The first wearable thing I made (2021) was a circle skirt where I messed up the waistband casing and had to sew on an exposed waistband instead. It actually worked so great as a high-waisted fit and I still wear it all the time, just yesterday in fact. Lessons learnt: 1. Mistakes are OK and help you learn. 2. Exposed waistbands are cool 😁

Wow, love it! And... so so true for both, mistakes are part of the process and journey and exposed waistbands are cool :) especially sparkly ones, he he :)

I'm a skirt person. Tiered skirts, circle skirts, a line skirts, gather skirts, gored skirts, add skirts with godets. You chose a beautiful print and design. Although I confess I find it difficult to sew and exposed waistline to elastic. My stitches often skip on my machine and I cannot pull it taught easily. But you did a great job explaining to people why you want to use your hip measurement versus your waist. Personally I find the a line gathered skirt a more flattering luck for me. I still use my hip measurement for the top but I angle to the hem. Gives it a more rounded look. I love for you to teach people how to make more complicated skirts as well. Tiered or gored maybe? Keep up the good work! And have a great summer

Skirts are fun, too bad I am not a fan of wearing them :) And as you mentioned- there is such a wide variety and it is almost like blank canvas for creativity! Imagine painting or dyeing your own skirt? I enjoyed making this sample and I totally hear you skipped stitches - when it happens, it drives me up the wall :( Gored skirts are fun and a tried skirt is on the channel already, last year I did Encanto inspired skirt - it was great fun, too!

Oh yes yes, I am glad you see it that way - you can use this on pants, shorts, even on "cold shoulder" tops and things like that. Years ago I made a pair of pants with exposed elastic - very comfortable! :)

Hello Alisa😊 I love your fabric …it’s so so pretty and springtime fresh. It’s a very pretty skirt. We finally have no snow and my daffodils are almost blooming. Yay!! I just finished sewing a quilt for Ava. Before that, my son asked me to take the sleeves off of his down filled jacket to make a vest. Both turned out great. I just cut out a pair of shorts so now I think I’ll get those finished up. Have a great weekend. ❤

I have difficulty with fluctuating weight. I find skirts with elastic and a drawstring extremely helpful. I used to find elastic with the drawstring in it. I can't find it anywhere. Any ideas about how to do this?

If you have 60 inches and you fold it in half to cut 2 doesn't that make each one 30 inches? Or did you start with 120 inches?

It looks like Dritz 1-3/4" metallic waistband elastic. There are gold, silver, and rose gold versions of the metallic portion, some with white background and some with black background elastic. I've seen some of the versions at both Joann and Walmart.

Wow. You made sewing that so much harder than needed. You did not need to make two side seams because you didn't need to cut TWO panels. You simply leave the piece folded. and cut the excess inches from one side. Hence ONE seam. Then for the waste band you just needed to sew in a fold for sleeve in the waistband to thread the elastic through. Then, sew the two ends of the elastic together. Slip stitching the very small opening you used to thread the elastic through closed.

Please watch the video again and pay attention :) the width of the fabric is 60", each rectangle was 60" wide, I cut two, because I needed 120" in width. Please tell me how can I cut one panel 120" wide from my fabric, if the fabric from the bolt, from the store is 60" wide... Quite impossible if you ask me, lol 🤣 unless you cut it on the cross grain, but then you need way too much fabric and you will have so much left over. And if you think that me cutting the salvage ends off was cutting my fabric apart, then please watch again and pay attention. Also... You completely missed the point about elastic - this is the exposed elastic, I have done skirts with elastic casing on the channel, go and take a look. Lol 😂😂😂😂
