My guinea has had a little bit of dandruff but no hair loss or bald patches I've brushed it of and nothing moving on him or his fur but I've got told guinea pigs certain breeds can suffer with just dandruff and seen it say online to
Hi no something is most likely underway with her. Dandruff is not something that a healthy guinea pig would have. You could obtain malaseb and give a wash with this to help with any possibly fungal issues. Cheers Lyn
I got the guinea pig from a pet shop last year I've tried mite treatment and hasn't done anything I've checked for mites and nothing on him and no fur missing or bald patches
Hi Amy can you send me a photo to admin@guineapigstuff.com so I can see her? What you could do is use revolution for puppies/kittens strength and put a tiny bit behind each ear on the skin. Not all parasites are visible and this will stop all of them within 24 hours.
I got untreated straw from a farm and I thinks it's playing his skin up ever since I used it he's got this proplems.. So going to try some from the pet shop witch I used before I had no proplems
see my guinea pig "Magnolia" aka Maggie she just shedds a lot but doesn't have any of these and she had a wound but that's from my little brothers bunny they started fighting and I grabbed her so she doesn't get hurt but is shedding normal for them like I grab her and it a hair invasion and I start sneezing.I want to know is her shedding ok and normal if not store here I go
Guinea pigs shed hair. This is normal. However examine the hairs and if there is any skin, skin flakes or stuff attached to the hair that has come away from the piggie, then most likely mites/mange could be present.
Hi Enasio you can completely treat them yourself. Hi Chloe - just email me on admin@guineapigstuff.com and we can talk about this. Your piggie may have several issues. If she has had a number of pregnancies it is too much for her and that may be her condition being poor, it could be mites, it could be hormonal. Either way things can be done so that she will have this re-grow. Drop me a line. Thanks Lyn
My girls scratch more frequently than I'm comfortable with but show no other signs. Their hair looks great and in place. Maybe they just have dry skin?? I feel bad. :/ Helpful video you have here. Thanks. How are the piggies now??
Hi Jennifet guinea pigs do scratch. But the difference is that you will see some white flecks of skin on the hairs that come away. if this is happening then there is an underlying problem. You can email me at admin@guineapigstuff.com if you like. Cheers lyn

I have a question bout my guinea pig, Precious is her name, anyways, I notice between her ears, on top of her head, she losing hair, brown and crust like and getting wider, I bathe enough, clean her cage 3to4 days, water once a week, bowls clean good, very concern, need advice, cause I have 4 girl cats, just don't want to spread, whatever it is, or should I just go to my vet, opinion please, thanks Angelina Riggs
Hi Angelina well done in contacting me. Are you in Sydney at all? Most likely you are somewhere in the world, but if you send me a photo to admin@guineapigstuff.com I can let you know what I think. It sounds like she has facial fungal and I have a video on that here as well. You will need to treat her with malaseb ( and there are a couple of others that are suitable for guinea pigs) as the wash mix. You will need to get revolution for puppies and kittens. As you have cats let me know what your mite treatment is for them and I can let you know if it is suitable for your piggie. Cheers Lyn
Guinea Pig Stuff my guinea pig has like brown spots near its ear and sheds a lot . I've also noticed she scratches a lot but I don't see any of the other signs-can you help me ?
someone help me please. I'm not sure if I'm over worried but my guinea pig has been with me for a month now and he is one yr old. he scratches alot, today he did all day, he is sleeping more than usual, he's a bit fat too btw like people confuse him for a bunny but he doesn't have excessive fat so I don't think he's over weight but I'm high scared. he sleeps laid out now and he yawns alot through out the day. he just eats, he'll run around for a bit and then be extremely tired. he stopped drinking his water for a couple days and now he drinks it ALOT and he seems to be scratching more than often. he does popcorn like motions when scratching. I checked his fur and there are no patches and I don't see anything. Any one have any ideas? should I bath him and see if he stops or just go straight to a vet?
Guinea Pig Stuff Hi maybe you can help me my Guinea pig has something on his head at first I thought that my son put gum on his hair but then I noticed it wasn't, it was a dumb it was something gooey I didn't put much attention at first but then I noticed it got bigger and when I touched his hair. His hair was hard but was covered with layers of this gooey stuff but underneath his hair on his skin he has like a rash or this red bump. I don't know what it is and I cannot afford to go to the Animal Hospital. PLEASE HELP Thankz

