    50 minute plus one lap race at x30 time progression, mandatory pit stop and start the race at 11am. That’s my favourite settings for endurance racing.

    • @SecondHandRacing

      Does that give you about 24 hours?
      Do you adjust tire/fuel use?

    • @jamesleegte
      @jamesleegte 5 днів тому +3

      @ it gives you 25 and a bit hours. When racing AI it’s best to turn fuel useage off, as the AI aren’t effected by the weight of the fuel in the car and you have to wait for your tank to drop to 50% before you can keep up with them. I have fuel useage turned off, stop for fuel switched off, tyres wear authentic and mandatory change four tyres pit stop selected.

    Some very interesting stories on how gt1 went from sports cars to barely disguised prototypes. One of the rules was you had to have a certain amount of luggage space, I believe toyota found a loophole where they could use the empty fuel tank to count as that requirement

    What a great combo. The CLK LM GTR with a seq shifter, motion and VR in AMS2 is probably the most fun Ive had in any sim. The car is an absolute beast and is just waiting to punish you for any input mistakes. And, yes, it eats tires. If you are a masochist, take this car on the Nords. lol

    Hope to see you doing some group C in 1.6, in my opinion they're one of the most improved classes in the update, they lost their weird low speed wiggly feeling and have that solid mechanical grip like they should, but feel even more intense when pushing to the aero's limit. Super enjoyable to drive at tracks like historic Hockenheim, Buenos Aires no. 15, etc. in fact, that Buenos Aires layout is probably my favorite for group C, absolutely insane through the big loop section.

    Thunderflash's JGTC mod works wonderful as a secondary class. All GT cars, a bunch of them raced at LeMans (the NSX, the Supra, 2 of the Nissans, the Ferrari), all mid-90s contemporaries to the GT1s, and their pace appropriately slower - it's very probable they would have raced together - honestly all that's missing is a Viper and a Porsche and it would

    You may notice the Merc does not appear to have a current gear indication on the dash. This is because it had a rudimentary heads-up display with the current gear projected on the windscreen. You can see it on real-world videos. It needs adding to this car for those of us who race "bare-screen" (no overlays) and VR.

    Sports car endurance racing and especially GT racing really had a weird point throughout the 90s and early 2000s post Group C. GT1 was mainly meant to be for road going cars wanting to race Le Mans mainly. The ACO and FIA were coming up with a replacement prototype class for Group C with the WSC/LMP cars. But manufacturers like Porsche, Mercedes, etc. found loopholes within the rulebook that essentially brought along homologated specials that were essentially prototypes with a road car body. It got to a point where something had to be done since it was just Porsche and Mercedes dominating the class at Le Mans and the FIA GT Championship. So Group GT1 became LMGTP for Le Mans and other major endurance races with the Le Mans Series and ALMS while GTS became the top GT class. FIA GT Championship used GT2 cars for the series, and GTS and N-GT classes would become the GT1 and GT2 classes everyone would know through the 2000s and 2010s til both their demises.

      Eh it really shouldn’t. Not unless the world’s economy sinks deeper than the Mariana Trench. Plus compared to their old GT1 and GT2/GTE counterparts, they’re more widely used.
      GT1: ALMS, Le Mans Series/ILMC, early ELMS, and FIA GT Championship/FIA GT1 World Championship.
      GT2/GTE: ALMS & IMSA GTLM, Le Mans Series/ILMC/WEC, and ELMS.
      GT3: IMSA, WEC, ELMS, AsLMS, GTWC+GT Europe, GT America, GT Britain, GT Asia, GT Australia, VLN/NLS, Super GT, DTM, Britcar, even Trans Am with their production car classes, the grocery list goes on.

    • @mitchell-wallisforce7859
      @mitchell-wallisforce7859 3 дні тому

      Correction: The 911 GT1 and CLK GTR aren't loophole abuse, just particularly absurd examples of what some manufacturers are willing to go through just to have an edge. From 1994 to 1997, homologation rules mandated 25 road-going examples for a model to run in GT1, and that's exactly how many both makes built: 20 coupes and 6 roadsters for the CLK GTR Straßenversions, and 25 total for the 911 GT1 Straßenversion.
      In 1998, the required production run was _explicitly_ lowered to one car, which is why Nissan and Toyota's contenders only had one road relative each and why Porsche and Mercedes also only made one road variant apiece of their 1998 cars. A loophole is "an ambiguity or inadequacy in the law or a set of rules". There's nothing ambiguous here: the GT1 rules just _allowed_ things to get that crazy.

    Good to see that AI seems to have a little edge on you through Eau Rouge as well, even if AI Speed isn't too fast in other areas of the track. While I am not able to stay with them at 110% and have them only at 100% the pattern is the same for me.

