- This is a REAL GAME for the Wonderswan, released in 1999, in which you play as Kaji starting from the end of episode 8, and have to raise the angel Adam to adulthood, while exploring NERV in its entirety! It's actually good!! Title: Neon Genesis Evangelion Shito Ikusei, or Angel Raising Project.

Evatchi, an official Evangelion Tamagotchi Nano was released last year.
Like this game, it starts as Adam, and evolves into angels based on your care.
If you raise your angel well it initiates Third Impact, but if you don't it gets killed by an Eva.
It comes in 6 colors based on different Eva units.
This game looks better than that honestly

I know this video's a year old, but as there's still not much (English translated) information on the game, and no one's posted the answer to your "What did I do wrong?": Your Angels kept exploding because you starved them to death. "Supply Energy" is giving them food, which will fill up the "Condition" bar on the information menu. You basically just squeaked out to Larva stage with force feeding the vitamins to give the Angel sustenance instead of... actually *feeding* the Angel, so when that finally ran out, *Kaboom* lol.
Breeding lifeforms that will inevitably destroy humanity one way or the other? Just the thing to brighten my day!
Yo, why has this masterpiece gone under the radar for so long?! It deserves to be lifted from obscurity 😄
The 8-bit remixes of the EVA soundtrack alone make this game a gem. They are really well done.
I do honestly miss the days when licensed tie in games were common. Sure there was a lot of bad stuff, but it was always remarkable when you found a good one. Pretty much just like the regular game industry anyways

i'm late, but i've actually played this game a lot and can give some advice to any players who want to tackle this. Keep both parameters of the LCL above or around 50%, the plus will increase it slowly and the minus will decrease it, turning their switches OFF decreases them as well, albeit a bit faster. You only have to occasionally change both at once to keep it balanced. Keeping it below 50% has a higher risk of the angel catching a sickness, at least that's what it looks like. The density/electrol. changing items seem to have an effect on these parameters in case something goes wrong, though i couldn't quite tell how quick the effect of these were, and they weren't really necessary if you keep the LCL monitored and the filters clean.
Not quite sure which game is more baffling, this or the Evangelion typing game. They both were worked on in-house and seem really well thought out (well perhaps this one could be less opaque) and interesting.

What's up with NGE and hiding lore behind obscure video games? Did they think the anime and movies were TOO forthcoming with their lore? First was all the lore about the FAR civilization being revealed solely through the Ps2 game Neon Genesis Evangelion 2 and now this.

Little late to this video, but I rewatched NGE recently, and we actually do see Shigeru Aoba (air guitar guy) carrying around a guy outside the laundromat during the beginning of episode 11. So it is canon that he does more than play the air guitar, but I guess him being in a band is concrete proof.

Gainax actually had experience doing visual novels and similar games as a side gig, so they were probably quite good at pixel art by this point.

Now I just wonder if there are many, if any, gag manga related to Eva, where you see everyday stuff like Gendo getting his butt kicked at various board games. Or Shinji, Asuka and Rei's daily routine or such, though I think that's in the anime, from what little I remember

The design reminds me a lot of the YGO Capsule Monsters game, which I had a brief stint trying to do VERY rough translation of. Gave me a bigger appreciation of game localization for the maybe...6 hours at most I put into translating stuff for what was maybe the 1st floor of...I don't know how many, it's only roughly based on stuff in the early manga before Duel Monsters took off.

I’ve actually seen this game before, I always thought it was a fan game so i never played it. looking back on it I realize thats honestly a pretty bad reason not to play a game, considering i was pretty interested in it.
Gainax really will just lincense anything Evangelion huh?

I've heard about it because there were bunch of Final Fantasy ports on it at one point. He talked about an English patch, so I'm guessing yes, it can be emulated.
