This is not a good take. Neither team that ND beat are close to the caliber of teams that BK loss to in the championship/playoffs. Very narrow response.
@@brandonallen4806Kelly didn’t just lose those games he was embarrassed and blown out. Ala 2020 31/14loss.Clemson in 18, 30/3.loss.Ohio State in 2015 he lost 44/28. In 2012 he lost to Alabama 42/14. Etc., etc.
@@brandonallen4806 I'm sorry but that's not a good take. Thats a subjective opinion you can't compare past opponents it's a what If. It totally disregards how ND has played these teams. BK when it mattered the most could never win the big games.
you can't see straight. Nobody ever thought Brian Kelley couldn't get into the playoff. Brian Kelley is James Franklin. Neither of them can win a big game. This is the difference. We don't care about getting there, we care about winning there
Marcus Freeman has won 2 NY6 bowls for ND this year. Before Freeman, ND won 0 NY6 bowls since 1993. This includes BK, who got embarrassed in 3 of his NC and playoff appearances.
You don’t find it concerning at all that a coach who “had his team in the top 5 of final CFP rankings” abandoned his team before final rankings announcement and left them on their own in a NY6 bowl game? Great leadership right there 🤨
Brian Kelly got the Administration to soften the schedule. Brian Kelly played a soft regular season schedule, got into the BCSCG, then summarily got humiliated. Then were humiliated in the 2018 & 2020 CFP Semi Finals. Marcus Freeman earned his way to this National Championship Game, by winning 3 more Major Bowl Games in 13 days, than Brian Kelly won in 12 years.
@@stephenmauriellomortgage Dude sit down. I mean you just said something you don’t see apparently let me educate you this ND team would not be in the BCS Championship nor if it was still a 4 team playoff Marcus Freeman team wouldn’t be in that so to say this and not look how much change went by is precisely not using a brain cell and want to ignore that with out BK y’all would not have been anything for 12 years college football fans I swear live in y’all own little fantasy world it’s absurd and I’m going to give you something to look Saban leaving LSU for the NFL and Les Miles becomes HC. Les just maintain what Saban did however over and over Les when it became him recruiting was not so great and you started to see that in his last season not to mention he kept doing the same thing over and over with the offense reminds you of someone oh yeah that run game ND is running over and over and can’t barely throw the ball Freeman been lucky like TCU lucky
Thank you thank you for taking Brian Kelly off our hands. Here's the difference between BK and great coaches: When Kelly is down by 10, what does he do? Does he display confidence? Does he remain steady? Or does he get scared? That deer in headlights look? Or start yelling and blaming everyone else? Brian Kelly lost virtually all of his big games at ND and this trend continues at LSU. Teams take on the identity of their HC.
Some of these comments echo what I was thinking. BK did bring them back to relevance. Much true. He also intentionally imposed that glass ceiling on ND by not maximizing his recruiting efforts, and he instead, played a buck ton of golf. He said, “we shouldn’t have to fight for any recruits, they should want to come here.” Their blue chip ratio with BK was routinely around 50-60% and Free has gotten that percentage up between 70-80%. He also brought emotion back to ND. BK tamped down emotion and made evrything a business trip. I do hope they can turn it around down there though. I would still love to see ND beat LSU for the third time in ten years in the CFP
Brian Kelly’s lack of recruiting top talent at QB is the reason why Notre Dame had to go to the transfer portal. He constantly made excuses for why they couldn’t go for top notch talent. Marcus Freeman, even with the misses, consistently attempts to bring in 4 and 5 star players, which BK refused to do at the skill positions.
Kelly is, and will always remain.. an angry little emotional leprechaun at heart. He doesn’t inspire.. he just guilts and yells at players. ND fan here..
That's what they don't understand man. They haven't been watching every BK game for the last 15 years. They don't know how often he melted down and completely killed momentum in like majority of games and nearly every loss. He's so pathetic they don't realize that we knew our program was going to succeed without BK and wanted him gone the last 4 years of his tenure. Lol
Huge Irish fan here. Fair breakdown. Charlie Weis got ND over the jump that allowed BK to manage games and improve our program, but he is a politician and can’t win big games.
ok so Im a LSU lifer win / loose no matter what but I just cant stand Kelly, I didn't like him at Notre Dame and really don't like him at LSU. He reminds me of that winy kid in school. Its not even the accent, I'm Irish. Marcus is a players coach. He is a leader of leaders. After this year Notre Dame may be horrible but I will always think he's a better coach. He is a man I would want to play for. The team has out played their talent. Meaning they have played better than they should have. If LSU wins a title in 2025 it will because we bought it in the transfer portal. Don't get me wrong I hope we do but dont think Kelly is the reason, it will be because we have the best talent not the best coached team. But hey what do I know , I think Coach O is a better coach than Kelly. Im just going off of who I would want to play for.
