The instruments here really did kind of hold the musicians here back a bit. I would love to hear Dina on a great piano. The poor father! Finding out your kid needs a better cello at this level . . . . There have been a few great performances in this UA-cam series. This is a performance where I would love to have a CD. So please, Mr. Lee and Ms. Vainshtein, when you release the CD of your performance of this Cello Concerto, please announce it here. I will be one of the first to purchase it. Thank you for a GREAT performance!!
Watching Maestro Zander's master class is always an enriching experience. The life he brings to the music and the utmost dignity with which he treats those young talents is truly inspiring. This particular master class was no different, if not more captivating. Hearing the firsthand account of the first performance of this masterpiece was simply 'wow'. I wish Brian Lee all the best and hope to eventually watch a recording of him playing with the full orchestra.
Thanks loads for the video, Ben. Your energy-level is terrific and a gritty dare to any young musician sitting next to you. David went from playing nicely to expressing it all (terror, flight, fighting spirit etc.) and now I'm exhausted. Glad you took off his glasses before the last screams. Thanks to the musicians, Brian and Dina.
Thank you for explaining … Shostakovich to me! (I accidentally bumped into his music at a recent concert by the LSO at Megaron (violin #1 concerto). This was followed by listening to Isserlis UA-cam performance of this cello concerto, that has been … haunting me ever since. Now I know why. Surely one can tell that Shch’s work is a breakthrough in music.
Finally, an interpretation class on Shostakovich! ❤

No orchestra,no conductor so why list them at the bottom of this video? WHY?
