Micheal Palmisano….I don’t know how to thank you. I really don’t. In the past two days I watched two of you videos one “Sideways” the other “Shotgun”. They hit me hard. They influenced my perspective on things. I had a really deep, heart to heart, conversation with my 10 year old today, because of some stuff he was going through. It brought out a lot of my demons(in a positive way) that helped me connect with him in a way I never had before. He hugged me soooo tight afterwards, it was something I never felt before. We both erupted in tears. Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

To me Rick Davies was always the Supertramp Creator Genius, I'm a big Supertramp Fan!!! thank you for your vídeo!!! hugs!!!
In the same vein I suggest checking out Supertramp’s « Another Man’s Woman », Live at Royal Albert Hall version (possibly only audio available?). Rick Davies’ solo is Amazing in that one too.
Before the development of electronic reverb, a recording engineer named Spector developed a technology called Wall of Sound. This required bringing in numerous musicians to play the same song on the same instruments creating a natural wall of sound. Rick Davies was a master percussionist. One could still create a wall of sound after the development of electronic reverb between the drums and piano for example. Rick was a percussionist on the piano.
Perhaps the most overlooked band in rock history. Your reaction to this reminds me of my own reaction when I first heard them. You have such a great journey ahead of you when you dig into the Supertramp catalogue.
This has been my go-to song for starting a long drive down the highway. Everything around me disappears; leaving me with that piano groove, the road and the car. I am lost for 7.5 minutes and enjoy the drive without a care in the world…
I saw Supertramp live coming off of the Crime of the Century album in 1976 I believe. Jan Hammer opened for them. It was one of the best concerts I've ever attended. Sooooo damn good.
Saw this band way back in 1977 and was awestruck. Couldn’t believe what I was hearing The audience was dumbfounded. Was easily the best concert I have I have seen still to this day.
Always loved Supertramp. First saw them summer 1979 in Jarry Park in Montreal. Rick Davies on piano and Rodger Hodgens vocals and keyboards. More Supertramp.
Been watching you for years Michael. Whenever I get into a band it feels like your there. Years can go by but yet there you pop up with that trademark enthusiasm. Educating and entertaining in equal measure. Keep doing what your doing. Much appreciated.
Michael, I love Supertramp and have for years. Try out Goodbye Stranger from the same consert. Since you are a guitar player you might the shift in this song at 4.30, when Roger Hodgson starts his solo - That´s another even another level. Or check out School (same consert) and se what you think of Rick Davies Solo at about 3.03 when he move from one keyboard to another. That sound pretty good.
Really happy I found this reaction as I was gobsmacked by this the first time I seen it. Rick is my favourite piano player. His velocity and speed is next to none. Silly good.
Dude, I swear you and I have the same musical brain, but you have the talent I don't have. I mean, I am about 15 years older than you, and this song (and group) was forgotten. Keep up the good work.
Absolutely, just amazing and tastefully done! It's amazing when you can see a band jam together like that and create some of the most memorable experiences! All working together with their own parts and letting each one shine in his/her own way! This is one outstanding performance! The man can rock the piano!
Seen many times in concert. Roger Hodgson as solo. Always awesome. Check out Rick Davies piano on Another Man's Woman live from It Was the Best of Times album. Will blow you away
What a great band! "Even in the quietest moments" is a fantastic recording. Their music is layered, intricate...I guess you would call it subdivisions. Its interesting music and never trite!!
My all time favourite piano track. Roger and Rick did have unusual arrangements that are also extremely infectious, they're similar to Bowie in that regard.
Thanks for covering Supertramp! A spectacular prog-pop band. This entire concert (available on Blu-ray and CD) is killer. The song you were thinking of at the beginning is "Breakfast in America." One other thing worth discussing in this performance is Dougie Thomson's bass, always a beautiful combination of groove and melodicism. (All those slides are a big part of his style.) Btw, nice hat! Billy Strings is the bluegrass wunderkind!
when you talk about taking artists for granted. I listened to Zeppelin on repeat for years when I was a teenager. And while I never forget they are great sometimes I listen to something as an adult and I'm just blown away by it again.
