I feel like psychologically it would be better if you just told your older child that they will be having a younger brother or sister… rather than telling them that they will have a sibling (without specifying) and letting their imagination choose which they prefer… i feel like the second option has potential to start an unneeded emotional battle between the older and newest born even if it’s subconscious
Then again, it's also good to teach your child how to deal with disappointment and unmet expectations

@@valko6615 hmm you’re right… so i guess it just comes down to making sure the older sibling learns to cope with disappointment either way, gender reveal party or not. but i still think that should be learned before the announcement of a younger sibling to have less risk i suppose… i don’t have kids so i don’t know i’m just guessing for if i do

I was 5 when my little sister was being born so I remember, me and my siblings were betting on whether it would be a boy or girl and I got super invested in having a little brother, pretty much we have a picture on a shelf of me holding my little sister while very disappointed and smiling

I know lots of families who did it during COVID-19 just to give themselves something to look forward to and something fun to do. I just wish people wouldn't go so extreme with it.
