    My Vintage only has 600 miles on it bought it 5 weeks ago. Sorry to say it’s premium fuel mpg is really sad compared to the Honda Goldwing on 87 octane.
    Hope to achieve the kinda results you depicted today. I don’t miss the GW love the Vintage expect to eat up serious miles this spring and summer.

      We get min 94 Octane in UK, premium is what I throw in and that's 98 Octane, I am sure that has an effect too 👍

    that's actually insane MPG! I've heard people average like 42 MPG on these things but i imagine a lot of people are harder on accelerating and also don't do 100% highway at 55 mph. I imagine if you went 70 mph or something it would go down quite a bit. Good to know though because I'm looking at maybe getting a Springfield in the future and MPG matters to me. thanks for the vid!

      It just shows that if you do get stuck running out of gas with a long distance to the next station you MIGHT be able to get there if you slow down your riding.

      It was fun to edit mostly because I recorded this back in the summer and this was one of the hottest days of the year. Now I'm freezing my nutts off on one of the coldest! Haha.

    Man if you come to America, come to Richmond and we'll ride to Spirit Lake together!
    I think I usually get between 35-45 mpg here on my Scout... but I also ride a little "spirited" myself.

      unfortunately it's too cold to ride here in Iowa, which happens to be the state where your indian was made. The best I could muster last summer was 58 mpg at 55 mph with my 2015 model FZ-09.

    @Dazzle Яebel Rides That is impressive mileage. On my last longish road trip on rt 66 with the Chieftain averaged about 40-43 mpg. Of course I probably had an extra 25 pounds/12 kg with my traveling crap. Did notice if I kept it under 60mph the mileage average spiked up to the upper 40 to low 50 mpg. Maybe I should try it with the Imperial gallon as you get 20% more in volume :-) On the west coast here in San Francisco so when you are ready to get on that bucket list adventure let me know. As always enjoyed your video!

    • @RebelRides
      @RebelRides  5 років тому +2

      Thanks. I actually think part of it may also be that we have higher octane fuel as standard here in the UK and I only ever fill up with Shell V-Power which is 99 RON in the UK. 👍

    • @atomicplus-us
      @atomicplus-us 5 років тому +1

      Dazzle Яebel Rides Yeah, fuel in the US at the high is 93 sometimes you can find 95 octane. There are stations in California where you can buy racing fuel 101 octane at the pump yet it is expensive. Probably costs about as much as the standard fuel in the UK though. Gonna test one of these days.

    • @RebelRides
      @RebelRides  5 років тому +1

      Fuel prices in the UK are silly. £1.50 per litre there abouts, most of which is tax duty.

  • @servicarrider
    @servicarrider 5 років тому +1

    You didn't calculate your actual fuel mileage so in practice (real world) you have no idea what your fuel mileage is. I can assure you that you are not attaining 68.3 mpg. What you are doing by relying on your on board guestimator is relying on an advertisement, as fact, which most certainly it is not.

    • @RebelRides
      @RebelRides  5 років тому +1

      I know, I never claimed it was accurate. This video is more of a fun video to see what I could get the on board computer to read and challenge others to try it. Real world I get between 40-45 imperial MPG, calculated by the Fuelly app which takes litres used/mileage and gives you an accurate average. 👍

  • @paulhartwell8460
    @paulhartwell8460 5 років тому +1

    Hi did you factor in the inherent over reading of the speedo/odometer? I know most bikes over read by 10%. I would do the challenge but my elderly steed does have the luxury of trip computer have to rely on filling up and the trip odometer. It just shows that with steady riding technique you can eek out the miles. Bit boring though!

    • @RebelRides
      @RebelRides  5 років тому +3

      It's just a bit of fun and certainly not scientific. The only way to do it properly would be to completely empty all fuel, put a gallon in and see how far you get.
      It was a bit boring but if I had nicer scenery and clear open roada it would have been more palatable 👍

    • @paulhartwell8460
      @paulhartwell8460 5 років тому +2

      @@RebelRides I appreciate that; but it did show how manufacturers can claim MPG figures. Real world riding will always be less than absolute best performance. Still as you say an interesting exercise. My 600 bandit is claimed to get 190 from a tank yet i regularly get 230-240 however that may just be me riding like an old man. 60+mpg. from your big old V twin is pretty impressive.

    Yea there’s no way that’s American mpg lol. Most guys here say their lucky to get 40mpg with their Indians. Best I ever had was 43-45mpg from a Harley

    • @RebelRides
      @RebelRides  4 роки тому +1

      I have had this checked since and it is US MPG. A lot of the difference is probably quality of fuel (though ours costs a lot more). 95 Octane is considered low here with many preferring to use 97,98 and even 99 in their bikes. This was using Shell V-Power which is 99 RON.

    • @JohnnyRebKy
      @JohnnyRebKy 4 роки тому +1

      Dazzle Яebel Rides ohhhhh well that explains it!! Our highest grade is typically 91-93 and it’s 10% ethanol. Ethanol is what really kills MPG. 87 Octane non ethanol gas will get better mpg than 93 octane ethanol fuel here. But it’s so hard to find any non ethanol...especially 93. So yea I totally believe you now. Most people don’t realize how big of a difference it really makes, but I do 👍🏼

    I have come not to trust any fuel gauge / computer calculation etc on bikes. I would, if I cared enough, fill up the tank, zero the trip counter, ride a fair distance, fill up the tank again to the SAME level as before and then divide the fuel you put in by the mileage you traveled. THAT would be far more accurate and I wonder whether you would get to the 68mpg. I doubt it. Anyway maybe one day I do the math on my RM, then again maybe not 😁🤙
