This is some super relevant stuff for me, I may have had tracks in an app, commercials, hundreds of downloads for pirated versions for my songs,, but the actual people who engage and listen to my stuff I can count with one hand. And you know what? It doesn't bother me. The positivity I get when showing my music one-on-one still trumps all.
I guess I decided to go the slow route you're talking about. Just 3 people have bought my stuff but it's amazing to think that somebody actually gave me money for my music. Also I have recommended your tutorials on reddit a couple times because they were relevant.
***** Well... no, I don't think he can since, as you're saying, it's YOUR own style... You'll have to mix, match and combine all kinds of musical stuff you like alot, and do it alot... until it will, eventually, grow into your own style.. Like, I really like time signatures beyond 4/4 and tempo shifts, all that kinda of stuff.. I try to implement it well into already existing genres, mostly glitch hop. Not many EDM producers do this, so I hope that I one day will have developed it into my own unique style. Which people will recognize as me :)
***** muck about and experiment with making songs and you will eventually find it. Unfortunately you are going to get tired of hearing this very same thing but it is time and effort and it actually works.
Everything you said here is exactly my mentality, I wanna take it slow and build a strong and loyal fanbase. Can't wait for the 75k tutorials, gonna suggest a few sounds :)
Something i really didn't expect to happen from just commenting on these videos sharing information, helping people out with questions and even asking questions myself is I had a few people who watch Seamless check out my sound cloud without telling them to. There have been a few times i have honestly put links to certain songs i made relating to the video about a technique or creativity it could have been that, but idk since it happens randomly. I feel part of promoting yourself in a more indirect way is being social and helping others out here and there. Also liking other people's videos if it's helpful even if you already know the subject well because it helps others find it easy. Music really is about people, socializing and connecting with each other (probably sounds very "hippie",but it's true). People want to know if your a person too and not just the guy thinking I and Me all the time.
+blood lord Yeah 100% agree with that. I have watched a few people here and there rise up fairly quick and it has been due to being part of real conversations and helping people with production, not just…check out this XYZ I did… I think it is like what Seamless is hitting on…they collected real fans that really wanted to hear their stuff that way…not just the like to download people.
Volt Punk I feel being real and a person would help others get colabs as well. I haven't done one which i'm not sure if i would since i've very used to being independent (i'm a lone wolf kind of guy),but opportunities open when you are social where ever and have something to give that is priceless even if it's a silly joke to make someone smile at the end of the day. Best to be a person instead of a marketing corp wearing a business suit.
Well said. For those looking to grow a fanbase more organically, I'd also recommend reading Get More Fans by Jesse Cannon. I'm just about finished and there is tons of great info in there.
The best people to show your stuff to are promoters, that's what they're there for. And here's a helpful guide on how to write emails to promoters properly. It's a post by Direct on the edm district forums. puu.sh/jcoaG/5a87d2f8d4.png
I agree with pretty much everything you say in this video Seamless. I just started out on Spinnin records' talent pool where noobs like me can post their stuff and share it with other noobs. I did it primsrily because I wanted to participate in a remix contest. The first couple of days I didn't self promote because I don't like to do that just as you. I wanted people to discover a remix that I did by themselves. Then I realized that it doesn't work like that on the internet. I have now started to self promote, but I only do it in a way that I give real feedback to others so that they might take a look at my work as well. I have only gotten 1 comment with real feedback from a guy that really liked my remix and it made me more happy(The funny thing is, my artist name is HappyCom :p) than all the other 150 false likes. Nice commentary Seamless. I am a true like, not false!
Or how about the way I found Virtual Riot: He remixed the sounds of a Let's Draw episode from Apecrime (popular german UA-cam channel) into a song whose drop became a meme for the following episodes
I always try to avoid self-promotion if that could take the focus away from an otherwise important topic. That's also why you won't find a single UA-cam comment where I'm even mentioning someting like "Hey go listen to my music!", only rarely I am also telling a personal story of me making music but that's as far as it gets. I always try to let the value of these essays speak for itself and then hope that anyone might find me sympathic or interesting enough so that they click onto my name above the comment. And for the Image Line forums, my second most active community, it's obvious that the focus is set completely about the topic of discussion and nothing else.
lol i posted my soundcloud on seamless comments before, cant help it, theres no other way of getting people to actually hear your stuff, by telling them about it
I really think there are other places. I only have like 140 followers on SoundCloud but I know that most are actually interested in my music. I've never posted my SoundCloud or anything like that on UA-cam comments or made posts asking people to listen to my music. Just find places to talk to other producers and if you have links on your profile there is a chance that they may look at them. Like for example on the Image-Line forums I got a few followers from there by not even talking about my music but instead just joining in on the discussion and helping people. They have it so there is a link under your name to you SoundCloud on that forum so the people that followed me were likely saying something like "oh I wonder what this guys music sounds like" . ultimately no one is going to want to listen to your music if you try to throw it in their faces or don't actually give back anything. Like on the Facepunch forums you can post your music in one of the music discussion threads and quite a lot of people do that but the great thing is that if you just post your music no one is actually going to listen to it or give you feedback because they go by giving each other feedback. So if you post something you actually need to go listen to some of the other tracks people have posted and give them feedback. Kinda like a I help you, you help me.
SoundElements Thanks for the time spent commenting lol :) very informational, no joke really helpfull XD anyways searched you up after reading this, like your newest track also followed you, can also tell your a fan of portal XD me to :)
Callum R It's no problem. I figured I might as help someone out. That actually demonstrates what I was saying. I didn't come to these comments to get someone to listen to my music but instead help someone and well you went and listened to my music haha.. Yeah portal is pretty cool, actually working on another soundtrack for another portal mod.
I'm not sure if you've done this before or not, but I think it'd be interesting if you had a video about what motivates a person to become a producer and your opinion on that kind of thing
I find it boring doing just one style of music and people always had ideas that I need to pick a style if I want to have stellar listener base. Maybe picking a style is how you make it big. Sarcastically said just do what someone else does because people people in general "really" like new stuff...
well if you want to get recognized u gotta stick to one genre if thats what your fans like cuz if you intend to change, ur fans might not like it and will stop listenning
EXO - I know. I listen to a lot of different kinds of music. It's kind of very unnatural to me to sit down and try to stick to specific genre. It's like eating beans forever.
EXO - I'm not sure what the point is. People are never happy. I don't buy much music anymore because most artist repeat themselves. There is some exceptions even in pop music. I am just part of the minority who likes diversity.
im trying to self promote but i dont want to do it here cuz i respect seamlessr. anyone know any forms or any good website that i can post my stuff that they will listen?
Actually whenever a music download uses toneden or something similar I just don't download the track. Because I don't wanna be forced to like an artist and worst of all repost their stuff. I can decide myself which producers I'm a fan of and which I'm not. Virtual Riot is an exeption since I am already a fan
Hey guys I think im really special and more talented than you and you should check out my band "GRANDMA SLAYERS"!!! we play solos that make no sense and scream like a bunch of little girls and sometimes we even use 3/4 time sigs in our breakdowns! soooo technical omg what!? nice channel by the way. subbed!!!
I understand you enjoy teaching but if you produce good music, i cant wrap my head around why you wouldnt want to do that and go all the way with it. "Get big" so to speak. I guess its just a matter of what you enioy most.
Au5 cared about my demo :'(
Mr. Bill Bill pls.
Lol. Mr. Bill too pro
Mr. Bill Bill pls...Go home...we know.
Mr bill, I didn't expect to see you here XD love your music
On this subject. I value what you do to the point that i may have no interest in a certain video however you still get the play through.
very good advice...

