Ok, good. You named places in the Southern end. That's the place to live if you are stuck in Lancaster county. Down near Conestoga. I didn't like the Lancaster area and I strongly do not recommend it. But at least you know where to stomp around.
@@cantfindmykeys Conestoga has the Conestoga Wagon, and in the summer the Conestoga Pool has snacks. Many farms also have stands. Closest bar is the Frogtown in Marticville.
@@FrancisKoczur I know the frogtown cafe. I've played pool at Marticville tavern. Pequea tavern. I know all the spots along the river and down in that area. I used to hike Tucquan trails and the pinnacle is very pretty. I just despise the town of Lancaster. My friends have a beautiful property along the Conestoga river where we go kayaking. On the Susquehanna, too. I still have some Pine Dairy gift cards. I used them for the Achenbach's long johns. Vanilla is my favorite.
My mom, sisters and I love doing day trips to Lancaster and stopping at thrift stores and material shops. So fun seeing the places + ideas you shared! We'll have to check them out on our next trip!
Wow, so sorry for you. You think you are happy living in Lancaster. You must have some effective delusional potion to stay in your private little Lalaland. I'm guessing you have never lived anywhere else and don't know the difference.
Hi Megan, great video! I am happy to say that we have been to all but the last place. About 20 years ago or so we discovered Lancaster County and fell in love. I am a quilter, seamstress and a crafter. I am self taught so I would look closely at the quilts for sale to learn how to make them and how to sew the bindings on. Red Caboose hotel is still a favorite place. We always go there near the end of our day. We stayed in one of the cabooses years ago. It was really cool. Different owners then. They had hoedowns(sp) in the barn on weekends which were loads of fun. Had hay bales for seats. We also styed at the Steamboat Inn one year for our anniversary. Another great experience and wonderful memories. Stayed at Kitchen Kettle Village for another anniversary. They treated us like royalty. Had a special fruit basket, flowers and balloons waiting in our suite. We used to come up there about every other month but my husband works a lot of weekends now so not quite as often. My favorite peaceful place is in the back of Kitchen Kettle Village. Although these past few years it has become more commercialized. (Is that a word?) They have expanded so much. The village and I are the same age, 65. Your video has opened a world of wonderful memories hence this long comment! Anyway, we love it up there and our next trip will be in a couple of weekends. BTW, we live in MD. :)
We are planning a trip to Lancaster end of July and I remembered that you had done this video. I just re-watched it for reference. Definitely going to check out one or two of these places! Would love to bump into you! I have been following your channel for probably close to a couple of years now.
I’m a lifelong Lancaster native and I don’t think I have been to any of these places! I just got back from Shady Maple this minute though, lol. I live in the city and have seen lots of that, but it appears I need to get outside it more often. Thanks for the advice! I have a two year old who will enjoy these places.
I live in Allegany County MD and Visit or pass through Lancaster often. It's beautiful with authentic people who make it a wonderful experience every time! I also am familiar with Allegheny boys camp. It's wonderful hearing the ice cream shop donates profit and runs off volunteers! I'm so glad I found your channel!
Oh, wow! What a great list of recommendations! I will definitely refer back to this video if I ever visit the area. I loved seeing all the modestly dressed ladies that live in your area. Seeing that in my area is very rare. 😉
My sister and I spent a week there a few years ago. Most relaxing place I have ever been! We rented a little cottage in the country. Some of the things we saw - Sight & Sound, Strasburg Railroad, and the tabernacle at the Mennonite Visitors Center. We drove the country roads and watched Amish farmers planting crops, saw Amish school children playing in a school yard and even came across a little home shop in a front yard. We attended an Amish Mennonite service on Sunday morning where the singing was beautiful! Our Amish buggy driver was so much fun. I'd go back in an instant!
I love coming to Lancaster county! A few years ago we went to Sight and Sound, Strasburg Railroad, and a model train place nearby. We really enjoyed that. I also love all the quaint shops and discount stores too!!
Spent a lot of time growing up at my grandmothers house at the Buck and on her farm at Pleasant Grove. Gear heads would enjoy the Buck Tractor Pulls - the only full time pulling track in the country.
