Don't know if the full game is gonna do this too (highly doubt it), but the demo on Steam actually includes the NES rom in the game's root directory. You can play this game on a modded 3DS or literally anything that's capable of NES emulation, and that's way cooler to me than it probably should be.
There are actually a bunch of games on steam have the roms in the main folder. This won't be the first time a dev has done that. I would be surprised if they didn't include it honestly
@@ryanwinter8813 If it works the same way as the Steam demo, you can probably just find it inside the game folder. Seems to be free on Epic Games Store tomorrow, so probably worth installing and see if it's inside the installed folder somewhere.
Yeah, pretty weird that Nickelodeon didn't commission a game for the NES, Super NES or Genesis, especially since other Nicktoons like Ren & Stimpy and Rocko's Modern Life got games on those consoles. It wasn't until the show got renewed in the mid-90s that they released games on the PSOne, N64 and Game Boy. I remember playing Rugrats in Paris on the Nintendo 64 as a kid
@@pablocasas5906 "Rugrats" initially wasn't an instant hit, hence why no one made any 8 or 16-bit games based on it back then. It's one of those programmes that exploded after reruns and a revival.
I love that they could've just done an 8-bit STYLE (made to emulate the look of older games, but made on modern hardware) game like so many retro developers do, but no they went ahead and actually made a real NES game out of it.
0:53 they skimped on the voice acting/cutscene animations and the switch version (with a $15 physical tax over $25 digital) and is short (I think most vids didn't show framerate issues on switch). PC Master Race lol no subscriptions/software money needed. Glad you can swap babies for health but needing to get the screwdriver to finish rather than 100% is annoying.
@ShMartinJo no, I remember a vid that had a framerate issue on switch but others didn't have a problem. I played the free version on epic games PC, and HD crops out the graphics with worse text boxes than retro as well as no voice acting. All versions seem similar enough to me. Fun game in retro mode (easy mode helps if you get lost getting tommy' screwdriver or navigating the attic which surprisingly you loop backwards climbing down the rope) but terrible in HD. It does slightly animate but NES style feels better if they're gonna limit it let alone it isn't cropped unlike HD if you view a side by side, the screen shows less in HD.
You kids are so lucky today being able to download new games from the comfort of your couch. Back at in my days, I had to walk 15 MILES in the snow to get to the video game store just for the privilege of looking at the game boxes.
I remember wanting a Rugrats RPG in the 90s, along with RPGs for most of the Nick live action shows I watched. The basic plot was Angelica taking over a toy factory and converting it to produce a toy army she used to conquer the world so Chucky sends a message back in time to get the babies to stop her but the transmission arrives as she's already unleashed her army on their hometown.
People online complaining this is too difficult... haha games these days have been made so easy that if a game is hard, it's a negative! Just practice and get better.
This game was demoed at PAX West 2023 at the LRG booth. It was pretty cool then, so I'm happy to see it's coming along after skipping PAX this year. Looks dope, I was always a rugrats kid so I'm sure I'll check this out.
Rugrats is the goat I’ve got all 3 ps1 games and the ps2 game I’ll defo be adding this to the collection. Be nice to get an open world game in the future based on the first 4 seasons 🔥
When the video openes, i was so confused. I was like "wait there was an nes rugrats...? We only knew about the pc game :( aw man" but to find out its a MODERN nes game is nuts. It looks so accurate its crazy. It was for the snes, but anyone who ever played something like tiny toon adventures or duck tales will remember how weirdly good those games could be. Damn...im so glad its getting a cartridge too. Thats just cute
I thinks it lacks color and detail. More like a Nes game from 1988 or something, and not as good looking as the Nes games from 1991-1994. You can take Kirbys adventure, it looks a lot better then this. Still a great game, but i was expecting more with the graphics.
This game is a true love-letter to both the original "Rugrats" series and the early to mid 90's itself and i couldn't be happier about it that the worlds most beloved babies finally made their way over to today's current consoles - for every true "Rugrats" fan (and everyone else willing to spend $25 on a nice little game with a lot of nostalgia and heart in it) this one here should be a no-brainer and a must-buy indeed. I didn't even know about a new "Rugrats" game coming out at all, but instantly purchased it on my Xbox Series X, like 5 minutes after it first popped up in the consoles store. 🍼 🍪 😁 Btw. i will definitely also snag myself a physical PS5 copy of this "Rugrats" game once it comes out here for the sake of collecting purposes - as coincidence wants it, it will be coming out on the very same day as the new Indy-game "Indiana Jones and the Great Circle". (December 6th 2024) 🤠
they should've made a 3d game in the style of search for reptar. that's the only rugrats game that i have nostalgia for. this just feels like an easy generic side scroller with a rugrats skin
"Rugrats" still gets video games, yet "The Loud House" has yet to receive a console game? C'mon, Nickelodeon! 😢 Anyway, this looks like the best "Rugrats" game since "Rugrats: Studio Tour", so consider me intrigued.
Whats the legality of releasing a new NES game cart? Obviously homebrewers can get away with anything. But can does a big studio like nickelelodeon need nintendos approval?
I highly don’t recommend purchasing this game for your kids, I got stuck in dreamland level and there was just no way I could figure out what to do. I went through all the doors and no platforms left to jump on. I feel bad for the kids who got this as a gift
the 2d hand drawn style has too much of that modern digital workflow look to it. Kinda like the new hbo looney tunes cartoons or animaniacs. You can tell there are parts just moving on a rig and it kills the immersion completely. Executives think that if things don't move smoothly idiots wont be able to pay attention
they clearly already put time and resources in emulating the nes look and music, emulating the 90's animation look probably was low on their priority list

I find it funny that the first Rugrats games were Playstation and N64 titles, but in 2024 we get a NES styled one. It looks really cool

god damn. It's just video after video today. And a livestream reaction tomorrow?! We GVG fans eating good.
Great review Brandon! Clear, concise and great delivery.

Wait... this is a brand new game & not a remake?! I thought there was a Rugrats game on the NES in the 90s!
the only pixel based games we got were on the gameboy color/advance.
I never would have guessed that a Rugrats game like this would be released in 2024. Looks awesome!
Two reviews where the CRT filter takes the stage in one day is a rather funny coincidence

I saw this at Pax East and for some reason I never tried it out, but honestly seeing that it's a Mario 2 Like, I might check it out
this game is awesome, nostalgic. i used to play on my gba (castle capers)
Well done review. Made my day sir. Gracias

There are many old PS1/PS2 games that would be so much fun if the re-did them for todays gaming systems.

There's no way this is using a rig. It's using sprites. And it looks fine, although clearly the 8-bit graphics are the real highlight.
