    Thanks, this helps me understand my 2008 Sienna AWD tagger case (which ran dry and needs work)

    Excellent video, could you tell me the proper name for the seal that goes on the end the extension housing where the driveshafts connects to the transfer case. 6:57 in the video. Can that be changed without removing the case from the car? I have a slow drip coming out that seal or is it leaking from another seal?

      Did you ever figure out the answer to your question? I am curious what that seal is called and if you can replace it without removing the transfer case?

    To the end of the video, you were able to replace all the seals on the transfer case?
    I want to do this for my transfer case on 2004 Toyota Rav4 Automatic. Car shifts fine but I have fluid leak that look like a mixture of Automatic transmission fluid and transfer case.

    Would you recommend that when doing transmission seal replacement at the junction between the transmission and transfer case, we replace all of the seals of the transfer case too because of the task of taking out the transfer case

    So transfer case is really a misnomer. It’s simply a gearbox to drive the rear prop shaft.
    Is there a differential in the transmission for the rear axle? Or is clutch controlled?

    • @GaryFerraro
      @GaryFerraro  Рік тому +1

      yes there is a diff inside the trans, the transfer case splines into the diff

      @@GaryFerraro thanks for responding to this old video. I have a 13 RXD which drives and feels like a differential to the rear. Much smoother than the Ford Escape which uses a clutch pack to drive the rear.

    I have an oil leak between the transfer case and the transmission of 2004 Toyota Rav4. The fluid looks like it's from the transmission.

    Starting at 10:28 , is it possible to remove that passenger side axle retaining plate off just to change that o-ring by any chance. Mine is leaking on my 04 sienna

    • @GaryFerraro
      @GaryFerraro  12 днів тому

      Well, i done see why not if there is enough room, there are seals in there , you have to be very careful not to damage those seals. These T-cases never go bad, i think this is the only one i ever worked on. Your sure that seal is leaking? maybe clean it down and run it to see where it originates from to confirm

    • @ro6721

      Im pretty sure its coming from the retainer. My case cover was leaking slightly when i baught my van in 2016.in 2020, it started leaking a lot and mechanic told be it would need to be taken out to reseal and reccomends to do all seals while its out. I said ok. When i got the van back, after a week of driving, the bolts for the the retainer cover were coming out and was leaking all over that area. When i braught it back, the guy told me it was the axle seal. I baught a toyota replacement axle seal for him to put on. After he "fixed "the job, it always still leaked from the retainer cover(only gear oil)recently when changing the downpipe, i decided to change the oil as i suspected it was getting low(i would get humming howling at certain speeds. About half a quart came out when i drained the gear oil. I refilled it with lucas gl5 85 90 to the fillbolt(almost a quart) when vehicle was on the ground. I recently checked it out and realized it started leaking a lot more than it did before apparently. I dont think the mechanic did the right job by me as i also found the rear motor mount bolt out and carrier mount bolt missing. I will try to double check this weekend and snap some pictures or do a video showing what it looks like. Only gear oil is leaking. Transmission fluid level is fine

      @@ro6721 ok, if you wanted to send pictures
      gsferraro@yahoo.com. Im sure the o-ring is available, there are also double seals in that cover, you have to be very careful when putting this back in. Do you have access to a lift?

    Is it possible for oil from this transfer case to mix up with the automatic transmission fluid and vice versa? What could account for this?

    • @GaryFerraro
      @GaryFerraro  7 місяців тому +1

      I would say yes, i see that on other vehicles, usually due to a bad seal