When I was a child my family and used to stay at a campground in Lancaster County. I remember that the campground overlooked an Amish schoolhouse. We visited an Amish farm and purchased delicious homemade bread and root beer, had fun at Dutch Wonderland, and bought cookies at Kitchen Kettle. It is so nice to find out about other places to visit and activities in the county. Great narration and filming! Thank you for posting the video! 🌳
I have been to Lancaster only once to go to the Sight and Sound Theatre. It was a place my mom loved to go. This summer my 2 sisters and I are going back on the anniversary of mom's passing last year. We will spend her day doing the things she enjoyed there - Sight and Sound Theatre and ice cream. Thanks for the suggestions of ice cream places to try!
Good job from a fellow Lancaster County Gal! I grew up in Leola... didn’t realize people outside of Leola knew about Hayloft Candles!!! Such a great place to bring kiddos or even as a date night spot. 👍
Be glad you escaped. Unfortunately, my parents still live in Lancaster so I have to return from time to time. I went to U of DE. Anything is better than Lancaster. I have since lived 20 years in the Keys and I'm headed to S. and central America next.
I ❤❤ Lancaster. I have taken so many trips there. There is a place called Dienners that is awesome and I believe it was ran by a Mennonite family. I also visited the Amish farm many years ago. I even named my son's with amish names and took pics of them in amish outfits as babies that we had bought in an amish store. The one thing I do miss is shoo-fly pie because I can not get it whenever I'm craving it.
Most of the times that our family has gone we had stayed at Soudersburg motel which has an amish farm right behind it. It made the experience so exciting.
we love Deinners so much and katie's. wow. we go out to Lancaster two to three times a year. we're come this June. were even talking about moving out there in two year's
Thank you for bringing me home to Lancaster been to alot of them, Bowmansville lived there when my children were babies, loved shopping at the old stores off of 30 near the Strausburg railroad, slept in the railcars at Red Caboose. Miss all the Amish foods, shoofly pies, whoopipies, the foods my grandma made, potato salad and the relishes. Boy, really made my day. Thank you again for the pictures of home.
Very interesting. Thanks. I can't wait to visit some of these places. I know my daughter's Christian School went to The Red Caboose and Stasburg Railroad for their 8th grade graduation trip. She loved it. She grew up in Georgia until she was 13 yrs old.
hi megan i lived at 417 pearl street for 20 years now live in florida, i love bird in hand bakery ,i had a computer repair shop on rt 30 in paradise .i love kitchen kettle also and good and plenty and strasburg railroad too.
We love Lancaster County. We try to camp there once a year, if we weren't busy we would get there more. We like browsing and shopping at the Goods Store. Will put Bird in Hand on our to do list! Thanks for sharing!
Hi again Megan, I live within 5 to 10 minutes to almost all the places you show. I visit Hayloft and the little veg. stand weekly. When I was younger I worked at Red Caboose and the past owner and I are still very close friends, having lunch together a lot. I love the trains also. I can hear them from my house. Thanks for sharing all this so others who come here can visit.......and the camels are very special to see, something you don't expect here.
The first thing we are going to do on Sunday is right on the 611 steam locomotive and will be sure to take your advice on where to also see it thanks. We have been to the farmers supply many times. Monday we will be doing genealogical research on my wife’s family in the area
Yay!! So excited. I've been to all the places you suggested or atleast been by them except Hayloft creamery but will try next time. We always stop at the hardware and I have pics of the camels. Thank you for sharing. I was one of the ones asking for suggestions so thanks. Also, Dieners is a great buffet place to have breakfast or dinner. Good prices and good food. And be sure to check out the road side stands on the country roads. They have delicious baked good and fresh flowers and canned jams and pickles. There is a really good one we always go to, if you go down harvest drive right in front of Kauffmans and follow the roads you will find the little stand. The sweetest kids are usually there running it with their dad. Unfortunately their mother passed away last couple years from cancer. You must stop by and by some sweet rolls. So delicious. Thanks for sharing.
