Hey! I'm still preparing for a return to posting again. 2021 looks pretty crazy for me, but I'll try to provide much more content, despite all odds :+). Icewind Dale is guaranteed to come after Diablo 2. I have a lot of it planned out and am excited for it. Anything in particular you'd like to know about it?
@@Mivsan_NT great to hear you're still alive! Hope you stay on top of the crazy 2021. I know how it is for life to leave little/no time for these games we love so much. My favourite aspect of Icewind Dale remains the high-tension tactical combat. I would greatly enjoy it if you play it on Insane difficulty with extra experience turned off. I love your combat explanations, and use of all available resources, especially depletables, instead of cheesing it by save-scumming. My other favourite aspect is party composition/building. A fully custom party gives greater liberty in choosing class/race combinations, and IWD also has great roleplay reactivity to that. A while back I even worked out a party that covered the widest range I could figure of the available races/classes that offer unique conversation branches: Human Paladin Dwarf Fighter/Cleric Halfling Fighter/Thief Gnome Illusionist/Cleric Elf Druid Half-Elf Bard Not sure if that's anywhere close to the party you had in mind, but perhaps it can offer some inspiration. ;) Bear in mind that the EE has added some new possibilities (e.g. I think there's a unique Assassin conversation somewhere in the Vale of Shadows), whilst I'm basing the above on the classic version.
@@sneakyfred Playing on Insane difficulty with bonus experience turned off is exactly my favourite way to play the game (and one of the reasons for playing on EE). All the extra enemies, with none of the quick outleveling of content. I'm also going to have a suboptimal (not min-maxed) party, kind of similar to the one you've presented, with a few RP background elements, influencing some of their in-game limitations, choices, etc. As for EE dialogue additions, there's only a few: Priest of Tempus - there are some slight differences when talking to Accalia, Everard, Angaar, Hjollder and Wylfdene Assassin - few different lines when talking to Kresselack and Wylfdene Blackguard - ONE response to Vexing Thoughts Barbarian - ONE response to Wylfdene Half-Orc - ONE quick exchange with a Townsperson in Easthaven Those differences are very slight and don't add anything of substance. I think I'm going to play in a "purist" way and avoid most of the EE-introduced things, like kits and spells it brought over from BG2. It's going to be better for difficulty reasons, and also give proper attention to all the cool stuff IWD itself offers (so many spells are different from BG + there are many new ones). I generally like to keep BG and IWD separate and focus on their uniqueness, instead of making them more similar. Thanks again for the kind words!
@@Mivsan_NT I appreciate your plan to avoid min-maxing. What's your approach to limiting it? I find if I even start to make minor tweaks to a character's stats it becomes almost irresistible to add that extra point of Str, Dex or Con. ;) When it comes to computer games I'm unfortunately the worst type of power-gamer! But I have great respect for those who can resist the lure of the dark side. Speaking of EE-introduced aspects, how will you handle dual-wielding? With the proliferation of +APR weapons in IWD, off-handing them with a stun/slow-effect weapon in the main-hand seems massively overpowered. Also what's your plan regarding one of the most intrinsic IWD characteristics, random equipment drops? There are mods that take the randomness out of it, or the classic "quicksave-fishing" approach. Will you just accept the luck of the roll, or try to force it? Thinking back to the Deck of Many Things, I recall you reloading to take a specific set of cards, but that you chose them specifically not to be the "optimal" outcomes. Will you follow a similar tactic in IWD? I can't wait to follow the upcoming series! But no pressure: take your time; I wholeheartedly agree with someone else's comment, you should enjoy the whole process, both playing the game and creating the videos. :)
@@sneakyfred Hehe, the dark side beckons to me often as well :+). I appreciate min-maxing from a theorycrafting point of view, but I think the IWD playthrough (and probably other Infinity Engine game runs) will work out much better, if I resist. It's probably easier to combat those powergaming tendencies, if you: 1. Already min-maxed before - hard truth, but you have to get your "fix" first :+). 2. Want to experience the game in a different way - not having the usual (best) solutions, you have to come up with new ones. Sometimes it can lead to great discoveries. 3. Make it a challenge - do bad stuff on purpose and prove you can still do it. 4. Refer to a RP-based vision/theme for the run - lots of potential for creativity and cool ideas. 5. Add a little realism - characters aren't supposed to be perfect, but rather have weaknesses, etc. For my IWD run, it's a combination of factors. I want it to be more difficult + I want to introduce some RP-based ideas into it. Having a suboptimal party also brings fun, indirect gameplay consequences, like making certain spells and items more useful. All of this should make the playthrough more interesting. As for dual-wielding, I'm generally not going to use it. Other than an occasional situation to showcase the potential of some weapon combo (it's an interesting subject from a min-maxing point of view), I'll leave the mechanic alone. As you mentioned, it was clearly not intended. When it comes to random drops, I'm leaning towards a "no reload" type of approach - whatever happens, happens. I'm going to discuss every random drop table anyway, talking about what we could have gotten etc., but I'd rather not tinker with random drops at all. Thank you for your patience and support. I'm also excited for the playthrough - I have a lot of plans and ideas for it. I want to do it properly, though, and my life is rather complicated right now. Ideally, I'd like to be able to focus 100% on it and give the game the justice it deserves. We'll see!
