I have the same motor but in a 10 horse. The motor sat for 5 years before I bought it and would not idle. You have to break down and clean the carb with carb cleaner. There are two critical areas. Clean the emulsion tube. To get my emulsion tube out I had to spray carb cleaner in it and let it soak for 2 hours before I could pop it out with a flat head screwdriver. Once it's out take a small wire and run it through all the holes. Another area to be sure to clean is the throat of the throttle body. Take a magnifying glass and you'll find 3 very small holes inside the throat itself. Mine were clogged shut. After the clean out, my honda 10 horse ran and idled like it was brand new. Hopes this helps someone.

I know it was long time ago but could you tell me please, when I unscrew the cover on fuel pump, should I see the screen there? Is it removable or is it very deep? My motor is mounted so I can not see too deep inside that hole but I see nothing there

Be sure to add a inline fuel filter. My honda runs great. When cleaning the carb do a good job with it and do a complete carb rebuild. If you have to big of a boat dont full throttle bog down the engine as it can fowl plugs.

10 minutes of run time before failure leads me to think the motor is overheating or you have a small air leak in the fuel system. If the cooling system (water pump) is not pumping water through the engine, the engine will overheat and stop running after a while. Check for a tell-tale or pee stream coming out of the motor. Feel the water to see if it's hot or warm. Check the paint on the engine and see if it's smoking or starting to peel off -- a sure sign of overheating. In the case of an air leak in your fuel system, you would need to check all fuel lines and all seals from the fuel tank all the way through to the carburetor. Even a small air leak can mess up engine operation. The fact that full throttle seems to bog down may either be a secondary problem or a carburetor issue (running too lean or too rich). Sounds like you've got a tough one on your hands.

My emulsion tube is stuck. How did you get it out with a flat blade-- ie. Did you pry it down into the bowl from the carb body?

Same problem. I pulled the back screw off but wish you show how to put the plastic part out. I dont want to force it out. How does it come out?
Fuel pump doesn’t run on case pressure it runs off the cam shaft

good job man but the fuel pump run on the camshaft and the idle mixture spec is only a starting point you need to see wear in runs best