We visit Lancaster County usually once a month except for the summer. Too busy, plus hot and sticky. We have been to/ or are aware of all the places you mentioned. Good choices. If anyone enjoys going to Amish business...these are two that I recommend. Fishers Hardware and Fabrics 1098 Georgetown Rd in Bart. They have a very nice selection of kitchen utensils, fabric, book and more - with very reasonable prices. For food and bulk items I recommend Centerville Bulk Foods,1098 Georgetown Rd, Paradise, PA 17562
Hello from Canada! I was in Lancaster 2 months ago . Wish I had seen this video earlier. We did go to the bird in hand bakery and it was amazing! Great coffee and baked goods. Thanks for sharing😊👍
This is perfect! I just asked for this video. I feel so special. We always look for cheap and free ways to enjoy new places. And LOVE trains! The area is incredibly beautiful. and Alpacas! They are adorable creatures. This made me so happy. I haven't been since I was a little girl and don't remember much. I'm in South Jersey. Thanks Megan.
We used to take the kids camping in that area, woke to cow mature (farm next to camp ground) loved it! Kids loved the drive through the country and we stopped at a lot of small side stands. One had the best blueberry pies. Do you know of Sadies? I remember going to her home to get the best sugar cookies. Kids picked out other goodies also. I think she sold her bakery goodies to the local stores. I don’t even remember how I got her address where they did the baking. That was years ago, always wondered if she still there. I no longer have the address it’s been so long. I live in Maryland so not far from Pa. my favorite place to visit.
I live in Maryland and go to Lancaster every couple of years. I love the fabric stores, and scrapbook stores although I don't know if they're still there now.
we live 3hr's from Lancaster we in johnstown. we come out there probably two three times a year. we're coming this June. always in t he fall. my wife and I love Lancaster's country so much we're talking about moving out there in two year's. we just have tto figure out were going to move. great vedio.
I am from Columbus, Ohio. Last week, October 14th - 18th, 2020, we visited Lancaster, Pa on our vacation and your video guided me as to what we did during our time in Bird-in-Hand. Also, your restaurant suggestions were very good also. I really appreciated your guidance. Thank you so much!!!!!
I love Lancaster PA. We used to live in Snyder County near Selinsgrove PA. We moved recently to Mountoursville area because my husband is a Pastor. Love your channel and I miss the Amish and Mennonites.
Megan, I'm a new subscriber, loving your videos. Years ago my late husband and I spent a week in Intercourse Pennsylvania, we loved every second of our visit. We stayed at a B&B that was located next door to an Amish Farm who's brother owned the Farm right across the street ... every morning one of the Farmers came over for coffee while we were having breakfast and he would answer our questions about their lifestyle ... it was informative and truly relaxing. I would love to visit again, but I'm on the West Coast now so it would be a bigger more expensive trip. Thank you for sharing these places with us ... it brought back some wonderful memories and one of my favorite things that we did while there was stopping at a few of the Amish/Mennonite Roadside stands and getting homemade root beer and Shoefly Pie ... delicious.
My husband and I went on a Church event trip out to the Sight and Sound Theater about six years ago. Time goes by fast, I was 13weeks pregnant with our first at the time. We live in Pittsburgh PA area, beautiful towards the middle part of PA. Three kids later I would like to take a "minie vacation" with my husband this fall if possible. Thanks.
My husband grew up in that area and we come visit family there all the way from Georgia. One of our favorite things to do is Aaron and Jessica's buggy ride tours. They take you on an Amish buggy tour through the farms where cars can't go. We will definitely have to check some of these places out when we were up there in the fall!
I drive a truck for New Holland Tire in New Holland Pa and we have a huge tire retread factory in Sumner Ga between Albany and Sylvester on rt 82. Just left there last night on my way back to Paradise Pa.
I’ve been following your channel just for one week now, and I’m totally blown away from the different lifestyles and believes that are around the world other than the usual ones. I’m from Germany and I never heard from Mennonites before. I would love to learn more about where you live and your lifestyle. 😊
I live in Chester county almost in Lancaster county I’ve driven through all these small towns many times but never stopped now I may have to stop in a few places.
I live in Lancaster. I have never seen the Strasburg Railroad, but I have passed by Dutch Wonderland when going somewhere, and I did visit Hersheypark back two years ago. I also went to Quarryville last year and saw the Atglen & Susquehanna Branch trail bridge. Definitely cool place to go. I loved your video so much.