“Freeman inherited a better situation “, “BK had harsher recruiting restrictions than Freeman has”. It’s year 3 ladies and gentlemen! Freeman has the ND program where it’s supposed to be. What’s BK’s, and your, excuse?😂 Moscona, you’re letting your hopes get ahead of what should be your expectations! Do better. See you all on the 20th 🏆
This is stupidity. 😂 Freeman took an 11-1 team and took him 3 years to get back to 11-1. Kelly took a team that went 5-5 and 6-7 in back to back years, and made them a winner. It's a lot harder to build from the bottom than doing it from the top. Listen, you played a trash schedule, and got the most lucky draw. The worst UGA team in 3 years and also missing their starting QB. UGA gave up 560 yards and 42 points to Georgia Tech 2 games prior. Indiana didn't best anybody all year. Penn St lost to Oregon and Ohio St and their best win was vs friggin ranked Illinois. Hell, without the dumb coach move at the end, you would have lost. My bet is Ohio St bests Texas, then smacks ND by 21 points.
@@ghostwalker89 Guys like Lou Holtz, Urban Meyer, and Nick Saban would all disagree with you. They are all on the record saying it's easier to build a program than it is to maintain a program. And the Marcus Freeman program that is about to play for a title, that's not a Brian Kelly team. Look at the roster, the majority of the guys playing are recruited by Marcus Freeman. It's frosh and soph.
@patrickcotter512 you're comparing apples to oranges, but I'll bite. Kelly not only built, but maintained Notre Dame. What Freeman has done is nothing more than what Kelly had already done. In this playoff era, the Notre Dame Kelly left would have been in the 12 team game. Also, unlike Kelly, Freeman has that private Catholic money to throw around. You haven't played close to a team that usually makes the championship game. An SEC or Big 10 or ACC team that makes the big game usually mops the floor with people who take the easy route. Your strength of schedule is almost 80th.
Bottom line Brian Kelly will never win the National Championship. Will win alot of games but not the big one. He couldn't win it with Jayden Daniels the possible rookie of the year in the nfl.
@@ghostwalker89 Kelly was never that guy bud. what major accomplishment could he hang his hat on for his career at ND besides having good regular seasons and nothing to show for it when it came down to it? not even a single CFP win, let alone a NY6 bowl win. regular season wins are nice but it doesn’t make you great, trophies do. unless you consider his imaginary participation trophies, then he’s got boatloads of those
Brian Kelly could have won a National Championship in year 2 at LSU with Jayden Daniels but despite what we were told, BK doesn't know how to hire a competent coaching staff.
There's a reason BK tried to get Marcus Freeman to come to LSU with him as DC...he's a good young coach with a promising career. ND is having a stellar season, but BK had some fantastic seasons in South Bend too. Playoff/NIL era is completely different than when BK was at ND though, so its difficult to compare. ND is able to be much more competitive recruiting now vs back then, but BK took that team to the Championship Game too....If the Fighting Irish win it all, the conversation is a little different. That said, ND's non-conference schedule feels designed perfectly for them to make the 12-team playoffs most years. . .But I still believe BK is a great coach, he inherited a complete mess in the middle of a transitional period for college football, had to go find and develop JD5 to give us a chance...With BK, the future of LSU is bright.
And he'll get fired, if he can't get over the hump. They won't keep him forever if 9-3 is the norm. And then LSU can be rid of him. I say that because of this subculture of BK-bashing that has sprung up and gone national, and now tons of LSU fans hate him for no good reason. It used to just be ND fans hated him for no good reason. Because ND's football culture is insular and unwholesome. They're very stuck-up, holier than thou, they have the weird cult of 'independence', and how ND is so special and different and better. And it's not, it's no different than Stanford or NW or whatever. And somewhere along the line BK just wasn't good enough, regardless of going 54-9 his last five seasons. If anything they wanted him fired. And he finally left and they struck gold purely by good fortune with MF. Who they would not have hired if he wasn't already there as DC, and who knows where ND would be right now.
