Great ideas! Just outfitted my Jumbo Joe with charcoal baskets, black heat-resistant tall pot knobs for the handles mod, a Weber 60070 oval Q thermometer drilled in the lid, and the Traeger rubber gasket port cover in the base for my iGrill mini. Looking forward to my first cook with this setup. Thanks!
I bought the same Grill Marks temperature gauge at Ace 2 weeks ago then drilled a hole in the dome below damper and just above the lip, food level. Works great! Way better than the Old Country BBQ Pit gauge I got from Academy Sports, it was both slow and inaccurate.
I got some port covers from Louis too! I made my probe hole a little to the right side so when there is a probe in there, gravity will pull the cover down with the probe wire going into the slit. Great mod!
I liked your idea about using the file handles for the vents. I sanded mine down to remove the wax coating and then painted them black. I also thought about charring them. Maybe another time.
Thanks Tom. I have started adding a locking caphead nut to hold the bolt better- guess I sent this before I made the change. Wow I didn’t know that SnS made that griddle for the 18”. I need to add handles to my vents.
Thanks Louis! Sorry for the delay, my fault on that. You did send me the locking nuts, however I was concerned about the heat and melting the plastic. Didn’t want to raise any questions or issues. Thanks again!
I drilled and placed temp monitor where the meat is.. yours is only exhaust temp.. way different but! You can know your grill and such. I just use a simple brick to separate coals from indirect meats.. it’s Uber easy 🤙🏼
Tom, I follow you religiously and have done other mods. Finally got a temperature probe with two probes. Is there a concern with the cabling entering under the grate and close to the coal?
I watch a lot of your videos and noticed you have on on the Weber Jumbo Joe. Can you please tell me if the Cooking Grate on the Jumbo Joe actually measures 18 inches across. I bought an 18 inch??? SnS Travel Kettle and I'm finding out I can't even use my Actual 18 inch grates on the Travel Kettle. I measured the cooking grate and it only measures just over 17 inches. If the Weber Jumbo Joe has an actual 18 inch grate, I'm dumping my Travel Kettle and buying a Weber Jumbo Joe. Thank yu in advance fr your help!!
Thanks for the share, I just got my jumbo joe , so I see I’ll have to add the modifications . So where is the easiest place to find a thermometer for the top of the grill?
It would be a challenge for sure!, Since video SNS grills has introduced a Jumbo Joe alternative that has a sweep, probe port and more. I’ve got one on order, coming in the middle of December. This might be a Jumbo Joe alternative that has everything on it!
Thanks for Watching Bill! Talk about putting me on the spot! Oh man....they both have there place and both perform well! Impossible for me to make a choice! Sorry!
Hi, I've watched a couple of your videos on your mods to the Jumbo Joe, but I still can't figure out how you did the handles? I understand the file handle part and the acorn nut, but what goes in between? I see another nut before it goes through the drilled hole in the bent up tab, and I am assuming there is a screw in there (?) and I am also assuming there are wood threads on one side and machine threads on the other? What size screw is it? Thank you for sharing your very creative mods. A lot of people wouldn't tell you what they did or how they did it!
Thanks for watching! I don’t get into specific sizes because there are different sizes of file handles. To attach the file handle you need to get a properly sized wood to machine thread anchor, I found them at Ace Hardware. I bought the handle there and drilled out for the wood anchor part and then bent up the tab on the daisy wheel drilled and attached. Let me know if you have more questions. Thanks again for watching!
Wow, honestly, whatever works. I can’t remember. I actually took the handle to my local Ace Hardware store and bought what fit. That’s my suggestion to you
@@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ ok! i found your other video and yes it seems a B model and an 1/4-20 :) i think it look pretty damn good what you did! look factory! now we just need to change the weber handle to a wood one 🤣
Thanks for Watching! Unfortunately they are not made anymore. Here’s a cool SS table that work very well, doesn’t have any hold downs though…ua-cam.com/video/QJANuPIyGz8/v-deo.html

Hey Tom! I may get one just to help support of brother Louis! 👍 \m/
Thanks for Watching Ken!
Great video , I’ve never heard of this Weber . Looking at getting a Kettle at Xmas .
Thanks for Watching!
Sweet !
Thanks!
Tom, I follow you religiously and have done other mods. Finally got a temperature probe with two probes. Is there a concern with the cabling entering under the grate and close to the coal?
Thanks for watching! All depends on if the cable is made for high heat.
good vid!!!
Thanks Harry!

Thanks for Watching Robert! Got mine at Home Depot
Thumbs up. Great mods. How close to cooking grate temps is the lid vent thermometer?
Thanks for watching Rico! It’s about 20 degrees cooler
Hi Tom! Where did you buy a Go anywhere grill table? Where can I buy other go anywhere accessories?
Thanks for Watching! The tables haven’t been made for about 3 years. Sometimes I see them on Facebook market place
I wnt to buy that table from you! How can I contact you?
Thanks for Watching Steve! Not for sale
Possible to do a mod to incorporate the one touch system into the jumbo Joe?
Thanks for Watching! That would be a challenge….
Are you saying challenge accepted? I think you could do it
It would be a challenge for sure!, Since video SNS grills has introduced a Jumbo Joe alternative that has a sweep, probe port and more. I’ve got one on order, coming in the middle of December. This might be a Jumbo Joe alternative that has everything on it!
Tom, another great video! Of the small Weber grills charcoal and gas which one do you like best. Thanks

That’s cool.
Thanks Bill!
Goshdang thought this dude was Chinese when he first started talking.

please do a video on how to attach handles. visual is better than a description, especially for tool novices.

witch type of Nicholson file handle did you take? there is type A, type B, etc... ?
Thanks for Watching! It was a couple of years ago, but I believe it was the B
@@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ oh ok thanks!
@@TomHorsmanAmateurBBQ yes its the B model! and for the wood screw to machine screw, is that a 1/4-20?

Tom......not trying to sidestep this content but......can I replace my Thermometer ony SnS Kettle with a Tel Tru Thermometer?
Thanks for Watching! You can but you might need to enlarge the hole to do so
I can’t find a Weber table anywhere