For years I’ve been saying this. Child Of Vision piano solo is the greatest RnR solo of all times. Yes Elton has laid down some amazing life solos but Child of Vision just captures the soul.
Roger Hodgson. Love Supertramp, but his solo stuff is amazing. Lord, Is It Mine? solo or with the band is beautiful. I enjoyed hearing your commentary on this one. Thanks.
I totally agree. I used to have this album when I was younger. The original track solo is also so good. It is what turned me on to listening to piano music. I don't play piano, I play guitar, mandolin and upright bass but have mad respect for piano
You hit the mark by praising a band that, frankly, deserves so much more praise than it gets. I know that a few hits off Breakfast and Crime (their best album) took hold here in the states...But there is so much amazing music worth digging into from this band. As someone said, there was a rivalry between Rick and Roger...Typically people seem to favor Roger as being the better of the two...Personally, I love Rick and I even like a lot of the stuff he did after Rogers departure
I hear you on the whole taking an artist for granted part. I've listened to a reasonable amount of Supertramp over the years and Brother Where You Bound is a favourite of mine. For some inexplicable reason I've never really explored further and I need to fix that.
The thing about supertramp beyond their virtuosity, they were writing music for people before trying to satisfy the market, I mean touching people's heart, I'm 25 years old, discovered them in 2019 and from then, there are that are lived and which marks that moment or memory.
Ok so for a long time now i have been pushing this song as great and my favorite piano driven lead played by Rick Davies. I was proud as i watched you react to it's beautiful genius. Lord is it mine and my kind of lady are also gems. Crime of the century and i took a boat on sunday i think its called are diamonds. From now on is another one to listen to. Thanks a lot for visiting this and happy listening
Check out Crime of the Century the full album. Its one of the best albums to trip acid to. I think its the 2nd best album ever made and apparently it was John Bonnhams favorite album.
I understand that analyzing this type of music is fascinating and inspiring, I did it with almost all their discography but the thing is that, composers like Roger doesn't give lot of importance to what they are doing technically, rather the music just comes by itself, you can do great things just with one key, so yeah absolutely mesmerizing how creative they are, I love jazz and improvisation but sometimes you hear things that are memorable, it isn't when it comes to supertramp, king crimson, pink floyd, camel, Elp, yes.
Child of Vision is good, but check out 1975's The Meaning - that's extra special. Can't promise you any Rick Davies fireworks, but John Helliwell is on form with his saxophony.
And if you want to hear the most perfect, yet simple, love song by Supertramp, listen to "Downstream" from the album "Even in the quietest moments". It's nothing like this song but just shows their genius and flexibility. To me "Downstream" has the hall mark of pure musical genius and talent. It's perfect. Take your wife or girlfriend out in a small boat somewhere quiet and peaceful, on a Sunday, enjoy some time together alone and then go home and play her this song as a forever memory! She'll believe you truly are romantic!
Well - ELO was pretty much Jeff Lynne writing/recording almost everything. Although ELO and Supertramp both fall into that great mid/late 70s POP era - they are completely different animals.
I'm not a guitar player so I'm not taking lessons... but!! LOL! I've been a fan of these guys for decades... I would humbly suggest Ain't Nobody But Me from the Paris Live 1979 performance. And this one has a bad-ass guitar rip!
I have been fortunate enough to have seen Supertramp “The Tramp” Live 3 times. Their live shows are a spectacle and brilliant. Each member is a musical genius. Rick Davies is my favorite keyboards player and John Helliwell is favorite Sax player. He is a blast to watch live. The bass and drummer are awesome and Roger’s guitars are superb. The only live show I put above Supertramp is Pink Floyd, who I have seen 4 times.
Now it's time to do the best guitar solo in Supertramp history. It's a song from their first album, with a different lineup, called Try Again. The best guitar solo you've never heard.
Kick ass song..even from a heavy metal guy like me....pure f'ing talent! Such a cool bass grove...had me bouncing around the room. Great reviews by the way...I always learn much.