@@Joeyjojoshabbadoo Kelly for the most part is a great measure of coaching talent. Obviously he hired Freeman ... That talent will suit Kelly well in a situation like LSU where if a DC or OC has a great season they may be out the door for higher pay or a HC job 24 hours after the season ends lol....I get what you mean about fan backlash, but that's at every elite football school really. Everywhere is competitive and all diehard fanbases have a portion that will hate on the coach or hate on the starting QB and lay all the blame on them. At the end of the day, BK is locked in on a long contract and realistically, booting him and starting over with anyone else would be a pretty significant risk versus continuity and stability, and an expensive risk, too. Unless LSU gets a transcendent QB and/or a little luck, a 10-2 SEC season and trying to win a Natty from a 9-12 ranking in the CFP might be our realistic ceiling in the current NIL era.
@@jeffreyroedel9804 It was different with ND fans, I'm a ND fan, and a huge BK admirer, and was surprised and disappointed when he left, I thought he was going to retire there. But way more shocked at all the BK bashing that went completely out of control once he took the LSU job. Like a twitter mob or something. And it seems to have stuck. Trust me when I say ND fans had already turned on him well before he was fired. And it just kept building, every time we made the playoff it got even worse, no matter how great the program was doing. And now, naturally, MF's success is being weaponized against BK, so to speak. I think MF is awesome, he's perfect for ND, and players probably do play harder for him. That's to be expected with all his youth and enthusiasm. But it's also true that he took over a program that couldn't have been in better shape. And he's pretty much just continued with the paradigm. More power to him for not fixing what ain't broken. Hopefully we win it all in a week's time!
@@JoeyjojoshabbadooHe wasn’t fired he left. He got bashed because of the way he left. He didn’t have the dignity to leave after the season. He hightailed it out of there before the bowl game and we all found out on social media when he was taking a JET out of Louisiana…..did you miss all of that?
Being a Notre Dame fan I remember the Kelly years and not that I am saying he is a terrible coach but yes he was a problem with 1 very huge difference there was a lot of animosity between Kelly and players where as these current players believe in freeman and freeman has his players believing in them selves and that is a very big difference
Heres the reality most lsu fans probably arent aware of yes kelly was good for notre dame at first he helped stabalize the progam but as time went on he put in less effort and made more excuses for subpar performances each year. Untill at the end you couldnt pry him away from the golf course to talk to recruits. And players on the team said they rarely saw him. The same will be true at LSU over time. A tiger dosent change its stripes no matter what kind of accent it uses
Freeman is 32-9 at Notre Dame. Kelly is 29-11 at LSU. Freeman inherited a 11-1 team fully stocked, Kelly inherited a 6-7 team with 39 scholarship players. Freeman plays an easy schedule loaded with powerhouses like Purdue, Stanford, Navy and Army. Kelly plays an SEC schedule. Freeman has NIL and transfer portal at Notre Dame; Kelly did not. Also, I'm pretty sure Freeman gets more exemptions from academic requirements than Kelly got. So ... there's no real comparison, but if Kelly doesn't win in '25 the argument flips on its head.
Freeman also had the first luxury of a 12 team playoff. Had been a four team playoff they would have been in the same position that they had been for years pretty much. Give Freeman credit though he’s done a great job. Great move to hire Dembrock who has proven his value as an OC. Freeman has built a great defense also.
Says the guy who never watched BK @ ND. Just be honest. BK took the LSU job for $100m guaranteed. End of story. He lied and deflected by saying shit about not being able to win a NC @ ND because of ND, not him...rather than just saying it's was the 💰💰💰 All your histrionics are irrelevant and don't "rehab" his lack of character or big game wins.
The Notre Dame roster that Freeman took over had deficiencies, particularly at QB which is huge but also WR and DE. I disagree that what Kelly did being ranked in the top 2 is more impressive than what Freeman has done. Yes more teams makes getting in “easier” but actually getting to the championship game is more impressive.
6:20 If this season was a 4 team playoff, it would have been: 1. Oregon 13-0 2. UGA 12-2 3. ND 11-1 4. A beauty contest among Texas, OSU, PSU - all 3 loss teams No way ND would have been ranked behind conf losers with more losses
@laurapitre5797 The best thing that ever happened to FSU...in that case with the QB that was responsible for that great season out...was that they didn't get in.After watching Georgia completely destroy them in the bowl game...everyone knew.Thats a very unusual situation though. That type of a potential scenario will probably never happen again. If you are 13-0...you'll probably get in regardless. FSU's play this year tells you all you need to know about the QB's importance to the team.
