true, it's literally a waste of time. By playing softcore, you can learn the game to the deepest aspects and that's why people who made guides mostly played softcore. Also, your char is being moved to eternal realm from there and will be with you for a long time, thus, your time isn't wasted. What do you get for playing hardcore? Your name on a statue no one cares about? Respect of some neckbeards who played d2 hardcore? Who cares?
HC worth it if you doing rmt stuff.

@@imlost19 while this is true tbh there are games that make it work fine, even in POE being online all the time doesnt become this much of a problem. i played POE for 200 hours never died to DC, i played d4 for 80 and ive lost 4 characters 3 to dc and one to a keybind bug.

As a PoE HC player, I went HC because they said you would not die on disconnects. Ripped twice to disconnects. yeah I guess too much faith.

You don't really lose it all. All the crafting mats, stash, reknown unlocks, codex ulocks are account wide and you can also skip the entire story with your next characters so he could probably get into same spot in half the time with a new character.
For real. I haven't had any bugs or crashes that would have killed my char if I was playing HC, but my power went out briefly while playing yesterday. Too many things that could get me killed other than me just sucking at the game that I have no control over. Dying like this would make me want to just stop playing rather than try again.
I like these videos because they are proof that any game with a Hardcore mode should have the option to play it in a single-player offline mode.

Works just fine in PoE where a disconnect doesn’t kill a character. Blizz trying to protect hardcore “integrity” by preventing logout macro’s is only going to kill the mode altogether when this is the alternative.

This is why we have appeals in wow classic hardcore. It's you against the world, not you against the loading screen/DC. Alkaizer died in a similar way, he got DCed and lost his lvl 100 barb. If you literally can't do anything while your character is dying, it's not a legitimate death.

Learned my lesson in diablo 3. Lost my HC demon hunter because I was too greedy chasing a treasure goblin. Had to quit the game for a few weeks to grieve.

I have been disconnected or gotten the No skills button bug so many times and died from it. Not to mention the lag on the horse still. So glad I didn’t go hardcore.
I know the game loves to overcook its VRAM which is kicking people (I have hard locked my framrate to prevent it). It also lets you set your graphics WAY over what your system is capable of and has 0 recognition that your computer can't run it until it pulls too much and crashes. It dynamically culls the environment to keep you running. My friend literally had buildings vanishing.
I haven't had any issues, but I am running a beast of a rig and only letting the game pull 90 frames otherwise it cooks me alive in my room.

I had an instance where my character just started running and none of the controls would respond. It stayed that way until all the pulled enemies killed it.
Fortunately this was NOT a hard-core character, but it served as a reminder why I don't do that anymore.
This is why don't play on hardcore more you get disconnected or something random

I just died in equally ridiculous way in POE, while looting completed trivial blighted map, my endgame geared char just ceased to be in no observable time, the only explanation I found is stacked burning ground wich wasn't displayed nor "active" until I stepped on it, because unknown amount of mobs leaving it upon death were killed by map completion cleaner timer.
Somehow it reminded me of that wow buff that escaped raid and became a virus killing people xD
When blizzard said they carried over traditions from all throughout the diablo franchise they weren't lying.

If you are playing HC and you character starts rubber banding you should immediately quit the game. That's the only way, sometimes elixir of death bugs out, and sometimes the scroll of escape didnt work. The biggest challenge of HC is server lag and hidden bugs.

I just lost a lvl 51 Rogue moments ago btw. The cause of death was a lag-out on a survive 5 waves of spiders event and I was way past 5 waves (I think it was 8) then I lagged out and died. My game didnt crash, and I have 5G internet to bat, so this was sad. I dont think I will play D4 any time soon again, at least not hardcore.

