Molly Jane It really doesn’t take that extensive of a knowledge of the play to understand what’s going on, even if he’d only read it once he’d probably get most of it.

just saw an interview Mulaney did w/ Vulture where he referenced stuff like this, he said "I was embarrassed because I didn’t know enough about the plays to get how the quotes of mine matched up. So I sort of appreciated it, but I kind of felt very uneducated."

You do, indeed. Hamlet as a play is seriously overrated within the Shakespeare oeuvre, my least favorite among his greatest hits. If you know enough to get the jokes, quit while you're ahead.

Surprisingly, hearing John Mulaney describe Hamlet in just less than five minutes with his comedy shows and specials is much better than hearing that in any high school English classroom.

My favorite part of the play is probably Fortinbras showing up in the end, all ready to invade, and just being like "what the fuck happened here? Why is everyone dead already?"
Also, Hamlet, the play so wild that the main character got kidnapped by pirates and it wasn't even really a major plot point
(Second part stolen, don't remember where from)

AND THIS IS SO ACCURATE, GOSH! This is perfect. I loved Hamlet's soliloquy in act II scene 2, and Horatio's last part. And Fortimbras' bonus is the perfect bonus