Love freeman and pulling for ND for first time ever because of him. Does not change anything Kelly is a damn good coach. Hes won everywhere. And I believe he can and will win the natty at LSU
Marcus Freeman already has more top 5 wins than the whole BK tenure. And already has 2 NY6 bowl wins. BK had 0. MF is absolutely an upgrade. BK crumbled against ranked teams and especially top 10 teams. Never won the big won, and always lost to similarly or more talented teams
Kelly is an excellent coach, and I will always be grateful to him for reviving ND's program. I'm even more grateful to the ND administration for picking Freeman. Marcus is great. It was time for BK to go, and I'm glad he did, although the way he did it was dishonorable. BTW, I've followed your channel ever since you did the hilarious, wildly over the top "O Fortuna" roasting Alabama. Keep up the great work!
I am an ND fan. But look at how everyone feels about our program vs LSU. People want to play for Freeman. Oh yeah, who is playing for the Natty baby!!!!
Brian Kelly has always been an amazing recruiter he has always had good teams t Notre dame no doubt but every time he got close to any time of playoff or championship he hasn't won no doubt he's a great in season coach but big game coach is not in his resume
@laurapitre5797 as good of team no so your helping my case so what's your excuse for his loses against ga again I'm not doubting his in season coaching but his championship resume is garbage ant statistics back what I'm saying
Now I got to hear this here too? Jesus man. Freeman inherited a Mercedes 550 and tweeked it. Kelly inherited a 1988 mustang missing half its parts. NIL was in its' infancy when Kelly left ND. Now you have ND buying 1 year rentals at QB. This is a stupid conversation and I am now dumber. Thanks Matt.
Personally I don't care if Kelly does win the national championship next year. Sure I will be ecstatic. But I still won't say that he is the coach for LSU. He just doesn't jive. Sorry. We won't ever like his energy on field with the players or his pressers.@@ghostwalker89
this would be a good story...if Kelly hadn't arrived at his new garage declaring that his old car was an old lemon, and now he could never be beaten again.
There's no debate. BK is a better head coach, if Mike Denbrock wouldn't have left then ND would not be playing in the playoffs and Marcus Freeman would still be irrelevant. Oh and notice how they all of a sudden are ok with paying NIL and going in the transfer portal, I bet Mike Denbrock convinced ND to do so.
@@tomneff7030 And what is your point, is this like, game of thrones or something? As if Denbrock has 'allegiance' to some coach like, 30 years younger than him, when Denbrock probably thinks he should be HC at a place like ND and not some upstart who mainly got the job on the basis of his boyish good looks and charm. They coached together at Cincy, and ND made him an offer he couldn't refuse, and supposedly he prefers the midwest.
@GeauxRilla What did Matt House....who was a bad hire...have to do with Denbrock's departure. I never read anything to support that claim. Please explain.
I also think you can't compare Freeman & Kelly because college football has dramatically changed in 3 years. The main reason BK came to LSU (other than 100 million dollars) is no longer that much of an advantage as it was 3 years ago. Now it's all about money and buying players. And the SEC had an average year because of the portal.
Here is Kelly in big games... During his 12 seasons at Notre Dame, Kelly finished with a record of just 4-11 against opponents that ranked in the Top 10 at the time of the game, including going just 2-5 during the "turnaround" seasons from 2017-21. Two of those Top 10 wins were against opponents that finished unranked (Michigan State, 2012 - Stanford, 2018). Another came against a Clemson team that was playing without its All-American quarterback and three of its best starters on defense (2020). Of course, when the Tigers were healthy in December they pounded Notre Dame 34-10 in the ACC title game. 4-9 vs ranked teams at LSU But go ahead. Think he will suddenly at this point in his career become a great big game coach. 😂
I can walk to Tiger Stadium from my house and continually thank LSU fans for taking Kelly. Don't forget Kelly left because he said he couldn't do it at ND.
Literally the only reason Notre Dame wasnt top 4 in the CF rankings was due to the fact they couldnt be higher than a 5th seed. If this was a top 4 playoff, they would have been in, so its terrible to insinuate that Freeman success isnt as good as Brian Kelly. They went on to beat the heck out of 2 teams you said would have made the top 4.
And in 3 years with better talent and easier recruiting destination this amazing coach hasnt gotten LSU their. And he inherited a program that won it in 2019.
I knew this was going to be a Topic of discussion 🤦🏾♂️ Two different coaches that have took over top tier programs! BK will either sink or swim as a coach just like Freeman! Both are good coaches! Freeman has a hell of team thats big and physical something BK couldn’t get because Notre Dame had an academic standards!
