When I was 21 I had a 67 roadster red with chrome wire wheels it was beautiful ...I thought I was the best thing that ever rolled out on the road 😀 I loved that car it just loved money more than it loved me 😂

There are no "chrome wire wheels". If the wheel is "chrome" it has spokes and spokes are never "wire".

My dad had a 1972 V12, luckily we didn’t have the horrible over riders in the UK, it was the manual version.
I was 17 at the time, so it was my job to look after it, so as it was 2 years old it was time for a plug change.
I climbed onto the engine and changed the plugs between my legs.
They were always prone to hose leaks, my reward for looking after it? I got to drive it every couple of weeks !
It was the 2 plus 2 version, I’ve checked on the DVLA web site in the UK, it’s still on its original plate and still running.

    • @deeremeyer1749
      @deeremeyer1749 11 місяців тому

Yeah. After only 5 "full restorations" and probably 90% of the original car has been "renewed". At a minimum. More likely the only thing "original" is the "plate".

There are still a ton of differences between a 61 and a 64 3.8 series 1… cut outs behind the seats for more room is one , and obviously no flat floors , black dash not metal. Rear axle arms are thicker , silver wish bones vs black , the lost goes on and on and on . The late 67-69 series 1 (know as 1.25 to 1.5) had various differences apart from open headlamps, all 68 series 1 4.2’s had series 2 interior and black cam covers like a series 2 .. 67 cars still had series 1 interior but with open headlamps toggles and polished covers .
Also they changed the flat floors in early 62’ but kept didn’t have the cut outs still behind the seats until late 63.. Iv got a RHD 62’ it’s a flat floor tub but with wells, have restored over 25 E’s from outside lock cars to 67 series 1/5

I had a 1972 V 12 Coupe . Never lug the engine keep up the revs in slow traffic keep it in a lower gear ! Never had a problem , and move the electronic ignition up front near the fans to keep it cool. Cheers Chris

I never understood why so many people where bashing the series 3 XKE . As you correctly stated it is a very desirable car. The wider stance suits the car well.
The Engine pulls willingly and powerful from Idle on; prominently resonating around 1250 and 2500 revs.
In fact of all E-types the V12 were the least build. So good V12s with LHD, manual shifter and AC are quite rare.

Having owned a 1970 Series 2 when in my 20s, I can attest it was the best of times and the worst of times. The worst aspect was it was built by British Leyland, where management and labor were locked in a battle to the death. Though a sound design overall, shoddy assembly and badly produced outsourced parts, like the Lucas electrics, made these cars (1968-1974) terminally unreliable.
As a hard-core sports car buff, I was disappointed with my Series 2. Of course it was beautiful, that came with the territory. And it made good power. But in the twisties it felt like an understeering pig compared with my 1600 cc Alfa Romeo Duetto.
Though I had a British non-dealer service shop, the car nickel and dimed me to the point I where had to sell it. Some 40 years later and in retirement, I still drive a sports car -- one that would run circles around any series E-Type. It's a current generation Mazda MX-5, the greatest sports car I've ever driven.
For those shopping E-Types, bear in mind they had zero rust protection, they do not perform like modern cars, and their value has been artificially raised by a recent trend of car buying among the wealthy, one that is unlikely to last.
This was a mass produced car, rushed out of the factory in the tens of thousands to meet overwhelming demand, and not in the league of Ferraris or Astons of their time. In my opinion, though I acknowledge them to be the most beautiful sports car ever, I think the six-figure price tags on these cars is undeserved.

@ 2 mins. The Federal Government had no business at all in demanding all those things. It's just really the beginning of the so-called "Nanny State" where somehow the government was supposed to take over the job of protecting you instead of you doing that for yourself, as it was like forever before that. The beginning of the end of individual liberty.

3.5" bias-ply "Model A" tires and wheels have better "feel" because you'll find the "limits" of the tires and wheels before the "limits" of the chassis and powertrain and you'll "break loose" the tires before you break powertrain parts or your heart when you realize how "limited" the suspension and chassis and powertrain really are when "pushed hard". "Radials" will make the car "feel" like the lead-sled underpowered ill-handling slug it is.

Here's the best "Buyer's Guide" of all when it comes to an E Type Jag. DON'T. You'll get 1000% more enjoyment looking at somebody else's than you will actually owning one yourself. Once you make the fatal mistake of ownership, you're toast. You will pray for a migraine headache because it will be less painful in the long run than owning a E Jag. Things that you'd never imagined could go wrong...DO...and at the worst possible times. Yeah, yeah, yeah...I know. They are so beautiful. I agree. If you do the ultimate in stupidity and buy one, first thing to do is make a chart. Draw a horizontal line and then a vertical line from there straight down and in the center of the horizontal line winding up with two columns. Label each column. On the left write "TIME SPENT ENJOYING JAG" and on the other side write "TIME SPENT REPAIRING JAG". Don't bother with a third column labeled "COST OF OWNERSHIP". If you do that, you just might think about...well...I won't say it. After one whole year, tally up the left side and the right side. When you do that, you will understand why I posted this PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT..

According to Babvven laws, sadly soon all combustion cars and trucks including classics will be banned from public streets in entire EU and Scandinavia :-(
In Germany the Green Peoples Party gave order to shorten fuel supply from 2025
on by reducing all conventional fuel stations to only one state operated central gas station per city or county. Car washs will be forbidden too because they are climate killers, now they want to slow down all the gas station pumps from 20 litre per minute to 2 litre per minute...From 2027 on in the EU certain car spare parts will be banned too....as exhaust systems, turbo chargers and even some engine and gearbox oils...California and New York will do the same from 2027 on.... So no investments should be done in oil burning cars any longer....They even created a new kind of crime here, called emissions and smoke crime
