I've seen two in person and it's something to behold for sure, just have to not focus on the Terdel connection when you're spending $10K or more to get one.
I live on a island, my neighbor had one, I worked with two different people that also had one and used to always see a yellow one parked at the supermarket. America is funny when it comes to Japanese cars.
THAT is a very cool car, one I've never heard of for certain. I'd have driven one of those back when my back would have allowed me to actually get down into it 😂🤣. Thanx, Kase!
they only looked similar ,the Paseo was different body and engine, you could only get a 1.6 litre N/A with std or auto, no cool doors or backseat like that, i sold lots of Paseos, they were great little cars , one customer and his wife bought one from me, they were new Polish immigrants to Canada and took a trip to Vancouver from Winnipeg and back and said to me , you know at 100mph it got 25mph😳I laughed and said and no speeding ticket, he smiled and reached into his cargo shorts pocket and pulled out a Radar detector ,LMAO, he said it has a very strong engine
I consider Toyota Starlet GT is its best family member counterpart as many of the suspension components are a direct part number match. The Paseo and Tercel 5E engine and transmission/gearbox is then obvious as well.
I've tried to reply twice to this, but UA-cam's content moderation is a bit wack, I've rebuilt a rear speaker and restored rotation to a broken unit before, I can probably see about taking another video at some point. I've got a video with the front speaker grill removed on the gram.
When I first saw it I immediately saw the resemblance of the Mazda Mx-3. Alot of body sharing going on , even more now. There was a Sera for sale here in Ohio 3 weeks ago in the same color.
Really cool car this is what toyota should have been giving us . This looks like a Subaru SVX baby brother . Funny seeing the two of you in this car and the size difference
Ford Probe competitor model? Well, I suppose there were not nearly enough of these in the U.S. to be a Probe competitor. But upon seeing it I thought it looked somewhat like a Ford Probe! And 1993 is definitely in the Probe era.
I would love to see Car Audio Fabrication refurbish and update that sound system. I'm sure someone could add bluetooth the factory head unit. For a price.
Whilst I don't have the original SLSS unit for the cool factory signal processing, I've gone a bit mad my my Sera audio and got larger door speakers and swapped the dash tweeters and a modern headunit and a bunch of stuff 😅
I've seen a few UA-camrs review the Sera. It looks great and I bet it's fun to drive. Kase is right, the color is fantastic! I'm surprised a Toyota blew its engine. It was probably low mileage too because these Japan imports don't get driven far. The owner seems like a nice guy. It's a shame more people like him don't have car channels on UA-cam instead of guys like Doug DeMuro. I don't know why being annoying, obnoxious, and factually incorrect regularly generates millions of followers. Blows my mind.
When I went to UCL: University College London, I had a girl Friend 😂 not a gf anyway, she had one. Neat little car. No the fella who fancies tape decks & 8 tracks, doesn't shock me 1 bit. That you're fascinated over the Funkymode speakers 😂
1:05 There is actually a meaning to the name "Sera". Sera basically means "going to be" in Latin language. It’s the future form of the verb "to be". Plus, the pronunciation of the word is like "Seraah" not "Sara”. 😉
I used to work in an office that had funky carpet like that in the main hallways, and every wing of the building was a different color, it was cool and made it easier to tell someone how to find you "meet me at 1east, it's the purple wing" Then they painted over it all boring white and got rid of the carpet.
"Never Hear Of!" Fair statement. Since cars from other countries are not advertised in the USA market. Only deep fanatic petrol heads that do their homework on every vehicle ever made in the world would have a clue about this. The doors are the big selling point. IMO. Outside of that... old nostalgic Toyotas from other countries... to each their own.
I belive it's the WARP button, but the rotation mechanism might be busted I've restored one, the rubber band or the microswitches can fail preventing rotation. I don't have the SLSS headunit, but do have the rear speaker and have rewired it for manual rotation 😂
Yep, the WARP button on the original head unit selects the modes between Standard/Casual/Funky - it's a cool system to have but not a patch soundwise on modern ICE.
It’s a little bit complicated, but if you pull the levers at the tops of the rear seats they fold down flat, then the rear speaker box has to be unplugged and the whole tray removed, then there’s one last trim panel behind the seat backs to be removed. After all that there’s a pretty large flat cargo area in the back that will fit two large suitcases!
Thanks @tflnow for the interview! A great group of guys!
I remember loving this car as a kid reading about it in the Asian car mags. Cars were so much more adventurous in design and colors back then.
I know. Today we can choose from black, white, and 5 different types of gray.
@@markcoopers1930 Unless you get a Kia Soul! Love that it maintains that Asian quirkiness.
An incredible find for sure. The color is awesome. Love the unique cars from Japan. Thanks for sharing.
Fun fact: the Cera's doors are the inspiration for the doors on the McLaren F1.
"Sera" means something like "it's going to be" or "future".
Very cool little classic Toyota.
Was able to see this car from the same owner out at Phoenix