Please help I have a guinea pig around 3 years old. We have treated more before and he does not have them. He is loosing half if his fur in less than 24 hours he showed no signs yeterday and I check them every day. He is an abyssinian guinea pig. (I cant spell) He was a rescue that was from a pet store and was abandoned so we took him. He has many health issues. Please help idk what to do
HI Excellent yes this is the one. All products we use for guinea pigs are what are called 'off label' and this is no different but has been used in rescue for a very long time and highly recommended.
Hi Kevin - I would recommend Malaseb but depending on what country you are in, you may not be able to find it. There are many fungal shampoos including anti dandruff shampoos. You should also treat for mites/lice - as they are usually present when this is described. Take some photos and come and hop into our group so we can advise specifically facebook.com/groups/CavySavvyGuineaPigCommunity
HI Trishelle yes it is in there, but revolution for puppies/kittens strength or ivemectin ( but you must know the type and dosage for this). You can drop me a line to admin@guineapigstuff.com or check the website for lots more details. Cheers lyn
If anyone still sees this and knows if this is a sign or not: My guinea pig is biting herself on the back in a small patch, where there is a bit of hair loss, yet no bleeding. Is this a sign of mites or fleas? Please respond if you see this.
I have had my piggies for 7 months. When I got them the oldest one didn't have hair behind his ears. He still doesn't, but he hasn't lost more hair. Why do you think that is?
My guniea pig has a bald spot on her back but her skin is perfectly healthy it's just bald. She's almost seven yrs old so she's getting old but I don't think aging is causing it. What do I do?!
Hi Julia please send me a photo to admin@guineapigstuff.com and I can take a look for you. It could be hormonal, could be old hair loss where the skin is damaged. I am guessing that the location is from mid back to tail? This is always the last area to regrow in cases of recovery. BUt lets chat. cheers lyn
Hi, my guinea pig Charlie is currently on some anti-biotics as he has URI. However a couple months ago he was treated for mites, and now he has almost no hair in his belly and leg area. He doesn't seem to have any scabs from biting and itching himself (unlike last time) however he is losing more and more hair. I do not see any dandruff-like specs so I do not know if his mites has returned or if the hair loss is self-inflicted. Please help! I am seeing the vet tomorrow (a follow up to his URI) however a second opinion is always helpful. Thank you so much :(
Hi Angelica you can email me at admin@guineapigstuff.com for any questions at any time or on my rescue facebook page which is listed up above. i am sorry that this comment is 3 weeks on and I wonder how he is now. There are a number of things that can cause this. The most likely is that he is not moving around a lot and he has mild fungal on his tummy. When there is other health issues as you indicated this is indicative of what can happen. Ensure he has a clean dry substrate at all times and this will help and an anti fungal wash like malaseb which is fine with guinea pigs. If you send me a photo or email me direct I can see where you are at.
Hi, my guinea pig has been shedding ALOT and she's never shedded this much before. She has two bald spots on her bum and when I looked at them I saw small flecks of dandruff. Is it fungus or mites? And can I cure it without going to the vet?
Hello! I have two guinea pigs (sister and brother) well my boy Rick started losing his hair on his back so we took him to the vet and they said he had fungal, he's the first guinea pig they had there. So they gave us this lotion to put on it and slowly his hair grew back. But now he just turned 1yr and he's losing hair again, same areas and now around his legs and I'm using the same stuff. His hair doesn't come out in clumps but his skin looks a little dry. And now his sister ( who is in a different cage) is losing hair behind her ears more than normally. Any advice? I have pine chips in her cage and new paper in his ( I clean his everyday, the vet said it might help). I'm just scared of losing them. How much does the shampoo in the video usual cost?
One of my guinea pigs has a bald spot that started to form about a month ago (at the time I discovered it, I thought her sister had pulled it out), but it's growing larger. There's no sign of redness, irritation, dryness, etc and I don't really see her scratching the area much. Could it still be mites?
Yahoo answers: Guinea pigs will shed a little, but if your guinea pig is missing large patches of hair then this is not normal. You can try to treat your pig for mites. Good news is that it is a very common and easy condition to treat. Even if your pig does not have mites, the treatment will not hurt. Many people treat for mites on a regular basis, regardless if their pig is showing symptoms or not. Please do not go to a pet store to get advice. Most of the time, pet store employees are not properly trained. They will try to sell you useless things in the store just to make money. A better option would be to consult a vet.
***** Yea, it started as a small patch, but it's been growing over the past month. I wouldn't take them to a pet store for advice though lol. I'm definitely taking them BOTH to get looked over at a vet if the condition worsens or appears to spread to my other guinea pig.
J Sanoguet I hope it's nothing that serious. They're always indoors and I don't touch them when I'm sick. It's just Sophie (my albino) that's losing her hair, Bella appears fine.
My new (1-2month old guinea pig) has a bald spot behind her ear, and it had a tiny red bump. The next day after school, I noticed that she was scratching at it, then it started bleeding a tiny bit. Is it Mites? Or is it normal?
HI behind the ears is a hairless area that is tiny and also the same size on both ears. However the red spot is not normal. Sounds like might be a bite from something? Spider or mosquito? You can email me on admin@guineapigstuff.com with any questions.
I hope this vid helped. I have just found your comment. You can always message me here facebook.com/Cavy.Central.ACS.Sydney/ and I am much more prompt. How did you get on?
is it normal for a guinea pig to scratch daily? my guinea pigs scratch all the time but they seem to be fine and healthy and noting seems to be wrong. i bath them at least 2 times a month. they dont seem to be losing hair but they still scratch. normal or mites?
i will be petting them and they will have some shedding hair come off but there doesnt seem to be dry skin on the tips or any dry skin on their bodies that i am able to see