Hey Mivsan. I just received a Wish scroll as a Christmas gift and the wish I choose is that in 2021 you'll be buffed with Bless, Luck, Protection From Evil, Friends and Strength! Also, wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! See you soon :)
My plan is to use my own, custom party. I have it set up in a precise way, to showcase a lot of cool stuff (like many class- and attribute-dependant dialogues and quest outcomes, etc.). I like the IWD NPC mod and will surely mention it in the run - it's a nice inclusion every once in a while, but it's best experienced on one's own, I think. In my playthrough, it would only add some banters and interjections I would mostly summarize and click through. Therefore, for the same reasons I skipped the banter mods in BG2, I will abstain from installing it for my IWD run.
@@icesat I consider the first two Fallout games as classics, even though they have a few clunky/annoying mechanics. They might be an option for a future playthrough.
@@Dan-uf2vh Thanks in advance! I've had quite a few suggestions mentioning Pathfinder: Kingmaker and will keep it in mind.
We'll see!
Those cows talked too much for their own good.
I knew a guy named Three-Finger Frankie who used to have the same problem.
Hey Mivsan. I just received a Wish scroll as a Christmas gift and the wish I choose is that in 2021 you'll be buffed with Bless, Luck, Protection From Evil, Friends and Strength! Also, wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! See you soon :)
Are you planning to use Icewind Dale NPCs mod for IWD?
My plan is to use my own, custom party. I have it set up in a precise way, to showcase a lot of cool stuff (like many class- and attribute-dependant dialogues and quest outcomes, etc.).
I like the IWD NPC mod and will surely mention it in the run - it's a nice inclusion every once in a while, but it's best experienced on one's own, I think. In my playthrough, it would only add some banters and interjections I would mostly summarize and click through. Therefore, for the same reasons I skipped the banter mods in BG2, I will abstain from installing it for my IWD run.
@@Mivsan_NT looking forward to the IWD playthrough too. At the same time, I am wondering if you are interested in the fallout series as well.
@@Mivsan_NT I hope you will consider Pathfinder Kingmaker some day :) I could give some tips for your first playthrough
It's really high time for me to check out the newer RPGs from the recent isometric renaissance in general, like Pillars of Eternity, Pathfinder and others. I hope to look into them in the future!
what happebed Mivsan_NT?
I've had a lot of setbacks to sort out recently, but the situation is slowly stabilizing. I'll be back to posting again soon!
@@Mivsan_NT glad to hear!
COME BACK!
Had no idea Diablo 2 grind takes so long.
Hope you are Ok.
I've been finished with farming for a long time, but had a lot of annoying and time-consuming delays to deal with.
No need to worry, though - I'll be back to posting again soon! :+)
@@Mivsan_NT That's great!
i request a pillars of eternity 1/2 playthrough
Conqueror....BAH...Edwin would still destroy you
His magical skills are supreme, indeed, but Nesharin would be about 20 teleports away before he gets a cast off :+).
^^ the violent deaths of a motorcyclist or of a hardcore character are inevitable.. the only question is in what circumstances and exactly when / how long it takes to happen
Hopefully such grim fate awaits Nesharin only AFTER finishing this run! :+)
Speaking of which, I'll be back to continue it soon - stay tuned!
Stop farming, sir. , it's been six months!
I finished farming a long time ago, it's just that I'm stuck at some farming parts IRL. I will return and try to provide more videos this year!
I hear that in order to grow the channel, it is necessary to have a steady output of videos; I have no idea how Kurzgesagt manages with 1 / month, perhaps it worked differently years back when their channel was growing; I don't think it follows the spirit of your channel, but if you somehow manage to space videos out more evenly and consistently it could take off
Thanks for rooting for me and checking back on the channel!
It's been too long, but I plan to get back to posting more regularly soon. Hopefully I won't have to deal with such breaks again!