There is a very general consensus among ND fans regarding Brian Kelly: He brought ND back up from the depths of CFB mediocrity and made them a good program. He also was incapable of taking them any further. He was also a mediocre recruiter and his lapses in recruiting set MF up poorly. Keep in mind, that ND had a near non-existent WR room and have needed to seep into the portal to grab a QB 2 years in a row, because Kelly's staff was awful at evaluating QB talent. Overall, Kelly is a good coach. No question. But he isn't a guy who you want in moments where you need to be clutch and a title is on the line. MF has balls of fucking steel. ND may lose to Ohio State. But Kelly doesn't even get them there. MF and his staff put his players in position to win, despite the insane number of injuries they endured. Freeman is a legend, and now it's time for him to cement his legacy on Jan 20th.
It’s probably not totally accurate to assume that the top 4 in the CFP standings would have been the same in a 4 team bracket. The committee probably would have punished conference title game losers more harshly. More likely you would have seen 1 Oregon, 2 Georgia, 3 ND, 4 PSU or Texas based on how prior playoff fields shook out. Ohio State is the main beneficiary of the new format, and good on them for taking advantage.
The biggest issue with Kelly is his disconnection from his team, he doesn’t care about his players like MF does, Freeman does more with less. Facts are facts
I think it’s more about how Brian Kelly left and what he said when he left Notre Dame. He also killed a kid. And left Cincinnati in the dark of the night. And developed a southern accent overnight. I could go on.
Kelly was great at ND and rejuvenated the program. He had taken them as far as he could take them. Under Kelly the Irish beat all the teams they were supposed to & lost to the ones they weren’t. ND owes a lot to Kelly. But Freeman has a different mentality especially in recruiting. Kelly hoped he could get the players at LSU that he couldn’t get at ND. Time will tell. Geaux Irish ☘️
There's no debate. There was no raiding of the roster and coaching staff like Lincoln Riley's departure from OU. What it was is a coach who got offered a lot of guaranteed money and years from LSU vs. an ND extension that was as much about lowering the cost of getting rid of Kelly as rewarding him. BK chose the former, and nobody could blame him. His "it wasn't me it was you" media tour designed to convince people it wasn't about money but some burning desire to win a national title is why this is back in the limelight. BK is the guy who punches in and does his 8 and leaves. That was the complaint about him at ND. Especially with regard to recruiting. Perhaps this will motivate him and LSU benefits.
I also think that 5th ranking was misleading when he left that it was good coaching that could get it there. True. But it wasn't a program that was 5th but it really could win it all, it was never in real danger of winning it all. So if that's the standard, yes, you can kill it at top 10 finishes. Outside, anything can happen thinking, get ready for great seasons that in mind boggling defeats. I want to revisit this thought in week 2 next year because I think they lose another opener.
I never had an issue with BK. HE felt like ND reached the ceiling and left for LSU. THAT and other things he said drew the ire he gets. I also recall YOU making snarky comments when Kelly came to LSU...so if the combination of those two things draw some shots...both of you earned it. As for your analysis today...yea I agree.
Seriously? Look at Brian Kelly's record at Notre Dame. Inability to put teams away that were not at the same talent or depth level Notre Dame was. Inability to beat top ranked opponents year in and year out. The Clemson victory during Covid? Trevor Lawrence was out that game and DJ, who proved again at FSU this year that he can find defensive players with ease, was in. Later that same year in the bowl game, with Trevor Lawrence back, Notre Dame got embarrassed. You then go to the tried and true, academic standards. Yes, they have them. They want their student athletes to get good grades and get a degree. There are thousands of football players in college and only so many draft spots open up in the NFL. Out of those only the top 1st or 2nd round guys usually go far in the NFL. Now what do they do with their lives if they have no degree to their names? Brian Kelly did do a couple things that helped the program. He got a standalone practice facility. He got the school to bring in a training table at the cafeteria. He also had them increase their hours so that his athletes could eat after practice. But he was also an impediment. He didn't recruit in the offseason. His assistants did that. Brian Kelly usually was just there for signings and not much else. Say what you want. You have Brian Kelly and now are feeling like he took you all for a ride since you are now sitting at home watching Notre Dame advance to the National Championship.
Interesting. Crazy cuz LSU imo is going to be awesome next season. They’d be my preseason #3 nationally, #2 in SEC to prohibitive SEC favorite Texas. & I think they may win the national championship
Kelly is a terrible adjustment coach, a selfish guy who blames his players, and a jackass personally. He also can’t beat top tier teams. You are welcome to him.
