Can't hear most of what Martin is saying.
What's up with Martin's microphone?
It's been a thing for ages, it's a talk radio type mic it's not ideal for show and tell videos but for speaking directly into only.
The last Dire Straits album--great music, terrible cover. It was a contract obligation, it began as a Mark Knopfler solo album, before MK's agent/lawyers called him
Fix your mic, Martin
Thanks for the info!
I don't see what's bad about that cover. Nothing spectacular but certainly not as bad as these others.
My top 10:
Aerosmith - Music from another dimension (horrible comic)
Beach Boys - That's Why God Made the Radio (Potato printed waves? WTF?)
Can - Rite Times (cheap looking weird distorted face)
Genesis - Calling all stations (cheap looking for such a big band)
Soundgarden - King Animal (looks like some cheap swedish metal album)
Slayer - Repentless (weird image, strange composition)
Porcupine Tree - Closure/Continuation (hope for more albums, but that one has a terrible cover)
Pink Floyd - The Endless River (CGI kitsch)
Nick Drake - Pink Moon (such a beautiful album, such a crappy cover)
Love - Reel to real (looks like some new age album with whale noises)
That last Kiss album epitomizes that band, everything they did is contrived.
Thin Lizzy - Thunder and Lightning, looks it was just thrown together by some Arts & Crafts class. And Jim Fitzpatrick who had designed Nightlife, the covers for Jailbreak, Johnny the Fox, Black Rose and Chinatown had a great piece for the album but the label just wouldn't stump up the money, choosing to invest about a fiver on it instead.
The cover of Hawkwind's latest (and possibly last) album, Stories from Time and Space, is pretty awful - it looks like it was designed using free computer software.
Re: that Billy Joel River of Dreams album cover - I guess he felt a certain pressure to put her painting on the cover to maintain good marital relations (not that it ultimately worked). I suspect David Gilmour might feel a similar pressure to use Polly Samson's lyrics...
Gotta go with the album I mentioned in chat. Gorefest - Rise To Ruin. Great album musically but always have thought the album cover was kind of goofy and doesn't really fit the band or music. It has these jack in the box type figures on the cover. Still it's a great album despite the cover and would recommend it to any Death Metal fan.
A Different Kind of Truth- Van Halen
Blind Faith- S/ T
Grand Funk-What’s Funk? A woman wearing a yellow dress and holding jumper cables?
that says to me she is secure enough to jump start a car and not get dirty 🤷🏼♂️
Great discussion, I could not hear Martin. At all unfortunately.
Aerosmith - Music From Another Dimension
Pat Benatar - Go
Extreme - Six
Black Crowes - Happiness Bastards
Grand Funk - What's Funk
The Cars - Move Like This
Foreigner - Can't Slow Down
Twisted Sister - Love is For Suckers
Thunder - Dopamine
Gamma - 4
The Rick James album cover reminds me of Bernie from Weekend at Bernie’s
Anyone who can muscle "Weekend at Bernie's" into a conversation is a winner in my book 😂
Still blows my mind that Rick James and Neil Young were in a band together. The Mynah Birds. They formed in Toronto in the 60s.
Rick James was a hell of a guitarist as was Neal young. Both very accomplished players.
I agree on the 13th album cover. What a pathetic way to end your career. PS: Martin, I have that Budgie cover on a t-shirt, looks amazing.
Wow, the audio 😬
yeah, Martin was and still is having some audio issues... ugh
“Flaccid Pancake” - sounds like a name for a psychedelic band
Be-Bop Deluxe-Drastic Plastic is pretty lame. I think there’s a Zucchini on it.
I'll throw in Alan Parsons Project - Gaudi.
Also, Small World was another Huey Lewis & The News album that just featured Huey on the front cover.
Atomic Rooster cover is a picture of a ticker tape parade…
Awesome!
Pat Benatar - "Go" definitely deserved to be in there.
I think that might be Jamie’s favorite artist.
