My husband and I took one of those tables that kids can put trains and Legos on and converted it into a guinea pig cage. It is amazing. Between fighting the table with a second hand store for $20 and buying the racks and zip ties, I think we only spent 40 bucks.

ya i have a barn 100x50 foot, and scrape wood and i found a old door in there, and used that as the case and scrap 2x10 boards for the walls, and house with a 2nd floor for my 2 piggies.. costed me 0$ and its like a 8 foot long wooden cage.. to protect the wood door from piss, i used scrape plexi glass i had from fixing my barns windows.. so to clean, its as easy as wiping the plexi clean, and i use pine bedding from tractor supply.. its 8$ for a massive compacted bail.. lasts months.. I dont see how people use fabric bedding though.. thats nasty pigs.. pee ALOT.. and I am not wasiting water or soap and putting that in my washer where my cloths go.. discusting

I'm very glad you brought up the common illnesses. It is so important to have a fully stocked emergency kit at home. With the kit I've put together I can treat almost all illnesses (except those that require antibiotics) at home. The other day one of my pigs had an ulcerated eye out of nowhere. I checked and there was no hay in it. I popped in some terramycin and she was good as new within a day. I possibly saved hundreds right there. I also do health checks and nails trims for my friends pigs. It's instinct at this point whenever I'm in contact with someone's pig I start checking it over 🤣

@@meatballthehammy7410 Here are things I have/recommend. Feel free to pick and choose and add whatever.
      1. Anti fungal cream 2. Critical care 3. Antibiotic ointment 4. Terramycin( antibiotic eye ointment) 5. Cbd cream 6. Ivermectin 7. Epsom salt 8. Anti fungal shampoo 9. Bandage wrap 10. Betadine 11. Lots of extra syringes. 12 child life vitamin c
Those are things I can remember off the top of my head. Basically to treat fungal issues, cuts/wounds, and eye pokes, etc. Always recommend critical care on hand if you have a pig that stops eating. Or there are ways to make your own.

Thank you so much for addressing these issues. You can never point out these things too much. I thank you so much for stating not to give inappropriate items to thrift stores. The thrift stores had a Rollin in the Hay ball which is dangerous to the piggies. Piggies get caught in the rungs. I was the thrift store the other day and they had a bag of non kiln dried pine bedding. I loved your guitar style background music 🎶. Great to see Bengal and Gari.

Tbh, I never trust pet stores in general. I remember the first time I got fish, I knew I needed to do a cycle before settting up the fish tank. So I asked a pet store employee about it. She said a cycle usually takes one day if I used a certain product. So I bought it ofc! I Used it in the new tank, waited one day to put the fish in. Unfortunatly, a few of my fish died from it. I was devistated, but it was my fault for trusting the pet store employee.
Later down the line, I got guinea pigs. When I got them, I went to the store to buy some hay. I kid you not, they tried to sell me a pink, small hamster cage (probably not even suited for a hamster) and also a «premium» hamster ball for guinea pigs. I was shocked! I bought lots of panels instead, which means that they now have a huge area to run around, popcorn and do guinea pig stuff! :) Moral of the story: do research, and DON’T blindly trust pet shop employees.

My baby girl came was rescued with "food". Turned out they were feeding her hamster food. She came with treats too. And in one of those small cages with no toys and a hard wooden bed. I got her some proper feed, hay, a bigger cage, a soft bed and toys. She went from mellow and scared to playing, eating well and zooming through her hanging toys.

Best place for coroplast is local sign shops! Mine saves any misprints or damaged sheets for me. Because my cages are too big for standard sheets that can be transported easily, I do a double layer with ultra strong tape on seams, and the inside of the cage is unprinted. I use the Kavee panels because my smaller pets can't get in.
My crew like SPS pellets, hay samples, and cookies.

Well, I was on the right track, she has signs of hormone issues. Crusty nipples and thinning fur on her sides (she is a silkie sheltie long haired). Please pray for her that she will be okay. Hi Scottie😀 I have kept guineas for many years, giving hopefully a loving and healthy home including several adoptions (I only keep adopted pigs these days). I could not agree more with you on all your points!👍🎯 Plenty of room: my three girls have a whole room to run around in plus two cages with a gap cut out so that they can come and go as they please. I also dump a really cheap sleeping bag on the floor and they love to burrow and feel snug in it. Plenty of hay - 80% - absolutely! I think that sometimes people are only concerned with rodent front teeth (hence giving them stupid wooden carrot toys) and they don’t realise that back teeth need grinding down too. It has been my experience that nervous or unhappy guineas gnaw at stuff - I adopted a girl last year who came from a large herd (was bullied) and she gnawed all the plastic around the cages - she doesn’t do that anymore. She enjoys grass sticks (like the ones you recommended). A good guinea vet is essential - there are a lot of vets out there who have no clue when it comes to treating them and I have had some bad experiences of this, and yes, they can be very expensive pets to keep - you are so right when you say that guineas are NOT ‘starter’ pets - I have kept these beautiful critters for so long but I am still learning about them.
I would add a couple of suggestions (if I may). In feeding pellets it is really important to store them in an airtight container because the vitamins (especially Vit C) is very unstable. Regarding fresh veggies, keep an eye on calcium levels as they can cause bladder stones - unfortunately I have lost two pigs to that. So always check the calcium levels of the veggies you feed them.
My Primrose is almost 8 years old, I love her to bits (she is a re-homed ex-brood sow). She is a bit boney and a little bit stiff at times but she eats and poos like a trooper❤

