This is great! What a first run! I started running 3 months ago and am down from 30 mins to 24:30, sub 20 is a life long goal for me and I'm determined to do it! Best of luck alan! 👍
@JOG ON with Harry Morgan Well I finally hit a sub 20 by running 19:58 at the Howletts 5K today, and shortly after the race I saw someone with one of your jog on caps! It made me think of this video that was one of the first to inspire me all those months ago to achieve this goal. Thanks so much Harry! ❤️
@Chris Wilding amazing Chris! That's brilliant progress! Do let us know how you get on 😊, I'm sure you'll hit it in no time and I hope the knee is better
Another inspirational video, Harry! I too know Alan’s pain, I used to run into the teens in the 5k in college before a knee injury and three years of later after much training I returned to run a 20:01. I’ve got another race coming up soon and should break 20 with time to spare but it has been great motivation for months of training since.
Great job, I knew from the second he said 5k it was the 20 minute mark I was trying the same target and my PB was 20.04 too and I got it down to 19.55 (back to back weekend races). Tips that worked for me 1) Run it during an actual race. The nervousness of the race will give you a boost in energy plus you get a banana for your hard work. 2) Run it on a race that you have done before, so you understand the course layout. Parkrun is perfect as its weekly and you can improve on things midweek training. 3) What really worked for me was understanding that holding a set pace is really difficult personally but I could hold a steady loosing pase, knowing this the first 1km I ran super fast (my 1km pb and my 1 mile PB were both done in the same race) and then I could slow down a little at a time. This meant that my body was "de stressing" throughout the race and I was able to hit the average page overall. It was still hell for me but allowing myself to slow down a couple of seconds every km to get a bit more comfortable. This really helped me focus on running form and breathing. It would be interesting to see him run a few races to see if this helps him focus his energy as running round a track looks tough. Everyone is different but it may help to experiment. Good Luck!
Yeah he's a solid build and not a long striding leg length. Sub 20mins 5K runners are serious runners. I managed it few years back by dropping half a stone, made a hell of a difference and I easily smashed it.
I have watch a few videos now and feeling inspired! sub 25mins was my target a few years back and injured myself after running a 25:08... many years later and i have just started again and battling to get sub 30 :(
I managed my first sub-20 5k last thursday! 19:52 Funny enough, people here are talking about dropping weight, but my last attempt was a 20:45 in december where i weighted 63 kg (height 167), and in this last time trial my weight had gone up all the way up to 67 kg, yet i got faster! Not that correlation means causation 😄
I dont trust my self to train too hard too soon. What things can 5k sub 20min runners do in the gym? Like 4 minute planks or some thing. 1.30 side planks. Thinking being i hit those before easy into running drills. Im thinking I should build up base milage to what an average 20min 5k runner does. I really have a compulsive personality, I'd rather be compulsive about things that are less likely to lead to an injury and are part of getting to 20min 5k. Another might be level of Kwats on an aero bike, i dont know.
Forward squat jump burpees, Lunges, standing squats(low). Run longer distances. Run short distances faster. HILLS! Also HIIT training. I too have been on this journey as well as many. Make sure you recover from hard training (Sleep!), Consistency is key Goodluck!!
“It’s only a 5k harry calm down”

Awesome Lucas all the best with your running
Thanks Harry & great work Alan - so close and you'll get it next time - looking forward to part 2 :-)
So close indeed Richard - now looking at when to film Part 3.

Ah, the infamous 20 minutes mark Simon. Thank you for the advice and for watching Simon.

Weight can be such a big factor. Thanks for the comment, hope you’re well
Apart from losing the weight, did your training change much?? Or do you think it was mostly due to the weight loss??
Incredible effort! Look forward to part 2 when Alan is going to smash it.
Now hoping Part 3 will be with us before long Paul.

Keep pushing you’ll get there
Great attempt, looking forward to part 2. A bit of speed work will make all the difference 👍
Thank you Chris appreciate it
Keep up the great work yourself
Harry
Great fun 🔥
It was - Part 3, we can do it.
He is a heavy guy so it was impressive
Appreciate you watching
Amazing effort 👊 I’m still trying to get sub 30 every time
Keep it up
Consistency is key! Keep pushing!
Did you get it
@@j.j.r98 Twice, now out with a knee injury and my running days could be over
Nice effort mate! I’d recommend bring a bike down to the track for the next attempt mate. You’ll get some class shots 👊🏼👊🏼
Just realised this is from a year ago… ignore me!! 💀
Not at all Jack, you make a great point
good attempt Alan
He'll get there Shanie - we pray for Alan and his Sub 20 dreams
Thank you for watching and commenting!
Harry
Should've tried it on the adjacent Rushmoor parkrun course too. :)
Definitely worth an attempt at some point Ian. Thank you for watching.
Harry
Epic!
Very.
I am doing my half marathon in Colchester in may
That’s great James, hoping training goes well

Fantastic work well done on the sub-20!
My current 5K park run PB is 20:20, which is also my first and only park run ever. I didn’t break 20, I blame it on the hilly course.
Great run, on a flat course you’d have it
I root for Alan and his goal

Very close. Maybe you can help pace too next time, aero 1:59 style.
Eliud formation style
Good try Alan!!
He was exhausted after this
I know the feeling. I'm sitting on 20:24 😔
You'll get it Tawfeeq 🏃♂️

Definitely research cross training, that can be very useful. Swim, bike, aquajog are all good
