The people voted for the AfD, hoping for change, yet they ended up with a CDU government that feels corrupt, toothless, and more radically left-leaning than what Thuringia had before. During summer a roadside mower gets attached, during winter a snow plow/blower - that's what I've seen in the bavarian village I lived in for 11 years... There are also brushes for street cleaning or roadside marker cleaning (these things went flying sometimes when the brush was rotating too fast) also there are shredders for trees/branches/bushes - well... that shows how universal the Unimog really is...
That Unimog ist the andvanced Version of U 404 fom the early 50ies. U 416 is from the early 1970ies. This and the 435 Series of the 80ies are the best ones for Offroad. No elektronics only mechanic at its best.
There is a saying in Germany, with a unimog you can get stuck at places and inclines, you can only dream of getting with anything else short of a helicopter. And you're still not in trouble - you have a unimog. You have hydraulic winches 😏
The "little" Unimog (as shown) is amazing. We had it in my period of service in the Bundeswehr. It really was amazing. Rather small but almost no off road-terrain could really stop it. A great thing was that it had an additional manual accelerator close to the steering wheel.
The comparison becomes even more unreasonable when considering that the Unimog is a true product of German engineering, while the Humvee originates from the USA. The Unimog represents German craftsmanship, known for precision, durability, and versatility. In contrast, the Humvee was primarily designed for military purposes, often focusing on short-term robustness rather than decades of reliability. This clearly highlights that the Unimog not only excels in functionality but also embodies the values and standards of German manufacturing-a clear advantage over its American counterpart.
Don't forget, there are 37 years of vehicle development between the two vehicles! Year of construction Unimog 404 from 1955 Year of construction Hummer H1 from 1992 The Unimog 404, as shown here, was only the successor to the 402. It was built from 1951 to 1956 as the “Ochsenkopf-Mercedes Type 2010” and then from 1953 as the “Unimog 402” (“Universal Motor Gerät”) and only had a more powerful engine and a different track width. In other words, the development was even 41 years apart!
This flex track was somewhat of a warm-up for the Unimog. No matter which version. Because that's what it was specifically designed for. The Hummer had a completely different design goal, with off-road capability being not even a far second. So to be fair comparing these two in this setting is pretty much the apples and oranges comparison. Both are off-road capable vehicles / fruits but that's about it. One is a work-horse of a utility vehicle, the other is a vehicle designed for the US army to transport personnel in and out of combat zones. That the German Bundeswehr aquired the Unimog for at least one of the same purposes is another thing. The Unimog doesn't do the job of carrying armed personnel into and out of combat zones very well but it will work in a pinch. You will have very well shaken, not stirred, soldiers in the back if you go off-roading with them on the platform. Certainly better than slogging through mud, but not by much.
The UNIMOG, an acronym for UNIversal-MOtor-Gerät (roughly translated into English as "Universal Motor Device"), has been built continuously since 1949. To this day, with the current models, it stands for an incredible range of possible uses. A fantastic, useful vehicle - even if you still have older models in use.