I love when you talk. Anything you say is loved by me. Fan well earned over the years. Keep up great work bud.
18:42 actually mad true... XD
Inspirational as always. Thank you

75k is reached! Congratulations OuO
***** It's 75001 to me /shrug
Could you do a video on how to find your own "style"? :)
***** He does. Watch his music design tutorials :)
***** listen to one track of every music genre only advice i have for you... How can anyone show you your own style only you can find your own style
Really anything that you make is your own style and that's all there is to it
***** Well... no, I don't think he can since, as you're saying, it's YOUR own style... You'll have to mix, match and combine all kinds of musical stuff you like alot, and do it alot... until it will, eventually, grow into your own style..

The PointBlank forums do have a subforum dedicated to musical self-promotion which is simultaneously used for remix competition entries
Thanks for posting the video

Seamless, you should do radio.

Have you ever considered sending in your music to record labels? Because it's killer man! Keep up the good work.
EHD He's already signed by Celldweller's label, FiXT Records.
Noisetalgia Music But he's not famous?
EHD Are you fucking joking?
РØŁ¥Μ€ŦŘΞĆ What do you mean? He has never been in a single concert before and isn't even talked about amongst the "dj community"
EHD What the fuck are you babbling about?
The only thing i hate about self-promotion, is that I feel like a sellout. I cant stand s4s or any other "gamey" ways of getting followers.
Ahhh Seamless... thank you for the video ! :)
CONGRATS ON 75,000 SUBS!
You're my bruh

what do you do if you make a good song, you upload it then someone copy/steals it
Now as I finished watching I'm wondering if I should promote myself here, but that would be kinda obvious
But maybe people will click??
75000 sub tutorial hype!
Aaaaaand 75k!
cue soundcloud links
anyone have any good forums for posting music like he was talking about?
I hate SoundCloud bots.
Thank you for the solid advice! You're doing an amazing thing and your followers are true!
You've done amazing!

I'll be unique and say nothing without living a link to my music

I have never tried to promote anything... hence my last track has 6 plays xD My music is not bad at this point either, I've been at it for 6-7 years.
What's your opinion on going through something like live Nation or something?
If this is the vid for the 75k sound design than make the lead sound in the second drop of crown by diplo