Man I love this channel. I really appreciate what you do. I am just a self-taught teenager and these sorts of sources are the only reason where I am at. If you have not already heard of Tanner Usrey I highly encourage you give him a listen, (especially beautiful lies).
There are three bands/musicians who for me are beyond comparison: The Beatles, Queen and Kate Bush. But from all other "normal" bands Supertramp are my favourites. It is such a shame that they haven't been inducted into the R'n'R Hall of fame yet!
Crazy I ran across this...I have been doing a full on Supertramp exploration...the result is they are ALMOST as good as Pink Floyd with the musicality and the musicianship....the songs are a bit "poppy"...but an incredible catalog. Top 5 band for me... For you....the outro for Goodbye Stranger is some of the best guitar work ever...sounding....dude shreds...
Supertramp, París 1979. This song was not included on the first LP, but was included on the 2010 reissue. It's amazing , but it's not Rick's best piano solo. I recommend any live version of Another Man's Woman
Rik Davies is the piano player plays smaller venues in the Ohio area Ricky and the Rockets .And Roger Hodgson has been playing casino venues all over the world seen both respectably several times . You listen like I do.Same taste in music for sure ! To see these guys live is life changing . Jealous of that Billy Strings hat and I seen Bramhall in one of your vid thumbnails .Sold me on the Subscription . Check out Roger Waters in the flesh live video concert with Doyal Bramhall ii on guitar It will blow your mind BTW Doyal's ex is one of the backup singers .
DO NOT MISS RICK'S PIANO SOLO: 8:30
Thanks for picking my song suggestion! Glad you enjoyed it!!
Micheal Palmisano….I don’t know how to thank you. I really don’t. In the past two days I watched two of you videos one “Sideways” the other “Shotgun”. They hit me hard. @ Yes, but this song is by Roger Hodgson
In the same vein I suggest checking out Supertramp’s « Another Man’s Woman », Live at Royal Albert Hall version (possibly only audio available?). Rick Davies’ solo is
Amazing in that one too.
Supertramp is just a tier above the rest, man. Ain't nothing quite like a Supertramp groove.
The great bands like Supertramp should never be forgotten.
Ya know, over the past decade Rush got the respect they always earned. But Supertramp needs the same amount of love.
@@TeeDOG6 Agreed
And never will they.
The Wurlitzer electric piano solo intro on Bloody Well Right is also superb.
Perhaps the most overlooked band in rock history. Your reaction to this reminds me of my own reaction when I first heard them. You have such a great journey ahead of you when you dig into the Supertramp catalogue.
Supertramp always gets my award for the most harmonically inventive band where you can't tell they're doing it.
Child of Vision has legitimately been one of my favorite songs for a while now. Supertramp is awesome. They rock, and the lyrics are top notch too.
Great reaction. thank you.
One of my favorite bands. The entire show is on UA-cam as separate songs. Definitely a great great show.
This has been my go-to song for starting a long drive down the highway. Everything around me disappears; leaving me with that piano groove, the road and the car. I am lost for 7.5 minutes and enjoy the drive without a care in the world…
Rick Davies‘ piano style Is so fantastic. I always found Rick Davies‘ contributation to Supertramp‘s unique music most essential.
I saw Supertramp live coming off of the Crime of the Century album in 1976 I believe. Jan Hammer opened for them. It was one of the best concerts I've ever attended. Sooooo damn good.

I saw them back then as well. Jan Hammer opened. It is easily one of the best concerts I've ever seen.
They had such huge pop hits that I fell like people sleep n what a ridiculously talented and skilled band they were.
You should check out Supertramp's live version of "Another Man's Woman". That has arguably Rick's greatest piano solo!!
Outstanding
Indeed
It is the Best
I’ve seen that and it was a standout to me. Very impressive, I like Another Man’s Woman even more since seeing that clip.
Man them boys made it so funky you could smell it. Dam.
Correct.
Along with Steely Dan, Supertramp is your favorite bands favorite band✌🤘!!...
