Never a Yes fan but I could listen to Rick Wakeman all day. A natural story teller and from other videos I have seen could have been a decent stand up comedian!
Agree completely about stand-up comedian; a good example is Rick's acceptance speech at the induction of Yes into the R'N'R Hall of Fame...true understated British humor.

Indeed. Despite, the fact that Steve Howe will always be my guitar guru, Rick was the only one that wouldn't go on when Jon got ill. I can relate to that, as I was playing in a band back in 2000 and got cancer. Everyone except the drummer was willing to wait for my recovery, which is something that will always stick with me. I saw Rick maybe a decade ago in Buffalo when he was doing a solo tour. It was a great show; beyond the music, he is obviously one funny guy. He's a complete class act.

I never knew much about Rick as a teenager, or even later. I play keys and started 'performing' at 16 y.o. in 1972. I kind of dismissed Rick as being a bit showy and rocky. Everybody has a story and I used to work in a pub serving tables where bands played. What a musical education. I got my chance when the keyboard [organ player] got sick and I was pulled from the floor to backing huge cabaret stars, with someone else's organ. At 62, I'm still backing the 'stars' [lol], I only recently discovered Rick when he appeared on "The Genius of Mrs Mills", a BBC documentary, and then again with another BBC series "Grumpy Old Men". I am in awe of this man's talent which is highlighted by his down to earth manner. I'd give anything for a beer with Rick. Way to go Rick. We're all Grumpy Old Men now! I never had my own Vox Continental, though I've played them. For me, Farfisa was all the rage, until I discovered Roland.
Thank God for Rick's personality. After being devastated by Greg, Keith and Chris....I will be destroyed if we loose Rick. Actually, losing these guys is like losing my older brothers. Think about that. Such an empty feeling.

Rick bought a Minimoog synthesizer at half price from actor Jack Wild, who thought that it was defective because it only played one note at a time. lol I can just imagine Rick taking a sharp intake of breath and saying " It looks broke but I will do YOU a favour etc" :) He was the first musician to suss out the Mellotron and those great Producers like Tony Visconti and Gus Dudgeon asked him how he got it to work but he kept quiet as they then HAD to employ him if they wanted that sound. I have learned that it was RICK who played those fabulous notes on Space Oddity....
Funny ......The only 'famous' musician person l REALLY DO pray for is The Wakemans! l don't know why, but as soon as l learned about Nina Carter, and Rick going hard for The Lord, l was THRILLED! Rick has always been, a magnetic, charismatic, talented, funny, and compassionate dude! His music has _FILLED_ us with Joy! God gave him a talent .....and the fruit he produced was good! Surprised he said "this lineup far & away is the best YES lineup he's ever been in". Really, Rick? Even better than the "classic" lineup of Anderson, Bruford (or White), Wakeman, Howe, and Squire in their prime? Having been to many YES jaw dropping concerts with the classic lineup and having attended 90125 concerts, and close attention to the various stages of YES over the years, and mostly seeing the rust (on Trevor Rabin in particular) of ARW, with all due respect this claim regarding ARW being the "best YES lineup" seems a stretch. I'm glad he'e having fun though.
The bottom line is: You can´t sing about humanity and ethics and ignore very serious health problems on the other and say: show must go on. Music is much more than business and that´s why I appreciate Rick´s point of view. And by the way: ARW are a much better band than Howe´s and Squire´s so called Yes. No doubt about that.

I got a chance to meet Rick,and this is was exactly what he was like,funny and down to earth,let alone the best prog rock keyboardist in my opinion.
I admire both Rick’s huge contribution to Yes (God’s Paradisal musicians) and his brilliant solo career with Orchestras.
