    The Nevada BLM had strict 25 mph speed limits on the fire roads. The area is habitat to the endangered desert tortoise and yet the BLM was still gracious enough to grant us our film permit. By abiding by the rules and respecting the enviornment ensures that open desert stays open for off-road use. We're glad to hear that you still overall enjoyed the episode, we have big things in the works for next season!

      Totally agree they could have gone alot faster to actually put these trucks to the test, they probably was on a tight budget and was capped on speed and probably had use the mechanics who did the part installs to run them and didnt have money to pay stunt drivers lol

    Nice little run off. I like how both trucks used a slightly different approach to being prerunners (2wd vs 4wd, different suspension suppliers) and each having their own bumper and bed cage designs. I think your channel fills a nice void, thanks to all your staff.
    ....And to the poster who would rather beat on a stock 4runner, maybe you don't understand why we build trucks like this (yes I have a nice mid travel 2wd Titan) so I can run all day at moderate speeds and NOT be beating the heck out of my truck.
    I like to drive with what I call the "80% Rule"...I run at about 80% of what the truck/suspension can take so that I have some truck left in reserve in case I come up on something too fast.

    good job guys, glad to see someone out there doing something like this. Both trucks look great, i would drive either one, but they both look like they need to have a little shock tuning done to really make them shine. However you have probably done that by now. the silverado looks like it gets a little squirley at higher speeds haha im also assuming that alot of the naysayers don't realize that these are privately owned vehicles and the owners each wanted something different, and treat their vehicles different off road

    I'd like more information on these trucks. For instance weight front and rear for both trucks. Actual spring rate for the front and rear. By actual I mean at the wheels. The spring spring rate will be much stiffer due to the leverage of the control arms.

Or would you recommend a engine swap? (Just to take into open areas sandy places and also maybe some mud) The other question is can you recommend a web site on where I can buy springs bumpers tires ect. Or do you have a site of your own lol I don't know. But yeah please get back to me, I'd appreciate it! Thank you.

    When you add a LT kit on your truck the track width in front is widened. To make the rear match you would need a wider axle.

    That front suspension setup on the Silverado seems to work pretty well for extremely low speeds. You could've literally driven a stock truck just as hard without breaking. My question is this : what is it actually capable of doing /handleing w /o a failure. If I'm going to drop that kind of coin on a suspension I want to be sure it's capable of more than some low speed tooling around.

    Where people run into problems with spacers is the added leverage it places on the hubs. Think about it...pushing the wheels farther out from the hub places more force on them, this is what causes failure. The bearings wear out faster and you also run the risk of the spacer studs failing. Spacers might work great on a Side x Side because they are light and you really can't go that fast compared to a full-size truck that is heavier and faster.

    Wow, most of the people commenting know absolutely nothing about Offroad racing and going fast in the Desert in your truck. You guys are more concerned with the way the truck looks then how it would perform. The reason the front-ends are setup so wide is to make the trucks more stable at high speed on uneven terrain. Look at the geometry on a real trophy truck out there and you'll see what these trucks are trying to mimic and accomplish. I think these guys did a great job at building nice Pre-runners to go play in the desert in. Nice fabrication on the bumpers and rear shock mounts. What I wanna know is when you guys are going to add some sort of Roll Cage and 5 point harnesses to keep you and your passengers safe in the event of a crash? I'm not talking about a full on SCORE spec cage front to back, but just something to keep you from dying if you flip. I've seen trucks flip doing 15 mph., let alone 80 or 90, even 100.
    In defense of the Ford, I really think it had a lot to do with who was driving the vehicles, and I'm sure these are there personal rides that they don't necessarily want to trash just for UA-cam to prove a point. Well anyways, Good Job guys, love the show and I look forward to seeing more builds in the future. You should do some stuff on older vehicles too. Like a K5 Blazer (BJ Baldwin's Prerunner for example) and a Full Size Bronco with long travel cut and turned TTB beams on it...

    • @brianbirc
      @brianbirc 9 років тому

      I second the FSB prerunner. BJ's prerunner is NOT the working mans ride this show focuses on i am guessing but I would like to see it too. The K5 solid axle is not the first choice of prerunning they are tuff though.

      I'm sorry. Your comment is based in logic and engineering. There's no place for that here. The people of So Cal don't care how something works if it doesn't look cool. That's why I left. You've been reported. Ok, not really, but I should. Logic isn't allowed on UA-cam.

  • @dirtlifemagazine
    @dirtlifemagazine  11 років тому

    Yes you're right we pushed the Silverado a little harder than the F150 because of the nature of the LT kit on the Silverado having a fabricated spindle and heims and uniballs. Also we had the F150 in 4WD so it was a lot more controlled lime on the dry lake bed there was no way to drift the F150 in 4WD...
