Your car control is sublime, Jake. A couple years back I did the whole 86 season in AMS2 and Montreal was by far the hardest track. I couldnt for the life of me keep the tyre temps under control, yet you're making it look so easy here!
I just finished a season with these cars, what a blast!! One of the most rewarding cars to get fast at that I've driven. I found that staying right at the bottom of the turbo range through corners really helped keep a good pace up, bouncing off of the gas pedal. Awesome video man, this was a treat to watch
@27:07 - That's exactly how I feel. Retro cars on modern tracks with current sponsors etc, does indeed feel like a modern historic event, rather than an actual event in period. I try to avoid that as much as possible.

Wow! That was so good, thanks for sharing, I could almost hear Murray Walker sometimes. Great effort! I for one love all the full AMS2 F1 races. Maybe you could do like short seasons, with just the tracks that are there, but over multiple years. I really hope they'll do a Monaco pack or something, some day. WIth a 60s monaco and an 80s or 90s monaco or both. But I'd love a sixties monaco.
The island was built from the earth dug out from the subway system. Still the only track you can get directly into by subway. Shame they only race one weekend a year and no other series.
Brilliant Jake would love to see you put a season together, watching you battle there is better than the current real F1. Really love all that you do, your passion shines through and takes me along for the ride. 👍👍👍👍 🍾
100% loved this. Full races with even a truncated season for the tracks they do have in the sim would be excellent. Any of the Formula Classic cars or even the F- Hi Techs would be so much fun to watch and follow along with like the ICR2 seasons are. GREAT video and very good race.
Nice! I was at the 92 race won by....Gerhard Berger! I can see a few minor things 'wrong' with the track, looks more like a later iteration. I was just off to the right of the start/finish line: Senna, Mansell, Schumacher, Berger, Alesi. The sound was incredible, at the start especially, and it all seemed way more dangerous than expected. I think it was about $12 CA. We got caught speeding on the way there in a 5.0 SC Mustang Cobra GT. Woop. :D

I would love to see a full season! Or, like you have done with some previous videos (Ronnie Peterson, Michael Schumacher), it would be cool to see an "iconic drives" type of series where you try to recreate performances from specific races. "What if" scenarios would be fun too
You may have picked the wrong Montreal layout, it looks like the 1991 version with the tighter final final corners. The 1988 layout with the much faster final turns was the one you needed, but that's a minor detail.
Ultrawide ratio looks great! Some of the best racing I've ever seen against the AI, it was a joy to watch. A full season would be great, even with track subs.
I wonder if the Senna technique of driving a turbo F1 of that era works in the game: he used to jab the gas pedal during the turn to keep the turbo spinning and avoid the kick when going on power out of turn.
30:55 You can't pause to change strategy, but you can disable the strategy menu from disappearing, so it stay open permanently until you close it. At least you can make small changes during straightaways.
Jake it's amazing how unchanged the circuit really is from yesteryear. The kink on the backstraight is entirely gone because of the casino parking lot, but the chicane before the current T1 from the late 70s is still there in a sense. It is covered by bleachers but if you are under it, you can clearly see the old right-left kink with some curbing. Before recent repaving, you could see how the hairpin was longer by about a track's width because of the variation of asphalt. Overall Reiza's interpretation of CGV is VERY good. I can identify little details from my days of marshalling there where other renditions don't do justice.
Throughly entering Grand Prix, very realistic. I have the same skin pack and those cars are beasts to control which is something I struggle with although I can see why the drivers loved those cars back then the punch from the turbo must have been something else!.
Watched the whole race - and really enjoyed it! Absolutely felt like a real race the whole way through - except when Jake had a poor start, but still gained 5 positions on the 1st lap through "cheesing" the AI. Got my vote for more full races, and for a whole season if possible. Even though it's not possible to give the cars the proper team names in the sim, doing so in a offline scoreboard would make up for it.
Ile Notre-Dame was man made in the 60's, using the dirt extracted for the Montreal subway system; it was then use along with near-by Ile Ste-Helene during the 1967 Montreal International expo "Terre Des Hommes"; then in 1977 the go-ahead was given to construct the track to be ready for the Canadian Grand Prix in October 1978. There are still a few of the original expo structures left, most famous are the Montreal Casino which was the French pavilion and the Biosphere as the United States pavilion. the basin was constructed early 70's for the 1976 Montreal summer Olympics ( I live 15 minutes from the circuit ) :)

Jake, I don't know if you've seen a documentary called "1986 Equinox Turbo The Cosworth V6 Turbo for the 1986 F1 Season" here on YT. It's well worth a watch. 😀
Alan Jones was Haas Lola lead driver alongside Patrick Tambay in 1986 as they were not just the Lola Factory team but the Ford works effort too. Also you shouldn't have fuel stops for the 1986 cars to properly simulate the racing at the time as refueling was banned in 1984 and for 1986 fuel was capped to just 195 litres so the racing at the time were kinda high economy fuel runs!!!
I don't know if it's still the case but, before it wasn't possible to complete race distances in AMS2 in these cars without refuelling. All the AIs would retire around the 75% mark.
Great vid as always. Might be being harsh on AMS 2 and I’ve never played it. However the AI doesn’t seem to race each other very well. They never really overtake each other or try very hard. Kind of half heartedly move slightly to the side and then tuck back in. Kind of hard to explain but have seen enough videos over time to get this impression and this race don’t some much better. They prob behave not too bad reacting to a human driver I just think whilst a real old sim like Grand Prix 4 isn’t perfect the AI raced in a more entertaining way. So much so that you could almost take yourself out and watch an entire AI race in TV view. The back markers try to let leaders through, they overtake each other and defend. They even occasionally crash into one another and make mistakes which makes it seem more real. The only problem with the AI in that sim is first corner. They seem to rarely collide there at the start when potentially that is when the most carnage can happen. But other than that …
Totally agree. I just got AMS2 before Christmas and put about 80 hours into it before becoming bored/frustrated with the AI and then went back to GP4. Racing the AI is so much more fun in GP4. I still love everything else about AMS2 but I might just stick to Time Trial mode in that game and do actual races in GP4.
@ I think back in the day they had to do much better AI as offline racing was the norm. Now it’s all online in the main and am sure AMS2 is great in that respect I wonder how AI is in Le Mans ultimate. I really like the look of it but having watched a few vids I still cannot decipher if it gives a good offline experience

I don't know if it's still the case but, before it wasn't possible to complete race distances in AMS2 in these cars without refuelling. All the AIs would retire around the 75% mark.
@@Ikuconodule Yeah I wouldn't now be suprised at that now that I'm hearing about AMS2 AI from everyone here.
Many races ended with cars running out of gas.
They prob behave not too bad reacting to a human driver
I just think whilst a real old sim like Grand Prix 4 isn’t perfect the AI raced in a more entertaining way.
Now it’s all online in the main and am sure AMS2 is great in that respect
I wonder how AI is in Le Mans ultimate. I really like the look of it but having watched a few vids I still cannot decipher if it gives a good offline experience
Is there a good "Osterreichring" track out there? Would love to see a 1986 race