I enjoyed this video so much. My mothers father was Mennonite and this is so interesting. My Mom has always said supper, instead of dinner etc. Thank you for sharing your lives. Great Grandma always wore a hair bun and homemade dresses. i saw her hair down once.
I am definitely going to Bird and Hand farm supply. I’ve gone by it several times when visiting. I didn’t know groceries were sold there. We will be staying at country Acres campground in Gordonville in August. I cant wait! I love traveling on the back roads stopping at the roadside stands for fruit and vegetables!
I love Lancaster county!!! When our children were young.,we were there quite often. Our favorite place to stay was the Red Caboose Hotel. We stayed there often!!! We also loved packing a picnic and riding the train ,getting off at the picnic Grove and eating and letting the kids play on the playground . It made a great day trip when we couldn't really stay overnight. I was surprised at how empty the cars were when the train went by in the video. Thank you for giving me some new ideas of places to go in your area. I love your channel!
I love Lancaster County, but I really only know Lititz, Lancaster city, and Columbia. We are Maryland transplants to York County, but we'll have to check out some of these places.
I am wanting to get there next weekend September 2020, any suggestions on what I should know during this 2020 time 🤔? I would love to visit with my husband and possibly my adult son, to celebrate my Birthday and Anniversary, which are a day apart, shh, so my husband could remember them easier. Giggles. HUGS and GOD bless you all
When we still lived in NJ the Red Caboose Motel was a go to with our young kids. Last summer, after living in Florida for 23 years we once again stayed at the Red Caboose, this time with our granddaughter. It’s not a first class hotel by any stretch of the imagination, but the experience is priceless. When eating in the dining car, ask them to turn on the hydraulics and you will feel as though the dining car is moving. We will definitely be back before we die LOL. Lancaster is a beautiful area.
Born and raised in Lebanon, County but lived in SD for 16 years. We are now back in Lebanon County and after 16 years away, we are starved for everything PA Dutch that we missed while in SD. But now we have major problems getting around, there is so much we would love to do but everything involves so much walking. Any suggestions for good Pa Dutch experiences for people with handicaps. We loved Longwood Gardens and Landis Valley Museum but don't feel like we can do these anymore.
There's a petting zoo at Long's Park, but it never seems to be open. Landis Valley has some of the original farm animals brought over on the settler's ships. Heirloom stock cattle, geese, pigs, horses. I like Landis Valley and the farm museum.
My favorite area was Intercourse and the whoopie pies, also the country store there, my sister and I used to get our quilting fabric there,.Another great video thank you
Fun video! I've never been there but I think my husband and I would love it. It looks like a place where you would feel right at home. Someday when we retire from farming, we will definitely take a drive out there so we can enjoy it first hand.
Hi Megan, your video came up in my feed today since I’m planning a couple days in Lancaster over the summer. I’ve been twice before and have done traditional Amish things, so this time will be staying at an awesome Airbnb in town and looking for new ideas. Thx for some great suggestions, I even subscribed to see what else you’ve got in store. 😇😎
So cute! I live in Northern Virginia and have spent many, many summers and different trips in PA but have never heard anyone really suggest any of these little places. We may just have to take a day trip up there this summer! Great ideas, Megan!
Strasburg Pa-- Village Greens Miniature Golf (amazing courses) and the Strasburg Creamery (homemade ice cream/waffle cones/deli & mini general store w/candy) antique stores and even a Ghost walk tour. Really cute historic town--close to Rockvale outlets.
We were to Lancaster just this past wkend visiting friends an they took us to,Lapp valley farm, they have yuuummmyy ice cream an the scenery is amazing!!
This was a great video! I live in York and we love to visit Lancaster!! This gave us some great ideas of places we have not been so thank you for sharing!!!
We have a Bald Eagle Boys Camp here in Clinton County, PA About 12 miles from the driveway of the camp is a Soft Ice Cream/homemade pretzels/ soups and sandwiches, etc. store... Owned by Mennonite volunteers to support the school. It’s called The Ice Shack. It’s a great program for troubled boys. The food is the best! I’ve been to Lancaster many times and will be staying at the Red Caboose Motel in May. Thanks for the ideas.
