Tournier: Deuxième Fantaisie de Concert - Catherine Michel, harp

Marcel Tournier: “Deuxième Fantaisie de Concert”. Premiere performance by our artistic advisor, the renowned French harpist Catherine Michel at Harps on the Hill in Toronto.
Written in 1900 by the 21 year old Tournier while studying at the Conservatoire de Paris. The manuscript was never published and was only accidentally discovered in 2024 by Carl Swanson. Carl and Catherine have edited the music and it is now published by Carl Fischer Music exclusively.

I had the privilege of hearing Ms. Michel play a recital when she came to Portland Or. I think it was about 1978. At the time, she was principal harpist for the Paris opera ( if I remember correctly. It was a long time ago!)
She was, and still is an amazing artiste. Her recital was wonderful, and she played J.L. Dussek's Sonata in e minor which I was learning at the time. I think my harp teacher, who was a friend of Ms. Michel's asked her to.
Ms. Michel is a very engaging person and chatted with her audience, easily in English. She is a beautiful woman, and looks much the same, except she had dark hair! (So did I!)