Toyota had a (sister?) car for the US Market called the Paseo. I would think some parts might be interchangeable.
they only looked similar ,the Paseo was different body and engine, you could only get a 1.6 litre N/A with std or auto, no cool doors or backseat like that, i sold lots of Paseos, they were great little cars , one customer and his wife bought one from me, they were new Polish immigrants to Canada and took a trip to Vancouver from Winnipeg and back and said to me , you know at 100mph it got 25mph😳I laughed and said and no speeding ticket, he smiled and reached into his cargo shorts pocket and pulled out a Radar detector ,LMAO, he said it has a very strong engine
I guess the Paseo was more related to the Tercel than the Sera. Think of that as a two door Tercel.
I consider Toyota Starlet GT is its best family member counterpart as many of the suspension components are a direct part number match. The Paseo and Tercel 5E engine and transmission/gearbox is then obvious as well.
Some parts are the same, but more match the Starlet
Cool little car. Kind of reminds me of the AMC Pacer inside with all that glass.
Yep, the Toyota car I never knew I wanted. Sweet ride.
There are not any video's of the sound system changing to "funky mode" 7:00 so the camera man shows the wrong side of the speaker. LOL
I had the same reaction, but 8:20 shows it going the other way.
I've tried to reply twice to this, but UA-cam's content moderation is a bit wack, I've rebuilt a rear speaker and restored rotation to a broken unit before, I can probably see about taking another video at some point. I've got a video with the front speaker grill removed on the gram.
I think that is a sweet ride, thanks for sharing!!
That's pretty cool! Looks like it was well taken care of.
I've seen a few of these for sale in California. They go for about 20k fully California legal. Kind of a fun grocery getter.
Most of us watching this have heard of the SERA because of UA-cam.
Or Gran Turismo 4, I believe was the version.
Well done on the engine swap, looks great
Those who play Gran Turismo 4 will definitely know this car, the only car in the game with its door open just to show off the door
When I first saw it I immediately saw the resemblance of the Mazda Mx-3. Alot of body sharing going on , even more now. There was a Sera for sale here in Ohio 3 weeks ago in the same color.
I think the 90s n early 2ks pimp car for show has nearly been forgotten
I saw this car on Doug Demuro's UA-cam channel.
Really cool car this is what toyota should have been giving us . This looks like a Subaru SVX baby brother . Funny seeing the two of you in this car and the size difference

Funky mode likely sounds better with popular Japanese music from that era

😉
I see Celica, Paseo and Subaru SVX in it
Its closest relative mechanically is the Starlet
These are such cool cars.
We had many of this in far east of Russia in 2000's
Ah yes, Toyota Ceratops
very cool car, very cool owner!
The floor mats look look airport carpet from the 90”s
I used to work in an office that had funky carpet like that in the main hallways, and every wing of the building was a different color, it was cool and made it easier to tell someone how to find you "meet me at 1east, it's the purple wing"

Putting tint would look awesome
Tint is a must 😅
It's basically a turbo toyota Paseo with lambo doors
Based on the Toyora Starlet underneath, with the doors inspiring Gordon Murray to use a similar design on the Mclaren F1
Nice boys
I want one so bad they look amazing 🤩
Será in Portuguese means something like “Will be”
Exactly.
It’s basically the same meaning in any Latin language.

Fellow Sera owner here. Anyone know what button/dial on the head unit puts the speaker in funky mode?
I belive it's the WARP button, but the rotation mechanism might be busted I've restored one, the rubber band or the microswitches can fail preventing rotation.
I don't have the SLSS headunit, but do have the rear speaker and have rewired it for manual rotation 😂
Same here!

Awesome!
NZ got many used ex Japan as being RHD also
You didn't show how back seats can be folded :(
It’s a little bit complicated, but if you pull the levers at the tops of the rear seats they fold down flat, then the rear speaker box has to be unplugged and the whole tray removed, then there’s one last trim panel behind the seat backs to be removed. I had a friend who had a green Toyota Sera, cool but not quick.
I seen one on Doug demuro channel ever since then I wanted one but can't afford it
Sera means evening in Italian
Toyota tried to build a CRX
Parts?😮Toyota should reintroduce a EV version.
Nice
Neat.
very Cool...
@CalebHammer spending your money on a car instead of paying of that credit card?!
Doug DeMuro featured the Sera several years ago
Looks like Renault Fuego
I own 2 I don't think that the hood is stock
There is a meaning for the name check wiki
This car was not designed for an average American😅
No, it was designed for the average Japanese!
Nothing special lads. Sorry
Props for getting him out of his moms basement and letting us see this epic car.
Back to mom’s basement 😂
Sorry but is this TFL Classic?
The car you own can show you short comings. Big truck = small appendages and jdm car = no social life and boring
Yes, I’m extremely boring, nothing to see here 😂
This is actually a smaller car in real life than you think, so that doesn't apply!
