  • A truly historic moment for the facts that this was ...
    (1) The first live performance of "Kashmir" by Robert Plant since Led Zeppelin reunion concert at O2 Arena nearly 10 years ago ...
    (2) The first time Nigel Kennedy and Robert Plant played together in 24 years since Nigel joined Robert on stage to perform "Calling To You" at a couple of warm up gigs at the Kings Arms pub in Fulham back in May 1993 ...
    (3) The first time ever Robert Plant performed a complete live version of "Kashmir" without Jimmy Page !!!
    Original footage provided by Peter Chow, our correspondent in London UK
    This stunning performance is the final part of a special gala concert headlined by Nigel Kennedy which featured special guest performers on top of his own band and orchestra; a few names among them that are of special interest to rock fans include French virtuoso violinist Jean-Luc Ponty who was a member in the second incarnation of Mahavishnu Orchestra between 1974-76, Doug Boyle who was in Robert Plant's band between 1987-92, and Lizzie Ball who toured with Jeff Beck between 2013-14.
    Those interested to further learn what else happened on the night can follow this link for a review of the complete concert written by acclaimed Led Zeppelin author Dave Lewis ...

      even though he tours a lot, he does not really push and sings soft versions of the classics but he can still belt it out if he wants. Last time I saw him 5 or 6 years ago he played rain song and lemon song, both of which he nailed.

      Jesus no. Disrespecting Kashmir and morphing it into something it isn't sure. "Stunning" maybe in the sense of a cattle being prodded with an electric prod. Either way, I couldn't make it through it just like I can't stand the Unledded 94 version which is just a disaster on all levels with the Black Dog riff at the end. UGH.
      This is Plant's tendancy to rape, yes RAPE Zep songs and people still praise him for it when he strips the heart and soul of out of them. Zeppelin deserves respect ala Mozart and Beethoven. Not wish-washy rearrangements because Percy has a wild hair.

    • @Justleonyuri
      @Justleonyuri 7 років тому +7

      Stephanie Sandlin Oi, calm down. It's his song and even if you like the studio version better, He's in his right to rearrange it and reinterpret. If it's not of your fancy, just listen the one on the record.

    • @Justleonyuri
      @Justleonyuri 7 років тому +1

      whittiestpenguin Man, I'd rather see an artist try new things on an old tune, than just emulate the original recording for ages.
      we gotta respect Plant's will on refresh his Zeppelin days' songs with different arrangements. it's not that it's better or worse, it is that he's trying what he feels best for the song.

    • @jhamblin23
      @jhamblin23 7 років тому +1

      whittiestpenguin for everyone reading this, this man makes many false statements. his argument is invalid.

    • @zoso1980
      @zoso1980 7 років тому

      Oh how cute the inevitable "Plant can do whatever he wants" from the people who think Plant is the best. Sure he can do what he wants, but he kills the sound and it's soul. That's the problem, any of his Zep 'reinterpretations' have killed what made the songs great. If you respected the essential depth of Zeppelin and see it turned into bad karaoke, you'd be on board with this criticism. But again, it seems this point Leon flies 2 miles over your head. Zeppelin deserves respect, not grafting Black Dog into the end of Kashmir for example. Plant just shows his an amateur doing stunts like this with Zep. Leon, you make me laugh with your lack of spine on this issue." Let me guess passive music fan? BTW - I prefer Kashmir LIVE. Many great versions from 1979 and 1980.
      Whittestpenguin, you get it. Keep preaching. Plant has always been the musical weak link. Even JPJ called him at one point in the 1980s "unmelodic tone poems." Indeed, that's why he is constantly cycling through bands and musicians. He can't make the sounds so he has to buffalo people to make the sounds he wants. They want to get paid, so they do it. Working with a "rock God" too. Plant is no God, without Zep he'd been nothing. If he passed on Zep in 68, he'd have had a few more attempts at music, then would've faded away. He was always had the voice, but the vision was Page, JPJ and Bonham. Plant still is the musical weak link. Stupid, weak and amateurish reworkings prove this point. Bonham would slap him methinks.
      Page is done some decent stuff post Zep, but the creative environment he needs he's never been able to replicate. It has lead to many false starts and stoppages. The tune "Crackback" between Page and JPJ on the Scream For Help (1985) movie soundtrack is amazing. The stuff with Coverdale had some fine moments. Then came 1994, Unledded with Plant and stupidity that Plant forces on the music made it terrible mess. Zeppelin material isn't adult-lite. Egyptian orchestra? Self indulgent crap. Page would've never done it on his own. Plant forced that on him. In 1998, when Jimmy wanted to rock again, Plant bolted. Even Walking Into Clarksdale really sucked. Plant again forced Jimmy to be subdued and it sucked for it.
      Am a Plant basher? No, I just recognize that his musical vision is amateurish. His rearranging of Zep tunes are bad comedy and worse than his oft statements that he doesn't want to be a oldies artist. No, he's not an oldies artist, he's a flippant singer who thinks he defecates gold. I will always remember that the 1994-1998 period could've been so good not for Plant's desire to rip the soul and power from the songs. That power MAKES the songs.
      But Leon wants to make excuses and give him a pass. Such a shame.

      @@arthurdduda8233- I think what the poster means is that Robert's vocal quality is better than in 2007, in which I would have to agree. Without a doubt, Kashmir circa 2007 rocked, but Robert has a more 'open' voice now. It almost sounds like he's using an operatic technique when he sings 'wasted land' during this rendition.
      Plant's timbre has changed from 07, but he's arguably the best he has ever been, not because he can scream very high, but because he can change gears at the drop of a hat. To my ears, Robert has massively expanded his dynamics to suit the synthesis of music that he now creates and pursues.

      Rock may roll over but it will never die!
      They say that as we grow older, beauty moves to the inside, so think of how beautiful we are.
      Robert and I are the same age and I'm not old yet heehee!

    I dont understand why Robert is avoiding Page, are they not friends anymore ? Its kind of sad...Robert still have amazing voice but I think it would do him no harm to play at least occasional gig with his old pals (including JPJ) .

      Very true. Robert Plant has never been one to shy away from other musical styles and experimentation. That's part of his appeal. I can honestly say I have thoroughly loved every single album he has ever put out, without exception. Even his weakest works are lightyears ahead of most other people's stuff.

    Re the above comments... Forget not that the wonderful Jean-Luc Ponty also appeared on the masterpiece Hot Rats, the wonderful album by Frank Zappa , back in 1969
