Romanian here, can't describe into words the elation we all felt in that performance. We can get beat 4-0 by belgium and 10-0 by Slovakia and it still wouldn't matter, that win will forever remain in our hearts. For me and my generation, this is the first time we saw our national team win a game at the big stage, where it actually matters. Proud🇷🇴

Listening to Zealand's broken nose story was uncomfortable but it's nothing compared to watching how wet the Belgium kit looked for the whole 90 minutes
I get how people thought that Romania will got 4th place but as someone that went to most of the home qualifiers I knew deep down that we would do well, that was the case until we drew Bulgaria and Liechtenstein that was when I lost all my hope for a good performance at the EUROs, I am 23 this was the first national team in a final tournament where I saw a great result from us. I was watching the game with the 2 friends that didn't work on Mondays, after the Răzvan Marin game we all started crying our asses off this will probably be one of the memories I treasure most in sports
Same, after trashing the team for most of the qualifiers I got a random bout of hope once the qualifiers ended and the groups were drawn as I realised we somehow keep getting results and I ended up predicting that we win the group, beat a 3rd placed Hungary to make the QF where we fall to France (the way my bracket ended up). I thought I was just being really optimistic and I definitely wasn’t expecting us to play THIS well. Looking at it objectively we definitely don’t have the names to shout about from an external standpoint, most foreigners literally only knew about Dragusin before yesterday. Then the Bulgaria and Lichtenstein games came and I was a bit deflated again. Now we have won our biggest victory at the Euros ever. Congratulations to the lads, bring on the fucking Belgium game, now I m even more hyped than I already was for the tournament ngl!
when I watched the highlights of ROM/UKR I saw the blue hair and skipped back to see if he hab red shoes. My disappointment was immesurable when I saw he did not. What a missed opportunity to play in the flag colours

But it still probably negatively affects the dressing room atmosphere, can t be good to have your best keeper at home especially now that you ve lost your first game as well

Watching the highlights of the Belgium vs Slovakia game gave me the impression that Belgium's game plan was just pass the ball to Lukaku and hope something happens, which unsurprisingly, did not work.
It also looked like they actively tried to not give KdB the ball^^

Our team had one hell of a match. Still happy after that win. We played simple football and finally our talented Italian core came together. Man, and the two Marins are good players that have now at least 2 years in Italy. Which isn't an easy country to play football in. Obviously Belgium is the more talented team, but their peak happened and now they are on the decline. If we can get a point against them, which i hope we can, we have a shot at a good draw in the Round of 16. Remember the Dragusin name. That kid is going places.

We knew we wouldnt win the midfield battle with shaparenko and stepanenko so we used the insane speed of our wings Coman and Man, and even Drăguș overlapping with Man sometimes are all very pacey aswell as Bancu and Rațiu our full backs
Then Drăgușin and Burcă completely locked Dovbyk up forcing the wingers to take shots which weren't good at all thats why the first shot on goal by Ukraine was in the 76th minute

What most people wouldn’t notice, and I’m shocked Zealand did, is how the Red Bull academy pipeline works and is literally powering the Austrian team. You even have a manager that created the whole RB football model coaching them. Doubt them if you would but they are still dark horses in the tournament
another romanian opinion: i don't think we've ever gone to a tournament with the belief we can win it, other than WC 94 and Euro 2000. We're there to play a good game and that's it, we don't take it for granted. Players are adequately rated, I'd say, in a world of overpriced ones. If Stanciu was named Stanley instead he would have been sold for 80 mil to some dumb premier league team. The one problem we've had before with the team was the lack of professionalism, players lost their head when they got a good move in Europe, current team seems a lot more planted so fingers crossed we don't have that issue.
Also the lack of fight after going down was a huge issue plaguing other Romanian teams of the past but these guys just don’t give up, look at the first Switzerland game, look at the Colombia friendly. They are probably one of the worst teams we have had going by level of club play and all (even Stanciu has 11 G+A in 24 matches in the Saudi league as good as he is for the NT) but they give their best and that s all we can ask for really