You forget Notre Dame finished 3rd in the last AP poll. If the CFP committee didn't have to take into account 12 team seeding the way they did with the new format, ND makes a 4 team playoff.
ND would be in the 4 teams max cfb this year. First year that conference champ losers weren’t punished at all because of the new format. 4 teams would likely be 1. Oregon, 2. UGA, 3. ND, 4. Texas. Kelley’s program at ND would lose both those UGA and PSU games this year.
I also think he should have kept Blake. Binging him back was a great move, but at times his D.C. abiliy were a little scetchy to me. Sloan is a great QB coach, but I question him as the OC. Bringing Bo Davis and Peoples, in imho was one, if not the best moves made. All in all, if he can retain this staff, I like our chances
Who is saying ND was fully stocked when freeman took over. Freeman inherited a team with Drew Pyne and Tyler Buchner at QB and the starting WRs were Braden Lenzy and Matt Selerno (walk on) it’s a miracle we won 9 games that year. BK hasn’t recruited well for years and the talent on the ND roster was deteriorating and that’s why we wanted him to be fired, we were just lucky LSU came with a huge bag of money to take him off our hands. I have no negative feelings toward the lsu program at all but I’m telling you BK is not it. He’s been at LSU for 3 years and the roster has actually gotten worse. Meanwhile ND is now the 2nd best team in the country and actually getting better. ND is so stocked with talent right now that we beat 3 top 10 teams in a row while missing 8 starters. I can count on one hand the number of top 5 teams BK beat while at ND over the course of 12 years. I thank him for giving the program some stability but he was definitely holding ND back.
Yep I said the same thing! Still can’t win the big game even after Kelly left! The fan base blames that on Kelly all the time! We’ll see how much of that is his fault!
@georgeroberts506 if he plays Texas then that means they beat OSU. OSU or Texas won't lose the big game if they make it. ND won't lose because of coaching though, they'll lose because they are playing more talented rosters as both OSU and Texas has more weapons on offense and more playmakers on defense. ND fans should be glad they made it this far, because without Mike Denbrock, NIL, portal additions and the expanded 12 team playoff they wouldn't of had the opportunity to even make the playoffs muchless play for a National Championship.
It is really about talent, and LSU had very little when Orgeron left. For 2024, I do believe Coach Kelly put too much faith in the talent he had and basically ignored the portal for the 2024 campaign. Ole Miss took advantage of the portal, especially on defense, and it showed. Portal players that LSU passed on, Ole Miss scooped up. Coach Kelley did not make that same mistake for next season. However, LSU continues the insanity of scheduling power teams for the first game of the season. Although this is not Coach Kelly's fault, other SEC teams are wise enough to not do this. If LSU loses its first game of 2025 to Clemson, LSU can kiss its SEC and National Championship hopes goodbye.
ND stopped backing Kelly because he was plateauing and wasn’t putting much effort into recruiting amongst other things. Hell just a few weeks before the start of his seasons at LSU he’s spending time over in Italy with a few old ND buddies probably when he should be preparing for the upcoming season. He’d do that ND. He’d take time off during many times of the year when he should be in fall/spring camp, or an important recruiting run. It’s no surprise that since Freeman is busting his butt and producing ND is opening the checkbook and giving him what he wants.
I'm sick of this Marcus Freeman inherited a better situation. Also your own compromise you put in your argument is embarrassing. When you say Marcus Freeman inherited a better situation and that made his path easier but then you talk about BK still making it to the title in year 3 like MF just did, well BK didn't inherit such a "good" team so how come BK couldn't replicate his success in year 3 at LSU with the same expanded playoff that MF is utilizing? 85 players on the roster and b/c of transfers BK is responsible for very few of them. About 10% of the total team. Was there talent on this roster 2 years ago, yes. How many seniors are playing on this team that BK recruited? 8. ND starts more sophomores or true freshman than seniors. The QB room and WR room had to be completely rebuilt through recruiting or the transfer portal. And when I say transfer portal I'm not talking about 20 plus kids. ND has 8 players in the transfer portal and only 1 of them was an undergrad transfer, Riley Leonard who transfered from Duke. Now let's talk about success on the field. The first and most glaring stat is that in 12 years, BK couldn't win a NY6 game. Marcus Freeman won 2 of them in 7 days. Let's talk about school restrictions. Outside of BK just bitching about them, Freeman embraces them. Nothing has changed. ND rebuilt their stadium for BK, ND put together funding for a new football building which BK left before ground breaking, ND built a new indoor practice facility, created a training table, changed the field from grass to turf, and added a jumbotron to the stadium. All for Brian Kelly. What did BK do after all of that, run to his cronies in the press who he holds access over to leak phony stories about ND not providing what he needs. Kelly is a liar. He is a fraud and you can listen to his own players on it. Michael Mayer just said in an interview during the summer, BK was never around and MF is with the team all the time. DeShone Kizer is quoted as saying "BK never recruited me, I never met him until I was QB2." Ask former ND players what they think about him. MF has these guys on campus all the time. Legends of ND like Joe Montana and Jerome Bettis have said they would go back to campus as long as BK was there b/c he treated them like garbage. Kelly wouldn't even call back Lou Holtz, the last coach to do it at ND and pay the man the respect he deserves. BK never loved ND. To win at ND you need to love ND. He looked at it as a stepping stone, a vessel for his glory. He failed. MF loves ND. That's why he will succeed. BK will never win at LSU. Answer me this, after 3 years of full recruiting classes, why does BK need to rebuild his roster through the transfer portal?