  • @DustySticks
    @DustySticks 5 днів тому +7

    Something broke with 1.6 where we have gone backwards and the AI pit way more frequently for fuel than they need to. I did some testing with the LMDh at Daytona a week ago and half the field will start with 90L and the other half will start with a full 110L. Both fuel loads though will pit within a lap of each other when they have used about 55L of fuel. Some cars will fill anywhere to 90L-108 and others will fill to 110L. It completely breaks the immersion of endurance racing as you will once again just win or beat a lot of AI purely for the fact that they are pitting far more frequently then they actually need to.

    on the homologation front, I believe there were a few different phases of GT1 with the early 90s (mclaren F1, bugatti EB110, Jaguar XJ220, etc) being very different from the late 90s (Mercedes CLK GTR, Porsche 911 GT1, Nissan R390, etc), which was also very different from the 2000s (Aston Martin DBR9, Lamborghini Murcieallago, Dodge Viper, Maserati MC12 GTR, etc)
    The middle era was nicknamed "the prototype era" where the homologation rules were made very lax, to the point where that Nissan you have in the race (the R390 short tail) had only one "street version" in existance, AND when they made the Long-tail, they just built it off of that very car meaning there is no longer an R390 short tail homologation car. This was also the era where toyota made their GT1 car, really hammering home that this was the prototype era, only for the real prototypes to come back and race alongside them for 1999(?)

    • @leeday2265
      @leeday2265 3 дні тому +1

      The homologation rules at the time were confusing. Nissan only did LeMans, which allowed them to make only the 1 road car that had to pass an MOT. Porsche and Mercedes had to have a customer road car programme, I think of around 20 to 30 buyable road going cars. Yet Lotus, Panoz, Lister, Sard and Mclaren were exempt from this rule. This was 'explained' as being the size of the manufacturer. By 98, this rule (I presume) had be swept under the carpet and the new Porsche and Mercedes didn't need to meet the 20 car requirement (I believe they were orginally asked to make 100) either. Which is sort of fair, when you consider Nissan and Toyota only had to comply with LM rules. All in all you can see a definite progression (or slide depending on your view point). The 94 converted road cars. The 95 race cars for the road, Mclaren and Ferrari taking advantage of it. The 96 more racing car versions of these. Then late 96 the homologated Porsche taking advantage of the BPR rules. Then the 97 cars progressing on from the 993 GT1. Then the 98 cars that were definitely prototypes, but with a road legal example to 99 cars that were 100% protoptypes. The Toyota TSO20 did have a lot of significant changes from 98 -99. With the 1 converted car being a fair chunk slower.

Maybe do another similar endurance race in one of their mods and let us know how it compares to the stock Reiza cars. Recently I tried a different mod car that's just been updated to 1.6 and it felt loose, as though the suspension was way too soft. Then again it could've just been me. Really really great combo. Honestly AMS2 might have the best offline experience for simracers in the market with how immersive and customizable it is. I do think though that the custom AI is messing with the game a little bit. I've been racing some 20% or 1h races with 2x mistakes and still see very few of them. Other than that, really fun and chaotic race there 😂

  • @TheFlual22

    I think the strange behavior of the AI is linked to the custom AI files. I had a couple of 90 minute group C races at this version of Spa and their pit strategy and rate of mistakes was completely plausible. I think AMS2 is the best when it's untouched by 3rd party content.

    it really feels like ams2 needs to put together proper multiclass packages. i'm glad they have modern ones, but they have nothing to run with the gt1 cars, nothing to run with the group c/gtp cars, nothing to run with the porsche/corvette group 4 cars, and nothing to run with the corvette/bmw group 2 cars. let me run some period-correct multiclass! 80s gto, 70s group 5, and 60s group 4 and 5 would be incredible. (i'd also love to see proper normal touring added as well, replicating the nurburgring 24h would be so sweet.)

    Riccardo Patrese was Michael Schmuacher's teammate at Benetton in '93. Then he left, and came back and drove at Le Mans in 1997 (or '98)... Weirdly he happens to be someone whose entire career can almost be replicated in AMS 2, starting from his entry to F1, time at Brabham, Williams, and Benetton, then GT1 and even some Group C that he did in the 80s. He's my favourite racing driver and II always take number his 6 when racing! He then took up show jumping, but came back to 24 hours of spa in 2018. If only we had the NSX (and some showjumping mods) and his entire racing career would be replicable in AMS2.

    GT1 didn't change rules or what have you: Porsche and Mercedes simply started making homologation specials rather then modifying existing kit. The "Straßenversionen" of both the CLK GT1 and 911 GT1 exist and they do look the part.
    off-course, them doing this also effectively killed the class because of the escalating costs. Oops.

    • @PanderingSlats
      @PanderingSlats 5 днів тому +2

      Right, they designed the racing version first and the homologation around that after the fact- if memory serves, there was one particularly egregious model where they didn't have a homologation car until or maybe even after the end of the season.