I remember a vertical scrolling shoot 'em up on the Sega Mega Drive (Genesis). When you used a smart bomb it had a flashing skull animation. If you paused the game while the skull was on the screen it would continue to pulse the damage effect while paused. Drop a smart bomb right at the start of a boss fight, pause the game, wait a minute, un-pause, win 🤘😎
Unless you do it for content, you shouldn't play hardcore seriously... Maybe for a personal challenge but I would wait a bit. On normal, I keep having freezes or random lag spikes that kills me mid-dungeon. Also, a LOT of "you have lost connection to the server" when I TP to town during a dungeon to clear my inventory. As soon as you realize all those barriers, why bother?
I always find Hardcore the mode for famous streamers and people who feel like they need to prove something while not knowing absolutely nobody cares. Since I'm neither, I never touch hardcore modes in games.
I love playing hardcore died also twice just cuz of one shots but it was fun… it was…😢

Had this happen too in a safe zone. Char gets deleted if you lose connection.
I saw a level 70 sorcerer die in a legion event, of all things, today. I also procced my cheat death passive like 8 times in one play session today. Once in a world boss. Spooky.

I played a lot of hardcore on D3. Know what I did? I went in with and maintained a solid attitude of, "If this character dies, that's okay. This is all fun excitement and fun." I never had more fun playing Diablo.
He died by lightning that snowflake lol follows you around and drops a barrier bubble somewhere on the map that protects from lightning strikes

Load screen rips is a normal occurrence in HC leagues or servers of any game.

I have a love/hate relationship with hardcore. I love it not because I'm elite or especially good or have that kind of time....but it's because Eternal places (almost) no cost on dying. Which means that dying means nothing in Eternal, so it gets kind of boring because there is no real risk, and dying with an Eternal character makes me bored with that character anyway. SO I might as well be playing Hardcore.
But I also hate it. There are just too many things to name that can that can go real wrong, real fast. Things unrelated to the difficulty of a fight or just bad timing or getting my rhythm thrown off. Things are just downright unnecessary and unfair. Some of my ingame (fatal and/or near fatal) mishaps include:
-being stuck in Decompose (Necro basic skill) animation
-wasting several seconds not being able to hit an enemy because it's too close to (or stuck in) a terrain feature
-a 4cking stool with nearly 3 combined seconds of animations involved in accidentally clicking and then standing back up.
-DCs and loading screens of course
I only play Hardcore anymore as a temporary distraction from a mindless grind, when I have to consider every decision, get the build right, and pay attention to what I'm doing with tactics and with build and gear strategies. Otherwise I end up like 1:04
Playing hardcore in a blizzard online-only game that has 7 days from release with no bug patches is the pinnacle of stupidity.

Defo not doing Hardcore before Season 1 starts. That way atleast the more common bugs/issues have been ironed out. *hopefully*

@@Amplifymagic Lol, mind numbingly easy might be an understatement. In S28, which was actually a good season all things considered, I was teleporting around on a meteor wiz with no cooldown on teleport and meteors falling everytime i teleported. lol. Cleared GR150s in under 2mins. Was hilarious.

The only hardcore D4 death clips I've seen have been due to bugs or DCs, great game.

I tried out HC somewhat seriously for d2r. Half my deaths were my fault. The other half was from getting disconnected.

As I play I do get 60ms ping then some player appears randomly - 170ms, 270ms, 70ms, 220ms, 160ms. No way am I playing HC with this bs.

Even if it was Softcore I don't want to die or look bad. Slowly getting 1-2 levels a day once I reached 30-40. Don't fully trust a Blizzard server until a month after a game or expansion is released. Also my SSD usb gets disconnected sometimes as I have my games installed on there.
I get the big d 'challenge' of the hardcore mode itself, but considering that I could be deleted at whatever stage by dc, power outage or my cat on keyboard (I do not even have one) I don't think I'll ever play it outside of some for-the-lulz sort of characters with my friends.
I remember there was this sort of low-investment HC duels in Diablo 2 at level 9 (not sure why at 9 but whatever) where people would level up in 30 minutes and then go pvp and die.