@ not at Notre Dame. ND has had 0 players enter the transfer portal since the season ended. Marcus Freeman’s players stay because they want to play for him. He brought in 7 players last year and 6 of the 7 were graduate transfers. What is it about BK that he can’t keep his players around?
So let me get this straight BK hands MF a fully loaded team and then you turn around and say ND play's a weak schedule lol How are they fully loaded if they play a weak schedule... HYPOCRISY at it's best! BK is a great coach and by the numbers he's the greatest ND coach of all time but MF has won more bigger games in 3 seasons then BK did in his entire time ND. As a ND fan when it comes to SEC I always pull for LSU, much respect!
Irish fan, BK certainly improved ND as a program and got us to a point where admin could take a chance on someone like MF. However, best for both sides that BK left.
Kelly was something like 58-0 against unranked teams at ND but abysmal against ranked teams and in big games , Kelly turned around the ND program and is a good coach, Freeman has had some bad losses , NIL this year , the ND sports media wanted him fired after that one. Freeman has been better against ranked teams and big games , Freeman is also a good coach. As a ND fan , I have no hate for Kelly , he, as I said turned ND around after the disaster that was Charlie Weiss.
I realoze this is an LSU reporter, but the notion that he left Freeman with a good situation is terribly wrong. The depth at ND was terrible which is why he left.
What LSU fans cant comprehend BK politician talking points while also LSU fans/media "purposely" ignoring it... BK said that ND limit his hands and BK couldnt win due to ND...... Stop gaslighting for BK.... BK will normalize 9 wins seasons. Marcus Freeman is literally winning big (on field and recruiting) with ton of backup players due to numerous injuries. MF is getting MORE out of his team and doesnt coach scared. The actual truth is that BK couldnt handle the Notre Dame standard and Bk never EMBRACED Notre Dame ways. Constant EXCUSES from BK. We ALL tried to warn you and most LSU fans/media threw shit in our face. Good luck with BK and his 10 yr $$$$$$$$ contract.
Well, ND was in good footing. But they still didn't win anything of significance after he left that they didn't win before. They beat bad teams more regularly. Which is an important improvement. But he had a ceiling. I thought you was going to make the major point why, but you didn't. Just pointed out he beat mid teams more regularly
Marcus Freeman has won 2 more major bowl games in a week than Brian Kelly did in 12 years.
This is not a good take. Neither team that ND beat are close to the caliber of teams that BK loss to in the championship/playoffs. Very narrow response.

This!
Great leadership right there 🤨
He did the same thing at Cincinnati too when he got hired at ND. Abandoned his team before a bowl game with zero notice and years left on his contract

Thank you thank you for taking Brian Kelly off our hands. Here's the difference between BK and great coaches:
When Kelly is down by 10, what does he do? Does he display confidence? Does he remain steady? Or does he get scared? That deer in headlights look? Or start yelling and blaming everyone else?
Brian Kelly lost virtually all of his big games at ND and this trend continues at LSU. Teams take on the identity of their HC.
The people that trashed BK from the SEC when he was at ND all the sudden think he’s the next Saban. BK said to keep the receipts so we shall see.
Some of these comments echo what I was thinking. BK did bring them back to relevance. Much true.
He also intentionally imposed that glass ceiling on ND by not maximizing his recruiting efforts, and he instead, played a buck ton of golf. He said, “we shouldn’t have to fight for any recruits, they should want to come here.”
Their blue chip ratio with BK was routinely around 50-60% and Free has gotten that percentage up between 70-80%. He also brought emotion back to ND. BK tamped down emotion and made evrything a business trip.