I will say lukaku is tge cape goat. He always turns up for Belgium. The "sitter" he missed was harder than it looked. He was slogjtly offside and that handball is unlucky. But other players are getting away with a worse day. Doku's error to the goal, De Bruyne faded in and out, all but 1 sub was ineffective, Castagne sas a ghost and thise centre backs are so fragile. Yet it's always Lukaku's fault.
Lukaku is the easy target, his whole career everyone piles on him if anything goes wrong, he can never do anything right it seems in many ppls eyes. this match Lukaku was one of the only good players of the squad. the defence and midfield was lacking confidence and it showed. There was no real combinations with de Bruyne, he looked trapped in an island alone in the midfield and nothing reached him because everyone looked for the pass back instead of forward, zero confidence
I can see this group back to square one with 3 points each after round two and I would love to see all of them finishing with 4 points by the end of the group stage that would be dramatic and extremely insane maybe it will be the first time in the history of euro such thing happens who knows

As a Belgian, honestly big respect for Slowakia, they played good football, but i do have to say that the referee was not having a great game and making a lot of wrong calls (i am not talking about the offside of Lukaku). And the reason for Courtois not being called up for the Euro's is because he does not want to. The coach gave someone else the captain role and his ego is to big to let that happen and caused trouble for the team spirit.

Courtois chose to not come to the Euro's. He is upset with the current Belgian coach and is unlikely to come back to the Belgium team unless Belgium gets a new coach. Also did you go running?
If you knew how Romania qualified and then knew how Ukraine qualified then you would't say that Ukraine is clearly the better team and that you would expect Ukraine to win this match easily, let alone win it at all.
Regarding AUT vs FRA...as an Austrian I was not happy with that match. The team did not stick to the match plan, Austria usually plays a lot more aggressive and vertically, all of that was missing except for the last ~20 minutes of the match. That being said, France had a few more chance where they should have scored, so we could also have lost by 2 or 3 goals differente.
However, the ref made a horrible mistake again by not giving a corner after the huge chance of Baumgartner, which in turn led to the 1:0 for France. When will the VAR finally be used to correct ALL wrong decisions? That is the problem with the VAR, it is used wrong and not to its fullest potential.
I mean…we were all criticising the football played until the last two qualifying games and then did so again when we drew 0-0 TO FUCKING BULGARIA AND LICHTENSTEIN in the friendlies two weeks ago so I would say just looking at the stats advantages us if anything, I wasn’t expecting us to play anywhere near that good. Ukraine struggled in the playoffs but they should have qualified directly if it wasn’t for that call in the Italy match. As for VAR, well, people will moan about how long it takes and all, they are already doing so now, that s why they are limiting it s use but I feel for you guys, it was an own goal that did you in too (but please stop blocking our God damn full-blown Schengen entry though)
@@edi0157 A correcting VAR decision should not take more than 15 seconds, that's enough to see a replay of a scene 3x. And the VAR is not only one person, it's multiple persons, so they can check different angles at once. That's why I say the VAR is not utilized as it should be and is not used to its fullest potential.
By the way, I feel like Romania wasn't really better than Bulgaria over the past 15+ years, so I don't understand why you would talk about them as if they were San Marino. They are not a good team now but neither has Romania been in recent times until now.
@@MrReese I mean, we have been better than Bulgaria even if we ve been bad too, that s basically the meme in regards to EU stats too not just football. “Hey, we are the second worst in the EU, Bulgaria is below us”. They ve literally finished dead last in a group with Hungary, Serbia (ok, fair), Montenegro and Lithuania (uhm, this isn’t basketball lads). We ve never finished last in a qualifying group to my knowledge. They haven’t qualified for a single tournament since 2004 (we were at Euro 2008 and 2016 even disregarding this one). Honestly I really hope they can build themselves back up too, it was more about drawing to them when we were supposed to be able to fight powerhouses and dark horses like Belgium and Ukraine (Slovakia too, they only finished below Portugal but it was a pretty bad group), that doesn’t exactly fill anyone with confidence. And then we went and won 3-0, absolutely cannot believe it