True about spoiling my piggies with veggies. They didnt eat their hay that much. I already shortened their daily dose of veggies and greens and I am happy to see their hay going out quickly. I am so happy that I am actually following all of your points almost to the point. The only thing I do is to use big hamster ball for my hamster to safely run around the house with my free roaming piggies so they dont hurt eachother. I bought two piggies only to realise their cage is way too small for them. I taught them to go out to free roam anytime I put their cage down but still it was bad. My partner managed to make a small floor cage and they have a ramp to it. Now my piggies freeroam the flat wherever they want. I taught them some manners, they learned where to pee and poop and we just found a great bond. Now they are like my little dogs running to me when I get home :-)

Processed snacks are limited to Oxbow Vitamin C and dried pea flakes. Our piggies eat about 2 cups maximum total of fresh veggies and fresh herbs a day. We have a neutered boar and a female piggy. Our female Gabby LOVES to take her fresh veggies under her Guinea Dad pouch and save them for later, so I must switch out that fleece liner out every other day. Even if I use 2 x 1 liners under the pouch, she pulls it out as nothing comes between her and her fleece pouch. They have many hidys and fleece blankets for snuggling but our female simply loves snuggling under her Guinea Dad liners with pouch. Our boar is easy going and sleeps all over their 10' x 10' C & C paradise. They also LOVE Small Pet Select Hay (1st cut and 3rd cut blended is the ticket) sprinkled with dried herbs and such from the same company. Thank you for all your very informative videos!

Buy your Timothy grass by the bale at a farm supply or feed store. A 100 lb bale will sell for what 10 or 15 pounds will at the pet store. Stores well in a trash bag if left open to the air. Get the vitamin C they need where you buy yours. Pull apart the Vit C capsules and sprinkle about 25 mg per pig on their veggies.

Great video! I have a question. I need to to use some other bedding besides fleece liners for a bit. Which bedding is okay for my piggies? Shredded paper or with shavings. Need to buy or make some new fleece liners. All of mine are not absorbent anymore. I’m very disappointed with my Guinea pig dad liners. Spent so much money on them. Have about 8 of the long ones and about 16 of the pee pads, not absorbent. Ugh!

Thank you for the video! A friend was needing to rehome a guinea pig for someone else, and said he had been raised alone so I didn't realize how important it was for them to have cage mates -- how should I go about adding a friend to his life and how big of a cage do I need?

Big cages seem to have such an impact on guinea pigs' quality of life. Yesterday when cleaning the cage I saw our most docile and friendly boar popcorning, and he's 15 months old; he is older by 9 months than any guinea I've seen do that before!

Having had many piggies, for treats we would give them salad bits, baby carrots, and watermelon rinds (not every day all day of course). As for exercise, we'd just let them run around the floor sometimes since it was safe for them and good exercise.

My dad made a big wooden hutch for my guinea pigs. They were free range in the day, having the entire garden to run about and eat the grass and weeks. They only slept in the hutch at night.
They had lots hay and vegetables. For the dry food we gave the mix with seeds, corn flakes and squashed peas etc, and only fed this at night.
They never had toys either. They played with each other and enjoyed hiding and making tunnels in the plants in the garden.
They never had treats or human food. They lived long happy lives and never got sick. My eldest one lived 8 years and even when she died of a suspected heat attack, she was healthy looking, plump with shiny thick fur.

There is a lot of wrong information out there and I lost 3 pigs because I listened to it and did the wrong things, I did not know how to take care of them and I did not know how to see the signs of illness because I thought it's easy to care for them. Also a good vet and periodical checks are a must and I learned this the hard way. With the last piggy I learned better from these types of videos (plus I found a vet who knows what he does) and she is 6 years old now and has 2 operations. I still do wrong things, but I try to learn to be better. Thanks for your effort and please keep it up to educate us!

I've been telling my wife that guinea toys are a waste! We have 4 and they show no interest when we get them toys. Of course to keep the wife happy I do it, but you showed images of literally toys she's gotten them before so I think you finally convinced her lol your videos help in a lot of ways. Never thought piggies were so complicated but they're so worth getting educated on. Like a dog wagging it's tail when you get home there's nothing like coming home and hearing those excited weaks.