Thanks for this, but my pig looks like he's losing weight and i haven't changed his diet or anything, is it just because he's getting old? Or is there a more serious problem i should know about?
It has been a while but for others looking I would recommend vet assistance right away. In the event of losing weight there are many things to take into consideration so certainly reach out for help and don't love valuable time.
Hi Smileey this should not be happening as they have immunity of the mother for at least 8 weeks. So something is most likely wrong with the the mother, conditions, environemtns. Can you send me some photos and details to admin@guineapigstuff.com and I can take a look and help with some useful advice. Cheers Lyn

Same for me. I read up and it could be because of stress or loneliness. I just lost my other 6 year old Guinea pig and now my one is alone. I play with her as much as I can but she still seams upset and lonely. I'm worried for her.
Sorry for the delay claire. I am still trying to work all of this out. You can always message me here facebook.com/Cavy.Central.ACS.Sydney/ as I am on constantly. How did your piggie go?
Hi you can email me on admin@guineapigstuff.com and send me some photos of your piggie. There are a number of reasons why they can loose hair. I shall wait to hear from you. Thanks Lyn
Guinea Pig Stuff hey can you please help me. My Guinea pig is shredding hair quite a bit but she’s still perfectly healthy, but she’s lost so much weight as well!
Your comment made me chuckle. I am not cleaning him, but treating from something that will kill him. That is a much higher priority than getting my nails re-painted. Thanks for watching.
Alway's consult a certifide vetenarian who specializes in exotic animals. Don't rely on UA-cam to diagnose your animals! They could mis diagnose or worse.. your Guinea pig could suffer a possible allergic reaction or be further injured due to being misinformed..

Does it work for fungal infections?
Yes it does. The zinc component in a shampoo is anti fungal
No ivemec does not work for fungal. The shampoo Malaseb or anti fungal shampoos will. Malaseb is more medicated.

Then come and join our group in facebook or seek vet help locally. facebook.com/groups/CavySavvyGuineaPigCommunity

Hi Can you send me a photo to admin@guineapigstuff.com ?
someone help me please. Any one have any ideas? should I bath him and see if he stops or just go straight to a vet?
bathe him and if he keeps on go to the vet immediately