Supertramp should be a required course in every college in America.
Supertramp knew how to jam!
Fantastic song, you listen to the studio version too, it is awsome.
Always loved Supertramp. First saw them summer 1979 in Jarry Park in Montreal.
Rick Davies on piano and Rodger Hodgens vocals and keyboards.
More Supertramp.
Me too except the day after in Ottawa. Jean-Luc Ponty was the opener. Salut!
And don't forget John Helliwell on sax/keys, Dougie Thomson on bass, and Bob Siebenberg on drums. Such a tight band.
Supertramp was huge in Canada. I mean in the late 70's this band was as popular as Rush. And you know this is saying a lot.
Hodgson
Been watching you for years Michael. Whenever I get into a band it feels like your there. Years can go by but yet there you pop up with that trademark enthusiasm. Educating and entertaining in equal measure. Keep doing what your doing. Much appreciated.
As a guitar player, I've never started taping my fingers to a keys Solo, thanks Michael
Your are welcome, love from the UK. xx
Supertramp... absolutely fantastic.. So many tunes, ...love it..😎😎
Michael, I love Supertramp and have for years. Try out Goodbye Stranger from the same consert. Rick Davies. So glad I saw them live in their heyday.
i never forget about the supertramp
"Take the Long Way Home" and "Logical Song" are two of the greatest songs in history by Supertramp. It's what I grew up on...
Don't forget the album "Crime of the Century".
Supertramp has sooo much to discover. They are a killer live band.
Child of vision & From now on are my favorite songs from Supertamp. What a band...
This is fantastic but the album version is even better!!!!
One of my favorite songs of all time.
Awesome!! I haven’t heard this song in years. I still have the 8 track that I purchased back during my high school days in the 70’s. Love Supertramp.
Absolutely, just amazing and tastefully done! It's amazing when you can see a band jam together like that and create some of the most memorable experiences! All working together with their own parts and letting each one shine in his/her own way! This is one outstanding performance! The man can rock the piano!
Yes!!!
It just occurred to me, Rick and Roger always had a rivalry, it drove an energy of brilliance unmatched!
@I Yam What I Yam! this doesn't even make any sense perhaps talking to your reflection
I have seen Supertramp in concert a few times, every time they have left me speechless. Rick Davies is the Stevie Ray Vaughan of the piano.
I most definitely agree with the blending of all the instruments and the way Supertramp does it makes you want for more.
Thanks for letting this ride!!! They were so before their time…
Seen many times in concert. Roger Hodgson as solo. Always awesome. Check out Rick Davies piano on Another Man's Woman live from It Was the Best of Times album. Will blow you away
A stupendous cut indeed.
Just when I thought he couldn't make me like any more songs that I already liked even more...he makes me loves songs that I've never heard before
Rick is a master !!! Bar NONE !!!! Unreal talent. For them to be only known for the radio “ hits” is a shame .
What a great band! "Even in the quietest moments" is a fantastic recording. Their music is layered, intricate...I guess you would call it subdivisions. Its interesting music and never trite!!
One of the best live albums ever!
New vinyl release of it coming out in Jan 2025 as part of the 50th anniversary of COTC series of projects.
My all time favourite piano track. Roger and Rick did have unusual arrangements that are also extremely infectious, they're similar to Bowie in that regard.
If you can find the live version of Another man’s woman from Something’s never change your you will here Rick at his best
Totally agree.
Yup
From Crisis What Crisis you mean.
@@gdavho8778 No, the live version.
@@mtebor Yeah I see what you mean now I guess it was the mistype on the word tour I missed.
Breakfast in America was my first tape. My dad bought it for me. Good stuff!
Awesome reaction, Michael. This is my favourite too... I'm amazed every single time revisiting this performance.
Get down w/Supertramp on a Saturday morning! Yeah, thanks MP.

Gotta love those jazz phrasings and blue notes on the piano by Rick Davies. Happy Saturday and Peace from Toronto!
John Helliwell (sax) is interviewed several times on UA-cam. Interesting behind the scenes info.