I do hope they can turn it around down there though. I would still love to see ND beat LSU for the third time in ten years in the CFP
The cope in these comments is just incredible. Good luck with big game Brian guys!
cope is what they've been doing all along....this is now spin, which is required because ND is now publicly rubbing LSU'S nose in the shit it created.

When an ND player was asked about the difference between Kelley and Freeman. The player said Freeman actually knows my name.
Leprechauns everywhere resent the association and strongly reject the implied character assassination.
Lol
Once BK took the LSU job, who had money on ND getting to the Championship game before LSU?
The amount of cope here is hilarious 😂 😂 Go Irish!☘️
Too bad Coach O became worthless after his team won the National Championship. He did nothing but entertain girlfriends at LSU practices.

Moscona, you’re letting your hopes get ahead of what should be your expectations! Do better.
See you all on the 20th 🏆
This is stupidity. 😂
Freeman took an 11-1 team and took him 3 years to get back to 11-1.

His name is Big Game Kelly for a reason. He can coach the regular season pretty decent, but he can't rise to the occasion on a big stage.
Brian Kelly could have won a National Championship in year 2 at LSU with Jayden Daniels but despite what we were told, BK doesn't know how to hire a competent coaching staff.
Doubtful its more likely that a competent staff thinks he to much of a a$$ to work for.
Been a ND fan for 40 years…watched nearly every game. Brian Kelly was indeed holding the team back
There's a reason BK tried to get Marcus Freeman to come to LSU with him as DC...he's a good young coach with a promising career.

Good point...

LSU and ND played 2 common opponents this year. LSU lost to both of them, ND beat both of them.

Most of Kelly's kids from 20-21 are gone.
You can't make that argument anymore with NIL and the transfer portal. Rosters churn every year now.
There are very few seniors on this roster, less than 10 are Brian Kelly recruited. I believe 8 of the 22 starters are seniors that BK recruited.

I also think you can't compare Freeman & Kelly because college football has dramatically changed in 3 years.

4-9 vs ranked teams at LSU
But go ahead. Think he will suddenly at this point in his career become a great big game coach. 😂
Keep telling yourselves whatever you need. Good luck with Kelly. Have fun watching the title game
15:12 "LSU's going to be really good in 202_"
Pressure's on! I know how Kelly handles pressure!
When he became our coach I literally told my father we would not win nothing while he's there
Im tired of the excuses. Bro getting 100 mill. Either win or dont and give up ur seat its that simple 😂
There is a very general consensus among ND fans regarding Brian Kelly:
He brought ND back up from the depths of CFB mediocrity and made them a good program.
Its nice that everyone can pay players now. And just not certain conferences
I hear what fans are saying, but also look at the difference in scheduling for each program.
Say what yall want. BK isn't winning a natty at LSU he isent the right coach 😢
ND has a leader as head coach instead of a used car salesman and it shows
My ND friends are pleased that Kelly is no longer at ND. But they do not wish him well.
You forget Notre Dame finished 3rd in the last AP poll. If the CFP committee didn't have to take into account 12 team seeding the way they did with the new format, ND makes a 4 team playoff.
LSU also has a tougher schedule than Notre Dame every year. 💜💛
BK is the one who brought in Marcus Freeman
I also think he should have kept Blake. Binging him back was a great move, but at times his D.C. abiliy were a little scetchy to me. Sloan is a
great QB
coach, but I
question him
as the OC.
Bringing Bo Davis and Peoples, in imho was one, if not the best moves made. All in all, if he can retain this staff, I like our chances
Marcus Freeman has more NY6 bowl victories in 3 years than Brian Kelly in his entire career. 😂
Freeman will lose in the championship game just like BK did.
Yep I said the same thing! Still can’t win the big game even after Kelly left! The fan base blames that on Kelly all the time! We’ll see how much of that is his fault!
If he plays Texas he’s not
@@georgeroberts506Shouldn't you be focused on winning the transfer portal?
Well as long as Blake said so.
Sooner or later, this pondering was going to surface all over the place! I sure hope Kelly was NOT the problem in South Bend.
Simple answer to the question at the end of your gigantic word salad is you have to use the transfer portal because of the transfer portal.
I love listening to down and out SEC fans give opinions 😂👍
They’re both great coaches.
What great situation and Freeman got the qb room back on track
How can you say Norte dame would’ve been left out they were ranked 3rd in the AP and 5th in the playoff ranking.
Really? Who would you rather have as LSU's coach right now; BK or Freeman?