The HMMWV took 70 seconds to complete the test track, while the UNIMOG passed it in 60 seconds. That's how Blitzkrieg works! Just kidding. 🙂 .... it came afterwards.
The Unimog 404 that I drove during my time as a conscript in military service (Bundeswehr) was almost indestructible. Even a jump down of almost 2 meter (about 6,5 ft) in a muddy terrain during an off-road trip had no effect except covering the lower parts in mud. Also a moderate collision with a tree only made a small dent ... in the tree. Sgt: "Turn around by reversing into the dirt road. ... Why are you stopping?" Me: "There is a tree behind us." Sgt: "There is no tree." Me: "Sir, yes, Sir, no tree!" ("Jawoll Herr Unteroffizier, kein Baum!") Unfortunately the tree did not obey. ☺
I’d choose an Mercedes-Unimog over a Humvee any day. It is a ultimate workhorse for farming, forestry, and ranching. Originally developed in the 1950s, the Unimog has continually evolved, maintaining its position as a leader in off-road capability, versatility, and durability. Its ability to climb steep hills, combined with its rugged build and multi-functional design, makes it indispensable in tough environments. It performs consistently, reliable in extreme cold and heat, always delivering the same performance regardless of the weather. The greatest thing about the Unimog is its simplicity-it’s easy to repair, requires minimal maintenance, and is always ready for the task at hand. While it's slow, loud, and lacks modern comforts, it remains highly effective in the 2020s and beyond, proving its timeless value. Honestly, I can't think of another wheeled tool-aside from the Unimog-that offers this level of versatility without needing chains.
Who did better? Unimog, hands down. The Humvee was struggling with traction, the driver could only keep driving by using the trick with the brakes. The Unimog? He went through the course with barely a shrug, probably due to its set if 100% diff locks.
KJ restores old UniMogs. And he is a dane, so the proper salutation would be "hej" or "go' dag" and "farvel" or "vi ses" to bid farewell. OR you say "møjn" when coming and/or leaving.
The veteran (intro in 1975) Unimog is outclassing the much more modern Hummer (intro 1992). Try again with an Unimog from 1992. ua-cam.com/video/cXssyNQ0G-o/v-deo.html
You can order a new Unimog as a real 'Offroad-Monster', a Beauty. The Price isn't that beautifull 😢, but if You can afford it, then it's worth every Penny.
Not sure whether or not humvee is the actual parallel, comparable vehicle. Unimog is not the standard military vehicle, as far as I know, but more advanced, special forces, mountain terrain vehicle, I think. Not been to any military, correct me if I am wrong.
At the beginning of the 1990s, many of this type with a radio structure were decommissioned because of asbestos. They were such sweethearts from the late 60's and 70's... But the comparison is unfair: the Unimog is more of a (small) truck (more load) . And the trick, the high ground clearance thanks to the gearbox implementation in the wheel axle... difficult to describe. The "axle" is significantly above the center of the wheel.
You mean the portal axle. There is a single-stage offset gear in the wheel carriers that allows the vehicle axle to be raised or lowered. This increases the ground clearance in off-road vehicles, and lowers the vehicle floor in low-floor buses. I myself drove the Unimog with box body as a medical vehicle in the German army in 1969/70. Where we went through off-road, only a tank could get behind us at most.

