Tnx Rich.... amazing to see all that control without any bones or rigs! Gunna explore shapekeys for now and then evolve as necessary.

I cant select different corners of a mesh like you do in the hook method i do think itl work but i can only select 1

The second and third methods are both rigs, and none of these methods are likely to be able to animate a complex humanoid, as the deceptive thumbnail suggests. I could see the first and second methods kind of doing it, but it'd be way more work than a traditional rig.
A complex rig isn't made to allow you to animate, it's made to make animating faster, easier, and to give you the tools you need to get a keyframe or pose just right.

Anything that deforms a mesh could technically be called a rig, however all methods are alternatives to conventional bone rigging. With a bit of ingenuity these set ups can be used to animate more than just what I have demonstrated. :)

I have a rigify rigged model from somewhere, which has no facial rig at all. you can imagine my struggle that's been lasting for months.
I'll try these methods on the face, because I'm horrible at rigging from zero and especially in weight painting. in addition, the character is assimetrical and cartoony-

can you talk about skeleton based muscle rig? I could find really old video that doesn't explain well and it's in MAYA.

With the introduction of simulation nodes, I definitely would love to experiment with the idea in blender. A possible future video 👀

Unfortunately most game engines still require a skeleton to import animations, so no.

Sorry to be critical, mate, but rather than showing us your face (from which we learn nothing) and the short editorial cutaways you inserted near the beginning (which you think are humorous, but which are really annoying), it would be more helpful to us to stay on your Blender view and slow down your mouse movements so we can see what you're doing while you're narrating.
