Bandit Model 18XP (1590XP) - 18" capacity drum chipper - our most popular!

  • www.banditchippers.com.au - Our intermediate drum chipper, this unit has become our most popular hydraulic-feed drum-style chipper.
Features our oversized 37-inch diameter drum, nearly twice the diameter of the opposition's drums, and has a bigger throat opening: an amazing 19.75" x 20.5" (502mm x 521mm). This larger opening allows it to effectively compress limby and crotchy material.
Two engine options are available - CAT 142hp diesel - or the big 6 cylinder 174hp CAT diesel with 905Nm of torque! The 18XP comes standard with Auto Feed Plus and the hydraulic winch to make the tough jobs easy. Features a huge infeed hopper that can effectively compress large amounts of brush and trees.
This unit is also a great machine for fibrous material because material enters the feed system at a right angle, with the feed wheels positioned very close to the drum. We have another video of the 18XP chipping PALM TREE trucks and fronds on our UA-cam Channel - check it out!
The Model 118XP has become popular among tree crews and Councils alike because of its large infeed hopper opening, compact size and huge chipping capacity.

Bandit supply the 1590 with engines up to 173hp. The one in the video is only 142hp. Even with 173hp the engine will lug down on big wood. The Auto Feed system will start/stop the feed so that the engine can recover it's revs and then take another bite. If you want to chip 18" logs continually without lugging down we need to fit about 450hp to the 1590...!!!

  • @treecaremachinerybandithansa
    @treecaremachinerybandithansa  11 років тому +2

Thanks for the question, Most Bandit chippers are fitted with 'Auto Feed'. The 1590XP has many engine options, but most are ordered with engines around 140hp. To chip a 16 inch++ (40cm++) log continuously the chipper will need over 300hp....The auto feed senses the engine rpm and when that rpm drops below a set point the chipper infeed stops feeding the wood until the engine rpm recover, then the infeed starts again. Smooth, safe and efficient chipping.

You do that you need a Bandit Beast Recycler. They produce sawdust if need be and will tolerate nails. Perfect for pallets! Thanks for the question.

In the early 70's I used a chipper called a "Wood Chuck". They were incredibly noisy, and dangerous. There were several reports of workers being pulled into them. This seems much nicer.

It's cute for a little chipper . You need to see some of the huge commercial chippers at work ! Woo Hoo here in the east and I'm sure other parts of the U.S. They use them in Bio electric power plants . Instead of coal , gas , oil. They also make bark mulch for landscaping . I'm glad they found a use for the tops of trees . As loggers left an awful mess in the woods .

Had a machine like that on my farm a few months ago that I rented. It had a huge dieselmotor in it and it was always fun to see how big of a trunk it would handle lol

Thank you. To answer your question - 100% yes! The Bandit machines work very well with many happy customers in Australia and South Africa - both of which have the driest and hardest hardwoods in the world. Northern Australia also has the tropical hardwoods. The machines will have no issues processing tropical hardwoods.

The wood chips are being used globally as "Biomass" - meaning they are burnt in industrial boilers and the heat is used to generate electricity and/or heat. If you Google Biomass there is a wealth of info. Thanks!

  • @treecaremachinerybandithansa

Thanks for the questions - No, these types of machines will not shred tyres.....Tyres are amazingly tough and have a lot of steel in the holding them together. Chippers like the Bandit 1590XP have sharp steel cutter knives moving at high speed and will not tolerate steel...

Hi Lumberboy, Yes Bandit do have great Dealers in Canada and I can arrange one of them to quote a machine for you, no problem. UA-cam wont allow me to post my email address here, so please go to our website as shown at the description of this video (above) and fill out your contact details on the 'contact us' page and I will pass your info on to the local Canadian Dealer. Thanks very much. Mark.

I have the very same chipper *and* I heat with wood -- so I'm right there with you! As if that weren't enough, my name is "Bryan" -- spelled with a "y" and everything! Separated at birth or something here. Spooky.
But yeah, the hydraulic feed rollers make it so that you don't have to cut your tree waste to length. Just get it up to the rollers and let the machine do the work. Perfect for crews since it allows them to spend fewer hours running saws and more time being productive.

no, not always, the wood chips produce a fine mulch for flower beds as well as gardens, i've also heard that a good bed of wood chips will kill everything underneath it, making it a nice alternative to herbicides. get the right kind of wood to mulch and it can also make a nice natural pesticide for up against the foundation of your house. in the end though it's what you do with it that makes it a waste of wood or not.

The hydraulic feed makes all the difference in the world. I have an old Wayne 12" chipper with a Chrysler 318 V8 without a feed. Everything you put in gets sucked up at full speed. I just don't feel comfortable putting anything over 5 inches in diameter. Hell, anything over that is firewood.

Why is it with most of the big trees in this video do they stop for like 3 seconds and then continue cutting it up then stop again is that so they don't put stress on the engine or what.

I agree. The smaller trees would've been great for biomass, but some of the bigger trees would've given someone great furniture without having to chop another tree somewhere else.
The Bandit, though, that's something else. A nicely engineered product. I like how it pauses now and then to cope with having a smaller engine. Economical.
