I was jig SL. When you run across people with good comms in the game add them for later. "Honey come quick! Commander Crane has a new video out!" Great content as always, dude. I know you're taking a bit of a hiatus, but the community appreciate what you do.
I've taken commander role three times and won all three, largely due to videos like this. Of course, I was also fortunate to have great teams. But I'm always learning and improving, and your content has helped a lot. Thanks!
Honestly, this is a great guide that I'll be sending friends for just overall fantastic information. The ultimate Hell Let Loose guide. Thank you for this.
Best way to learn is get in the seat and give it a few games. Like he said, announce you are new and are open to any tips along the way. Take the criticism and learn. I always asked if there was anything I could improve on after my first games in the role and got better each time!
Great guide! I was already doing mostly the same but I learned a few new tricks. Thank you!! And as you said, sometimes you can do everything right and still loose. And there's games where you don't do much ( squads bring their own supports and supply trucks and set everything themselves ) and you win easily. It's a team effort.
The content and lessons in this are really good, and it's the best "this is what to do" guide for commander rather than a "here's all the buttons" guide that I've seen. For example, I'm an experienced com, and I've never thought to leave the default supply truck alone to enable passive helpers, instead my though process was "free truck, it'll cost the team less if I take it"; which I realise isn't taking advantage of how players play this game. I think with some more editing and illustration; particularly on the map concepts you could have made this more concise (say 40mins) and easy to follow without any loss of message.
Really appreciate you making this. Always enjoyed watching you, and have learned a ton! Wish you the best and looking forward to seeing more commander videos (when you have time)
Just to clarify a bit, When the enemy has started to cap your final point, the HQ directly behind it is unavailable to spawn on, so for example if Flak battery on SME is being capped, you will not be able to spawn on the Top HQ. The way to manage this is to make sure you have supplies on or near the top HQ (or the HQ behind the final point) and if you lose the mid cap and the next point is being pushed, make sure you build a backup Garry on or near the HQ, so you give the team the opportunity to contest the last point.
One of the most awesome things about this vid is that I never realized you could drive the truck through walls and over some of the stuff he drives through in this vid. lol
people usually run in a straight line between the two points of contention. if you set up a flanking garrison, usually as they die they will spawn on it. leaving you without a frontline which is why casual server games fall apart. commander needs to communicate what squads or how many should spawn from what flanking garrison or halftrack. if you have most of the points on one side/top or bottom then building a garrison 600m away from the nearest point will do more damage to your team than the enemies. without team mates within the 4 tiles around either defensive or offensive point they arent doing anything constructive. only people that should be out there is recon, commander even a squad leader or two to do a proper flank to come in behind the offensive point and set something up just inside the limit. halftracks you can park and ready up deep into enemy territory and once the point is taken and the tiles turn blue it will be available to spawn from. for example utah beach as axis. i have driven the halftrack into the back of one of the u.s ships and activated it. once we were on their last point everyone just spawned from the halftrack as they died or redeployed and walked out behind the last point. game over.
Good points. I always try to tell people which garrison needs more spawns, that usually works. You need that constant frontline, otherwise the enemy just walks into your sector.
Since those grenades are new and I rarely play as the British, I actually did not know that. That is something that probably should be patched though, to be consistent with the game.
Manpower - Everytime someone dies you lose 1 manpower, keep that in mind if you want to encourage. Supply Trucks - Cheapest why to get garrys, 100 fuel for 2. Ammo Drops - Should be used only when on offence (Assulting a strong point) in an area where a garry is not present but AT's will need ammo. Half-tracks - can be placed in the 200 meter radius of other garrys making it a force multiplier. On defense they are a counter to Recon because Recon has no answer to it beyond calling in a precision strike which is an amazing trade because that's a 20min cooldown. On Offence their lockout meter radius is less then garrys. I believe it's only 50m vs 100m. Jeeps - Fastest Vehicle in the game by far Heavy Tanks - No solo tankers (Sorry not sorry it's 600 fuel) How to win - It always take 2mins to cap a point to matter if your ahead by 1 cap weight or 10. Spotter Flairs - are you best friend and can give you amazing strafing run targets for cheap.
Awesome video as always thanks for putting this together. You play mostly with your HUD off how do you know if a sector is being captured/cap weight without having that up or do you just pull it up quickly once in a while to look? I'm guessing for cap weight you need to be in the circle/ask a friendly but you seem to just know without having a HUD
I always play squad leader but I've wanted to see what Commander was like. That said, I didn't know how any of the controls would work so I didn't want to botch anyone's game. Last night I joined a game with no commander and as the opponent was starting to take our last point, I told my buddy to take squad lead when I left. We were still in party chat but I took Commander and figured out how to get a supply drop off point and told my buddy to build a gary. I saw blueberries moving west to the old point so I called in a recon, found where the enemy was and ordered that Russian rocket strike on them, followed by an airhead to the West of the old point. At that point I went to game chat and told everyone I didn't know what I was doing but at this point we have to try something. We ended up winning 4-1 so it was a rush. I found that commander is NOTHING like squad lead but I have worked as an IT SR. Project Manager for 10 years so I realized it was a similar role in terms of helping to herd cats and stay on course. I somehow got a W and 3 commendations so it wasn't terrible. I did have some criticism and rather than argue, I just agreed and advised on what I was trying to do. Nobody got hot and overall, it was a kind of fun. I wish I could have practiced the controls first though. I'm on Xbox so I could see where a mouse would be less clunky. Last note - I couldn't deliver supplies in the truck. I got picked off or blown up 3 times so I stopped trying. It could have been the fact that the enemy was all over the map due to me joining and taking command very late in the game. Also, pay attention to your old points. I found I had a squad that liked to defend but I had to keep reminding them when to leave an old point to get up to the current one.
That game is a perfect example how garrisons are not suppose to be built. Don't expect from your commander to build every single garrison . If you dont plan to build gerries dont play SL in first place :)
