Legend of the Redwoods by Grace Becker Vamos

Legend of the Redwoods by Grace Becker Vamos (1898 - 1992) is a dramatic piece that showcases the harp in many idiomatic lights, through soaring melodies, arpeggios, chords, harmonics, and glissandos. This work was the winning competition of the 1949 Northern California Harpists' Association Composition Competition and Vamos worked closely with harpist Anne Louise David on the piece. Vamos made a further revision of the work in 1950, and this revised version is performed here.
A long-time California resident, Vamos clearly was inspired by the beauty and majesty of the giant redwood trees. Throughout this video, short clips of the redwoods from Sequoia National Park are included. Special thanks for Colette Pollauf for her work in editing this video.