How about Rough & Tumble?? That’s a hidden treasure of Lancaster county. I’ve meet people from Holland, Australia, New York, Scott-land.... It’s a Steam Museum. It’s located along famous Route 30 in Kinzers PA. You’ll love it!! Great family friendly atmosphere.
We love going to visit Lancaster county! I was actually born there on the Westfield Egg Farm in New Holland. I grew up enjoying the Wax Museum and the OneRoom Schoolhouse, all the shopping places. I wondered if you would know some of my dear friends that live around you!
Just off of rt 30 where the Health Campus area is, there was Good's dairy. Many many years ago. They had great ice cream and llamas. A llama spit on my Dad once because he was talking to it. That was when living in Lancaster was nice. We had the sense to leave before it became a congested, high taxed bedroom community of neighboring large cities.
We are checking into The Red Caboose Motel right now, surprising my train-loving little kids, all thanks to you and your awesome video! Also, I thought Bird In Hand was a fictional town in a book I read until I saw your video!!! Definitely going there this weekend! Thank you so much for inspiring a long overdue family vacation!!!
So is Crist Miller's Bulk Food store still around, or is that long gone? We used to get groceries there when I was a kid. My third birthday pictures were taken in front of that locomotive. Everyone in the picture is all spiffed up for my birthday, except my father, who was firing the loco that day.
Thank you for sharing! My family and I will have to plan a trip to Pennsylvania one day. It looks like there are a lot of neat places there. I had only heard of places like Hershey park. Glad to know there are way more places to visit.
I loved Bird in Hand bakery and café when we were there. My husbands family’s is from Pittsburgh but the reside in Wernersville. Pennsylvania is definitely my happy place. I’m from Arkansas but love PA.
I enjoy your channel so much. I have no idea if I will ever make it to Lancaster County but I enjoyed hearing you talk about it. Thank you for sharing!
Thanks for sharing these places, waters edge is the place where my hubby told me he loved me for the first time back when we were dating, many happy memories there. Never been to Bird in Hand bakery on 340 but to another place called the same thing on one of the backroads, will have to try that soon! I love exploring our home area!
I love the Bird in Hand farm supply. I try to get down once a year. Haven't been to the hayloft in a while, I think they used to have a petting zoo years ago. My new favorite place is Roots Market.
My mom and I go twice a year. We love it. We have been to 2 of the places. Love the area and are headed down at the end of August 😍I love Shady Maple Smorgasbord!
DarCar Horst, I haven’t been there in a decade, I remember it as hayloft candles. I also remember the zoo, I’ve been told it’s gone, I was terrified of the llama, his teeth were terribly crooked and I thought he would bite me.
I live in Australia and it is so interesting to see different parts of America. This area is gorgeous.
My family and I love to go to Shady Maple.. haven't been to many places around that area but definitely will especially thrift stores.

Aww that's sweet! Yes I'll have to check that stand out. And Deiners is probably 1 mile from my house.
I live in new Holland was born and raised in Lancaster county on Welsh mountain. My favorite place for ice cream is fox creamery and lapp valley

I love Lancaster! Looking at coming this next week! Thank you for the video on places to check out with children.
Love Lancaster! My favorite farm stand is the one directly across from hayloft. They have the best peanut butter cookies!
I live in Maryland so not far from Pa. my favorite place to visit.
i’ve been going to Hayloft ever since i was young. i loved looking at the animals when they were there!
I live in Maryland and go to Lancaster every couple of years. I love the fabric stores, and scrapbook stores although I don't know if they're still there now.
I plan to visit early fall. Thanks for the recommendations.
we live 3hr's from Lancaster we in johnstown. we come out there probably two three times a year. we're coming this June. always in t he fall. my wife and I love Lancaster's country so much we're talking about moving out there in two year's. we just have tto figure out were going to move. great vedio.
Thank you for these recommendations! I want to go and take my grandchildren to each and every one of these! 🥰
Thank you for sharing these places with us ... it brought back some wonderful memories and one of my favorite things that we did while there was stopping at a few of the Amish/Mennonite Roadside stands and getting homemade root beer and Shoefly Pie ... delicious.