    • @leeday2265

      It's pretty confusing, but there were definitely rule changes. Also, rules for LeMans and FIA GT were different. This allowed Nissan to make just the one road example. Different rules/rule changes were most evident with the Jaguar XJ220C. Raced LeMans 1993-1995. Was not allowed to race BPR due to the too few number of the road cars, XJ220S. However, made a bit of a comeback with the rule changes in 1997. Also, the large manufacturers (Porsche and Mercedes) were ordered to make a certain amount of road cars (which they both failed), the number was then brought down. Whereas none of the other GT1 cars of 1997 had any more than 1 MOT version, that never was sold as a road car (including the F1 long tail). Then the 98 versions Porsche and Mercedes didn't have to make sale-able road cars anymore. There must have been other changes between 97 and 98 (other than this and the turbo restrictors) as the lap times were massively different.

  • @MarcSob22
    @MarcSob22 5 днів тому +3

    All GT1 are based on road cars even the Nissan that only 1 road cars exist!

    • @leeday2265
      @leeday2265 3 дні тому

      Other way around. The road cars were made to fit the race programme. This is what made a lot of GT fans angry with this formula. Whereas, the F40 and F1 short-tail were 'race cars for the road' that were converted back to race cars and then had a racing version; Porsche turned all that on its head by making a race car and the required road cars off of that so they could go racing. It sounds like a small point, but it totally changed the class. For me, for the better. For the traditionalists, it ruined GT racing for a long period.

    It isn't nostalgia, it's the FACT that the bus stop chicane was a great last section and the corner they have replaced it with is complete shit.

    Yeah the rules were very loose. When the series began, a mere _promise_ of 20 road cars was enough for homologation. Then in '97, the FIA returned to sanctioning and put their foot down-requiring ONE whole street-legal example actually be built. Porsche's road cars were called Straßenversion (street-version)
    The '98 "Evo" you're racing against is the third iteration of the 911 GT1, and featured Porsche's first carbon fiber chassis, replacing the tubular steel frame and 962 rear end (lol) of its earlier ones. They all had mid-engine placement, which we wouldn't see in another so-called 911 until the 991 911 RSR. Thankfully the regs in GTD brought the engine back to the rear like the production cars
    GT1 is one of my favorite eras of sports car endurance, but like Group 5 it was proptype in all but name

    Nissan was even more extreme in their negligence of the road-going model regulations by eschewing the 200 examples rule and literally made just one.

      The Panoz, Lister, Mclaren (long tail), Sard 97 and Toyota were all the same. Toyota only did LM 98. Nissan got away with it because they only did LeMans. The others as they were classed as small manufacturers I believe.

    on the topic of not seeing these cars in any other sim: the Porsche is in Assetto Corsa but honestly I never understood the praise that car gets in AC, I know both the GT1 and group c cars have horrendous stock setups but even with a lot of tuning I always found that the GT1 felt pretty awful honestly, for a Le Mans endurance car is sure has absolutely zero front end and really does not to do anything that requires downforce.
    whereas in AMS2 sure they might be a little "too easy" to get along with but if you aren't careful you can and will flip these cars & from what I can tell from onboard footage Reiza seem's to have gotten most of the GT1's to react to being driven hard in a way that you'd expect and that makes sense, plus this new tyre model and the further tweaks to aero make (from the cars I have tested and driven) for quite a convincing time in sim, which can not always be said for some of the more established sims known for their offline content.

    What skill setting and aggression did you use? I was used to beating max aggression 120 skill AI and even lapping them before the update, but now they are really aggressive and keep bumping me off the track. Without AI messing me up I'm doing 2.07 consistently in race setup and I have the WR in TT. But the AI felt unplayable for me. I've attempted this race 200 times last week. 😅😅😅

    • @conehed1138
      @conehed1138 4 дні тому +1

      Yeah the AI seem much less realistic frankly. They hound you relentlessly and defend/overtake unpredictably. I feel like I can hardly finish a race without contact

    • @Vollhirni
      @Vollhirni 4 дні тому

      He used 110% Speed and medium aggression for this

    • @caaarlos
      @caaarlos 4 дні тому

      @@conehed1138 I'm used to run all maxed out, it's nice to make them more competitive but somehow now they feel very unrealistic in the way they drive, and also the aggression is pure madness.
      on spa93 fast corners they pit maneuver and their "train" is too tight, less "concertina effect" like a real race scenario. in some moments they are 100% glued to each other and the car behind still bumps into you while making you bump into the car in front and making every corner entry a potential spin as if the player wasn't there, and now the player has to drive in a very unrealistic way.
      before I used to even lap the AI at max aggression and 120skill which wasn't ideal, but at least they looked "raceable" and I had min-maxed setups to beat the AI so easily.
      right now the AI experience is just off, uncanny, weird. I've reduced from max to high aggression and it's much better but the problems still persist to a lesser extent.

    They need to give GP Laps a series to do what he wants in LFM.
    It looks like LFM is all but ditching GT1, judging by this weekend schedule.
    It sucks that they keep doing this crap with AC and now AMS2... they run the standard GT3/LMP and then crap like F3 and Ginetta Cup while letting some of the truly great classes sit there doing nothing. Grp.A also getting maybe 1 or 2 races per day on the weekends now when they should run at least every 2 hours.