(I cant spell) He was a rescue that was from a pet store and was abandoned so we took him. He has many health issues. Please help idk what to do
Please take photos and send to admin@guineapigstuff.com
I found The Maleseb shampoo but it only says it’s for cats, dogs and horses which one for guinea pigs?
HI Excellent yes this is the one. All products we use for guinea pigs are what are called 'off label' and this is no different but has been used in rescue for a very long time and highly recommended.
How does the hair grow ? Please answer coz I’m going on holiday next month and I need a response please help me out
Hi once treated correctly within 10 days to 2 weeks you will see the hair regrowth
HI my Guinea pig has hair loss on his back/bum area could you send me a link to a good shampoo thanks.
And how many times should I bath them with this shampoo and can I have another Guinea pig in the same bath without a fungal infection.
@@GuineaPigStuff thanks for your help
where did you get the shampoo I can't find it anywhere? is there one for just giunia pigs
Hi you can get over the counter at pet supply places or direct from a vet.
What shampoo are you using? Thanks!!
Hi - Malaseb in this video
Thanks for watching.
janie Daniels -.-
This is malaseb
how do you take care of the mites? you says on video title how to tell mites and fungle then the video ends up only being about fungle
HI Trishelle yes it is in there, but revolution for puppies/kittens strength or ivemectin ( but you must know the type and dosage for this). You can drop me a line to admin@guineapigstuff.com or check the website for lots more details. Cheers lyn
If anyone still sees this and knows if this is a sign or not:
My guinea pig is biting herself on the back in a small patch, where there is a bit of hair loss, yet no bleeding. Is this a sign of mites or fleas? Please respond if you see this.
Hi please come over to the facebook page Cavy Central guinea pig rescue and I can help you. Yes this is a sign of mites. Cheers Lyn
@@GuineaPigStuff i got my guinea pig treated for mites a few days ago and now she stopped biting!
@@kubagurpl8130 Awesome!!
I have had my piggies for 7 months. When I got them the oldest one didn't have hair behind his ears. He still doesn't, but he hasn't lost more hair. Why do you think that is?
Zome pigs Re bald behind the ears totally normal
My guniea pig has a bald spot on her back but her skin is perfectly healthy it's just bald. She's almost seven yrs old so she's getting old but I don't think aging is causing it. What do I do?!
Hi Julia please send me a photo to admin@guineapigstuff.com and I can take a look for you. It could be hormonal, could be old hair loss where the skin is damaged. I am guessing that the location is from mid back to tail? This is always the last area to regrow in cases of recovery. BUt lets chat. cheers lyn
Aww I fell so bad for them 😢
Omg I feel so bad for them! May I ask what shampoo you used for a fungel infection?
Shaivi you found it - malaseb!
Any updates?
*****
Yea, it started as a small patch, but it's been growing over the past month.
J Sanoguet Thanks

My new (1-2month old guinea pig) has a bald spot behind her ear, and it had a tiny red bump. The next day after school, I noticed that she was scratching at it, then it started bleeding a tiny bit. Is it Mites? Or is it normal?
HI behind the ears is a hairless area that is tiny and also the same size on both ears. However the red spot is not normal. Sounds like might be a bite from something? Spider or mosquito? You can email me on admin@guineapigstuff.com with any questions.

very well done!
Thanks for this, but my pig looks like he's losing weight and i haven't changed his diet or anything, is it just because he's getting old? Or is there a more serious problem i should know about?
It has been a while but for others looking I would recommend vet assistance right away. In the event of losing weight there are many things to take into consideration so certainly reach out for help and don't love valuable time.
my 2 ,5 week Piggies Lost Alot of Hair , Have Sum What tiny Bite Marks Will Malaseb help ?! SOMEONE HELP ASAP ...

Guinea Pig Stuff .. Sadly They Died A Month Ago... Turns Out they had the ring worm 😞 the mom is Still alive , i finally Found a cure for her but sadly her babies died ....
That is devastating. It must be really severe for that to compromise their immunity. Revolution or ivemec would have sorted this
Guinea Pig Stuff ... what i saw that the ring worm did to them was make them... smaller and thinner , they where 4 months Old And They Stopped drinking there moms Milk When They where 1 Month Old , as soon as they caught ring worm .. they shrinked and started drinking moms milk :/

Same for me. I read up and it could be because of stress or loneliness. I just lost my other 6 year old Guinea pig and now my one is alone. I play with her as much as I can but she still seams upset and lonely. I'm worried for her.

Alway's consult a certifide vetenarian who specializes in exotic animals. Don't rely on UA-cam to diagnose your animals! They could mis diagnose or worse.. your Guinea pig could suffer a possible allergic reaction or be further injured due to being misinformed..