That's some beautiful country !! Thank you for sharing ! ❤
We are there almost every weekend, my husband works in Greenfield. A good thrift store in the area is Community Aide and every Wednesday is 50% off
I’ve been following your channel just for one week now, and I’m totally blown away from the different lifestyles and believes that are around the world other than the usual ones.
I’m from Germany and I never heard from Mennonites before. I would love to learn more about where you live and your lifestyle. 😊
I live in Chester county almost in Lancaster county I’ve driven through all these small towns many times but never stopped now I may have to stop in a few places.
My cousin lives in Chester. You don't want to hang out in Lancaster, believe me. It's a pit.
As I live in Harrisburg, I have been to Lancaster many times and enjoy every minute of it!
The Lil country store & miniature horse farm on Paradise Lane is fun for children!
I enjoyed this video so much. My mothers father was Mennonite and this is so interesting. My Mom has always said supper, instead of dinner etc. Thank you for sharing your lives. Great Grandma always wore a hair bun and homemade dresses. i saw her hair down once.
Love Lancaster live 20 min from there !! Awesome place to visit !! Love eating all the good deserts and food !!
We will be in Lancaster this Sunday through Thursday. Really enjoy you posts.
I will be moving to the lewisberry area from Indiana. Thanks for some ideas to do while I live there.
The video of the train going by was taken in April. This time of year the cars are all packed!
I love Lancaster County, but I really only know Lititz, Lancaster city, and Columbia. We are Maryland transplants to York County, but we'll have to check out some of these places.
I have visited several of those places. thank you for sharing.
I am wanting to get there next weekend September 2020, any suggestions on what I should know during this 2020 time 🤔? I would love to visit with my husband and possibly my adult son, to celebrate my Birthday and Anniversary, which are a day apart, shh, so my husband could remember them easier. Giggles. HUGS and GOD bless you all
Subscribed💕I love this video❤️I’m from Boston and this is really helpful since I’m here finding what to do with my kids. Thanks 💕
Thank you Megan for these places I have never been to and live close to! I will be visiting soon with my four grandkids 😊
I miss the Hayloft petting zoo and when the creamery used to be a gift shop...we used to go every Saturday as kids!
There's a petting zoo at Long's Park, but it never seems to be open. Landis Valley has some of the original farm animals brought over on the settler's ships. Heirloom stock cattle, geese, pigs, horses. I like Landis Valley and the farm museum.
Never been but what beautiful scenery. Thank you Megan
a video on you tube that awesome. as a Lancaster County resident thank you for this
My favorite area was Intercourse and the whoopie pies, also the country store there, my sister and I used to get our quilting fabric there,.Another great video thank you
Megan, I LOVE the farm store. I especially enjoy my big pulley clothesline 💜
This was a great video! I live in York and we love to visit Lancaster!! This gave us some great ideas of places we have not been so thank you for sharing!!!
We have a Bald Eagle Boys Camp here in Clinton County, PA
About 12 miles from the driveway of the camp is a Soft Ice Cream/homemade pretzels/ soups and sandwiches, etc.
We live in Berks county. Great tips when we make our way to Lancaster. Thank you.
Thank you! We go to Sight and Sound. I can't get over the feeling of intruding on their lifestyle and culture so I don't go to too many places.
I've been there so many times!! The Amish store is my favorite AND the bakery! Can't wait to go back.
Yes the one on Gibbons Road is called the Bird in Hand Bake Shop. So confusing!
Megan. Ty so much for the video. I became a new friend of your channel today and appreciate your videos
I love the Bird in Hand farm supply. I try to get down once a year. Haven't been to the hayloft in a while, I think they used to have a petting zoo years ago. My new favorite place is Roots Market.
We love going to Lapp Valley Farm. I have gone there since I was little and love taking my kids there now :)
My mom and I go twice a year. We love it. We have been to 2 of the places. Love the area and are headed down at the end of August 😍I love Shady Maple Smorgasbord!
Shady Maple is the best.
Been to Lancaster often, I grew up there & my parents still live there. My sister works at Hayloft Creamery, so we've been there.. yummy😋
DarCar Horst, I haven’t been there in a decade, I remember it as hayloft candles. I also remember the zoo, I’ve been told it’s gone, I was terrified of the llama, his teeth were terribly crooked and I thought he would bite me.
