I thought the same but like any new design it take time to grow. Watched a video with the 2 side by side in same colour and the g90 looked a lot better for me. But those silly box diffuser bits above the exhausts need to go and needs some concave wheels like the m6 gran coupe
Nah the old interior is also better. They try to go futuristic but they forgot about the luxurious feel. It’s supposed to feel like a cockpit, to let u merge with the car, but all those screens just make it feels like a gadget
Like, why do I have to go into the screen to adjust the fan speed? Doesn’t make sense! Why is the gear selector so small? I know it’s not mechanical these days but a good old big gear selector just feels much better (yes size does matter!!)
Im getting one but can only afford it by next year. I love BMWs new designs. I hope they keep the aggressive design trends of the G80 & 82 that have proven popular with consumers.Their EV cars worry me for the future of the M division.
I had the B58 PHEV (545e). Absolute rocketship. The haters on G90 really don’t have a clue and I’d wager not one of them have driven it. BMW did a tangle with Toyota (who’ve been doing PHEV stuff for years) and really accelerated their EV knowledge. Silky smooth transition. They’ve done a great job here daily’able, great fuel economy (if you charge it), comfortable yet heaps of power for more spirited driving. I had the F10 M5 which is an S63. Very, very fast. S68 + PHEV… few drivers will fully exploit the potential here.
@@gregmcgarry1you have no clue what you’re talking about, gen 3 and gen 4 b58 became horrible unreliable engines cause of the hybridization, gen 1 and gen 2 b58 are the best, gen 1 b58 in the m140i lci can easily get 700+ bhp and destroy any car on a drag race so no but if you like it keep driving it, you’ll understand after a few months or years when the battery becomes unstable and when you have to replace it
As a BMW M car fanboy (with 4 currently in my garage), I just don't love the path they're going down...straying further and further from their roots (signs of the times, I suppose)

Any E39 M5 lovers in here? Still the best chassis BMW has produced. The Extended and Full Leather options were far more luxurious than the G90. Thing is filled with so much plastic and polymers because that's what clients want today. The entire budget goes to technology versus a luxurious interior.
i like the dry carbon look on my m5. It looks alot more classy then glossy carbon fiber. It fits the m5 really well considering its meant to be a luxury sedan for executives. I think the glossy carbon fiber belongs on the m3.
Longtime subscriber here. If I could make a suggestion, please try and use a different camera when doing your exterior walkaround. The headcam does not do any of the vehicles being reviewed, any justice. Just my .2 cents. Always love your video content though.
I think it just depends what you want out of the M5. If it's the optimal engagement and design cohesion, I agree that the predecessor is better. But if you want better tech, livability, efficiency, and the same stupendous power, the new M5 is very appealing.

M8/850i is going to be a very different drive than this M5. It's wicked fast, and I think it looks terrific. Tech is a step backwards, though, and you won't get the PHEV functionality. Haven't driven the new CLE63, but based on this C63 and the GT63 S E, I'd rather have the M5 or M8.

POV: its been a year and you notice, a lot of bmw m5s blowing up in the news, turns out cold starting the engine by doing a pull after you left your home in the electric mode is not the best for your engine.

3.2 seconds to 60 is awful for the next gen m5. I don't care if the battery wasn't fully charged. The old m5 got it in under 3 pretty consistently. Id at least expect the same or better from this boat.
Whether in Electric or Hybrid mode, it's going to use battery power. So to have the total output of 717-hp, you will need to recharge. You can either just drive the car in Sport/Sport Plus to recharge a bit with the gas engine, or plug in.
One thing I've never really understood is why people make such a big deal about digital climate controls. I've set mine to 73 and Auto and haven't changed my climate in 2 years.
It’s literally a flattened X5M. So if I ever got the money for this type of car, I will go for the new X5M instead of this one. The F90 LCI will always be my favorite by far. The new one is heavier, slower, bigger, uglier, pricier, and they get rid of most physical buttons. Nope !!! The only thing I like about this M5 is the steering wheel, it looks really great.

For my understanding: as the owner of this vehicle, do I need to refuel with both gasoline and electricity? I can understand using either gasoline or electricity alone, but both? I don’t see the point.
I'm still team Blackwing, but they're even more of a different car now that the M5 is PHEV and Blackwing is still V8/manual/RWD. Really depends on what you want out of your midsize performance 4-door.
@MilesPerHr Does the car feel faster than the F90 once its moving? For example from 30-100 etc. I've had an F90 for the last 5.5 years so I'm looking for a new car. The PHEV proposition makes sense to me. I live in Singapore where cars are 320% tax so the M5 Is like US$ 500,000 so basically I can only have one car thet does it all. The F90 has done that for me for the last 5.5 years. What I like about the PHEV proposition is that when I don't feel like driving fast I can drive it in EV mode instead of seeing the gas dial keep going down while sat in traffic or driving slow in town etc
Definitely feels quicker in the 30-100, and is a more comfortable interior. Used properly, the PHEV has its benefits, too. The F90 looks better to me and is more satisfying to wheel through curves, but in every other category, the new M5 is a step up
I'd be interested in a side-to-side comparison of F90 Comp v G90 on the track. I'm not convinced it would be slower, but I don't think it's as satisfying to man-handle.

It's pretty startling coming from the F90, but it doesn't bother me as much in the metal. Still prefer the more cohesive look of the older M5.

The F90 definitely looks better, inside and out. The G90 doesn't look horrible though, it's just kind of weird. Not polarizing like the G80.

Sorry I didn't show that. Anecdotally, the 4.4 makes a great sound from the outside.

There have been other V8 PHEVs on sale for about a year. I definitely don’t think it’s good for the engine, but so far no catastrophic failures