That comparison is honostly not fair at all. The Humvy is an ofroad car. The Unimog is an offroad truck. Both vehicles were made with highly different requirements. So, at the end, this comparison is just nonsense. The German "Humvy" is the "Wolf", so the military version of Mercedes G-Wagon. And the Wolf cannot reach the capabilities of the Humvy. A more likely German military model to the Humvy would be the "Fennek". That would really be an interesting comparison.

Year of construction Unimog 404 from 1955
Year of construction Hummer H1 from 1992
The Unimog 404, as shown here, was only the successor to the 402. It was built from 1951 to 1956 as the “Ochsenkopf-Mercedes Type 2010” and then from 1953 as the “Unimog 402” (“Universal Motor Gerät”) and only had a more powerful engine and a different track width. In other words, the development was even 41 years apart!
I didn't know that "UNIversal MOtor Gerät" is the abbreviation of Unimog. Translated to English it would be Unimode - Universal Motor Device.😄
The Danish Army really should consider bringing back the Unimog in to their ranks.....
And you have the Pinzgauer and Haflinger, also cool design and very effective.
The HMMWV took 70 seconds to complete the test track, while the UNIMOG passed it in 60 seconds. That's how Blitzkrieg works!
Just kidding. 🙂 .... it came afterwards.
OK, I understand the joke, but there is still some truth behind it, reliability is often "faster" than speed.
The Mercedes-Benz Unimog holds the world record for the highest altitude driven by a wheeled vehicle, reaching 21,962 feet (6,694 meters).
Kommt ja auch nicht aus Preussen ;)
@@sophiaherschel567 Tja, Norddeutschland hat ... den Bungsberg als Berg. Da braucht es nicht so viel.... ;)
Sgt: "Turn around by reversing into the dirt road. ... Why are you stopping?"
Me: "There is a tree behind us."
Sgt: "There is no tree."
Me: "Sir, yes, Sir, no tree!" ("Jawoll Herr Unteroffizier, kein Baum!")
Unfortunately the tree did not obey. ☺
Zwei coole ,robuste Fahrzeuge.
Ungefähr so? 😂
@@michaelhugo2460 😂😂😂😂 made my day
I’d choose an Mercedes-Unimog over a Humvee any day.
We already had this Unimog model in the Bundeswehr in 1968
Unimog for win by 10 seconds and a better ride
Unimog is the best. German engineering.
Who did better? Unimog, hands down. The Humvee was struggling with traction, the driver could only keep driving by using the trick with the brakes. The Unimog? He went through the course with barely a shrug, probably due to its set if 100% diff locks.
It´s important, which versions they are testing!
HMMWV is really good, but Unimog is better.
KJ restores old UniMogs.
And he is a dane, so the proper salutation would be "hej" or "go' dag" and "farvel" or "vi ses" to bid farewell. OR you say "møjn" when coming and/or leaving.
In September 1965, production of the U416 began.
The Hummer I really love. But it's good in a different field. It was constructed to replace the Jeep.
My 1962 Unimog S404 ex army truck was extremely funny to drive. 😁
Can I get a ride in it? :oD
@@SimonRaahauge1973 Sure. You just have to locate the guy who bought it from me in 2004, fly to Germany and convince him. 😁

The veteran (intro in 1975) Unimog is outclassing the much more modern Hummer (intro 1992). Try again with an Unimog from 1992. ua-cam.com/video/cXssyNQ0G-o/v-deo.html
this is Unimog S 404 (1955 bis 1980)
My father drove a Unimog like that on 1965
unimog is really great. amlost as versatile as tanks in field ;) we drove them on the same track and its almost impossibe to stuck with them
If you would Like to use more there is a Video vom am museum where only are unimogs

Lo: Luftgekühlter Ottomotor (Benzin).

Dem Unimog ebenbürtig.
Und mehr Platz in der Fahrerkabine.
You can order a new Unimog as a real 'Offroad-Monster', a Beauty. The Price isn't that beautifull 😢, but if You can afford it, then it's worth every Penny.
The G Model is the Hummer of the German Army
Not sure whether or not humvee is the actual parallel, comparable vehicle. Unimog is not the standard military vehicle, as far as I know, but more advanced, special forces, mountain terrain vehicle, I think. Not been to any military, correct me if I am wrong.
The unimog wins!
I guess that there are no comparison to this unbelieveble vehicle…😁

and now the whole thing with a new Unimog with an experienced driver from the Unimog test track ua-cam.com/video/cXssyNQ0G-o/v-deo.html
Unimog.....nothing else....
The Unimog was much better. It's also a bit unfair to comp these 2 as the Unimog is a truck and not an jeep/truck like the Hummer
it is a older modell
That comparison is honostly not fair at all.
The Humvy is an ofroad car. The Unimog is an offroad truck.
Both vehicles were made with highly different requirements.
So, at the end, this comparison is just nonsense.
The German "Humvy" is the "Wolf", so the military version of Mercedes G-Wagon. And the Wolf cannot reach the capabilities of the Humvy.
A more likely German military model to the Humvy would be the "Fennek". That would really be an interesting comparison.
...where is the problem?😊
The UN iversal MO tor G erät is the the best

I think your reaction videos are very nice because you like to watch German videos about everything, be it football, technology and a lot of other things, especially the fire department or blue lights. I would be happy if you watch 2 and give a reaction about them Do that one is an exercise by the fire department and SEG (rapid intervention group)
and the other a field fire that got out of control!. I was there for this mission because it could have been worse.
I would be really happy if you watch the 2 videos LG Felix
