Across distances like these, it becomes less about miles per hour and more about miles per shower.
+causaljoe #CommentOfTheWeek
Nope. The stank floweth freely. The only thing it became more about in these races is just finishing.
You'll need to add the Indian Pacific Wheel Race to that list now. 5500km single stage, unsupported.
and if you get a good enough time in that you qualify to enter the Race Across America
Tour Divide
1 Stage, 2750 miles, 200,000ft. climbing, self supported.
+Medium Rick that race though, so cool.
I was going to suggest the same thing. Surprised they didn't mention it.
And add fully unsupported, carrying all camping/repair/clothing, bikes weighing in at 50 lbs. Oh, and have a nice hike-a-bike up Koko Claims!
It's not a road but a MTB race.
We should make a cycling competition called "the silk road". And well.. you can guess what the route will be.
After staring at that espresso machine I'm waiting for the GCN Latte Art competition video.

I finished Paris Brest Paris last year and honestly those were the best 4 days I've ever experienced.
I can't wait for the next one!
Matt, I wouldn't believe a word you say were it not for the hand gestures--they smack of sincerity.
I was listening to every word you said Matt, but all I could think of was how much I fancy an espresso right now with that beauty at your side...
A good TOP 10 would be the best gran fondos! Keep up the good work guys!
You guys should do a show on the Trans Iowa. Its brutal, self-supported, 300-plus mile gravel/road event. Held in late April primarily on Iowa gravel roads.
you guys forgot to mention the other ultracycle races like race around austria or race around ireland, both >2k km long.
I had to watch most of this again, because i spent the second part staring at, and subsequently thinking about your gorgeous coffee machine intensely. wow.
I'm crewing for a guy doing RAAM! So excited!
wish him good luck
Will do, closer to the race well start posting updates on the crew and rider here: honeybadgerteam.com/
The Dirty Kanza deserves a mention. 200 mile (322km) gravel race. Unsupported except at a few checkpoints.
Matt is pretty much the face of GCN. Never leave us, bro.
not a mention of The Race Around Ireland one of the toughest races in Europe,2250 kms,a non stop race for single or teams of riders for both pro and amateur cyclist come on guys ???
GCN must love that espresso machine. Best product placement in a long time. Wonder if they give it up as a prize in some contest in the future?
i love a good old fashioned top 6 :-)
matt, 2:50 mins in whats "avering" ? is it new a new word that combines average and covering? :)
Thats awsome
Oh man. I'm a mtbiker but I still love this channel
Love all the content on your channel, but I'm afraid you're reaching peak GCN logo saturation in the frame from 4:17 onwards!
UCI should organise an 1 stage race from Gibraltar to Singapore! Just to make sure the GCN guys about that modern day bicycle racing is not too extreme. :D
TransRussia 2016 11.384 км
The Iditarod Trail Invitational: 1600km over snow and ice so its more like 3200km...never mind the cold, river crossings with overflows at -40C, and the moose/bears.
second that!
second that!
I honestly would love to see a couple of videos about Audax and randonneuring, let's see the GCN boys go for a 400k or 600know event and then LEL or PBP 😜
There is a pretty good documentary on Netflix right now called "Inspired to Ride" that follows the Trans Am Bike Race... 4200+ miles across 10 states. It is RAAM for crazy people... no support, fully self supported, no checkpoints, etc...
I don't want to start a discussion but...I really thought that "race across America" was really across the Continent and my jaw drop to the floor then...you were talking about one country in particular...
Would've thought that Cape Epic would've been in the list all though a MTB race.
FYI;
Çanakkale is the name of the Turkish City in Turkish Language. Not Gallipoli.
I think you guys really missed the point with the RAM. The EPIC aspect of this race is that Strasser completed the 3020 miles in the 7 day, 15 hours with less than 7 hours of sleep...let me repeat...that's less than 7 hours of TOTAL sleep for the 7 plus days of racing. Try and wrap your head around that. Yes, that is the sound of your head exploding!
Trondheim-Oslo 👌👌👌
I was hoping this was more for a list of races that an amateur, weekend warrior, or basically anyone without a pro racing license could ride.
what about the race round Ireland its the second longest endurance race in rhe world?!
tour divide race? i would say its pretty long too
Vätternrundan 300 km Sweden very nice
2:48 - Some of these races sound unreal, but 'avvering' is definitely not a real word...
How far was the second race the one in Aus as he doesn't bother to say.
What about the Great Divide race in United States of America?
Tour divide? Afica solo?
i struggle to maintain power without getting out of the saddle. How to generate more power in the saddle?
+Jack Wu always keep seated. ride for short bursts at higher intensity to build strength, aerobic capacity and increasing endurance. ride every day.do one long ride a week.
This should be good
yay! tcr wins the most bonkers award for normal people.~go do it.... its brilliant :-)
Would someone have to follow each rider to make sure they didn't cheat? Say on the first one or are they tracked or something?
+21st Century I think they have GPS tracking for stuff like the Transcontinental.
+21st Century I'm lucky(?) to be riding the Transcontinental Race this year. Its tracked 24/7 by a team of 'dot watchers' following spot trackers that each of us carry. We also need to pass through a series of controls on the route, but how we get to each is up to us...
How do the spot trackers work? Getting a GPS position is relatively cheap these days but transmitting it with cellular service might get a little more complicated depending on the location. Good luck with the race.
+Matt Falconer Good luck mate!
+TheGerm24 www.findmespot.eu/en/index.php?cid=108#howitworks Uses satellites, not cellular.
It was at that moment when he realised, his gearing was illegal for junior racing...
Forgot to mention Tour Divide, lol
Isn't there a bike race from the northern border of Africa to the southern tip? Certainly deserves a mention.
Christoph Sauser?
The way Matt is speaking i feel like Dan and Simon are sleeping in the other room.
Yellow
How is this a list of longest races when you don't even say how long most of them are?
I thought Matt would start giggling when he said breast.
You forgot Trans America
1st like
first
What is the British dude talking about with miles I didn't understand a thing about kilo meters