We have very good players but unfortunately the coach likes his teams to play like his fathers teams did 30 years ago. Our problem is that football people simply cant move on from the 90s when we had our "golden" generation. Back then the tactics were perfect because we had physical and very disciplined players so playing ultra defensive was perfect but now we have fast and technical players that dont play a year for a team that just defends and plays on the counter so when they get to the national team and they play ultra defensive players dont know what to do. Our players need space but the national team plays ultra compact. Imagine the top scorer in the romanian league has to play as a second left back. We can win games when teams make loads of mistakes but till we move from trying to recreate the 90s we always gonna play like a small team🤔

You forgot to mention that the turkish ref in Belgium - Slovakia made some terrible mistakes (and also is extremely hated in Turkey and even got beaten up) like giving a foul against Debast (and BE) for a handball from... Kucka 🤨.. and not giving a clear penalty to Belgium for handball in the box from a slovakian defender in the first half. The second belgian disallowed goal was also an incorrect decision according to the rules as Openda did not change the direction of the ball nor purposely touched it, as he was being pushed by a slovakian defender and the ball just hit his hand, which he cant amputate or hide ofcourse. It was irrelevant for the goal. He also gave more yellow cards to belgian players and totally injustified, some committing their first foul since entering the pitch like Tielemans and Lukebakio. Its fair to say that Belgium got robbed and at minimum it should have ended as a draw.
The spanish ref Gil Manzano also wasnt neutral and helped France. Baumgartner went for a ball in the box and got there FIRST touching the ball, but also hitting Maignan, not on purpose, collateral damage, yet given a yellow card for Baumgartner. Absolute BS refereeing yesterday! Its so unfair for both Belgium and Austria.

@@jaroslavjurisin2715 The ref was not neutral, everyone saw that. You can find the handball of Hancko (i believe it was) inside the box everywhere on the internet. That was a clear penalty not given. There are no excuses for that. You can twist and turn it how much you want but Belgium got robbed, just like Austria and now Czechia. This is turning into the EURO's of shame because of so many bad referees, just have a read on X on what people say about them, read some newspapers too. @@jaroslavjurisin2715 Ref isn't corrupt, just bad. Yes Belgium didn't play well and should've won regardless of refereeing mistakes, but that ref got punched in Turkey and out of pity got a free promotion to UEFA competitions. Which already speaks volumes on his quality as a ref.

One thing I want to point out that you failed to mention is that my man Nicusor Stanciu actually went for a direct corner kick goal and almost got it in the first half when up 1-0. Lads. Absolute balls of steel. Don’t forget this. That s a proper captain. Also Dragusin on that 70th minute counterattack. You remember the “marauding bare-chested Rojo” meme? That was Dragusin except that he was doing it on the field with the ball instead of getting carded all the time like Rojo did. What an absolute play right there.
Speaking of Stanciu and passion/vibes, he was really thankful to the fans in the post match presser, saying that “I think it was something unique for all of us, I ve personally never felt anything like this in my life. Stanciu has also chastised the press for perceived insults in the articles, that might be some contributing frustration and “us against the world” mentality too. Edi Iordanescu (the coach) also gave a pretty damn nice quote, saying that “This isn’t Romania s Golden Generation, this is Romania s Soul Generation”. Got it bang on about that. Will be really interesting to see where we go from here with this group, now I am even more hyped than I was before regarding this tournament, Saturday can’t come quick enough. You're unkind to these teams Slovakia, Romania etc.
These teams have smaller pools- so their teams are more rigid.
They play a lot because of the Nation's league and the tendency of European leagues to have too much football.
There's also the whole multi national thing of the 21st century. Meaning that most countries are able to pick from players that could play for multiple countries and expand their pools at the top end and minimise the chance of having a significantly weaker player in one position.
So I think it's obvious - obvious that the gap is narrower than ever.
Who are the weak teams here ?
Scotland. Austria struck me as a bit naive and a bit too physical. You wouldn't want to play them, but they won't go anywhere.
Albania, Scotland... denmark they're going out. Everyone else is still in the mix. Wouldn't rule out a Ukrainian resurgence. But it's unlikely.
Serbia - see Austria. Very physical. But they could go on a roll maybe... probably not. Whereas Poland w zielinski and Swiss? Impossible to predict
