This is the epitome of a great tutorial. I am a beginner and a ripe old 76 - NO experience yet - and need a birthday present for a friend. You got my vote. The colors are perfect for her. Thank you soooo much
Hi I just love your tutorial. Starting your alcohol ink journey with tiles is an excellent idea. Question: do you seal the tile with anything when you've finished? Thanks.
Oops, I almost forgot. My local hardware store sells 99% isopropyl alcohol by the gallon in their cleaning supplies section for around $27. I never expected to find it there and bought it. It's exactly the same alcohol sold in small bottles at the drugstore.
Thank you for the tip of starting on tile to learn. The anxiety of wasting the expensive paper has been a creativity blocker for me. I LOOOOVE how your flower turned out!!
I love alcohol ink. This turned out beautifully. I've been doing watercolors, but this is making me want to get my alcohol inks out again. Love these colors together.
I wondered about that! Thank you for confirming. I’m excited to try it! Your work is beautiful. I make coasters as a fundraiser for cancer and am having a hard time finding smooth sided coasters.
I went to a local pharmacy (not a chain store) and asked about alcohol. He said he gets some in every two weeks but it goes fast. He agreed to put a bottle aside for me when I asked and call me when it comes in. You may find a local pharmacist that will do the same...
WTH? Seriously? Can't believe how beautiful this is! Never tried air brush, but have wanted to so bad. Thanks a mil for sharing and all your investment of time to list supplies. New subscriber from NW Florida.
I just made one today on a 5x7 in. crafts paper with Marabu inks the same colours , Blanco Blanco and brass from Pinata. it looks gorgeous, I need to go back on tile, too. When I go to Walmart I always check for 91% alcohol there or try Family Dollar Store. Thanks for you videos :)

Have you tried on Yupo paper? Beautiful flower!!! I love the color combo you used. I think it looks better without the dots in the center. Why do you not tell us the colors you are using?
Tile is great for beginners or just to practice on. I use or 3 light coats of kamar varnish and 2 of kamar UV protection to finish it off. You can also use your resin of choice once those steps are completed and dried for a beautiful finish.
Just Gorgeous! Love your color choices. Sometimes I'll have to alternate from an airbrush, to blowing or what you have used. Lovely as gifts. The alcohol I purchase, because it is difficult is the MG Chemical Isopropyl alcohol electronic cleaner with attached straw that connects to the nozzle. It's 99.9%. I spray the alcohol into the small needle plastic bottles. I purchase through Amazon. The price is $16.97. 15.9 oz. It comes within a couple of days if that. I hope that helps even though this video is one month old. I've never designed anything on tile. I imagine it's a glossy surface? Well, I love your art. You've inspired me. 🥰👍🌷❤
Thank you so much Liz. I managed to find 99% alcohol since this video...thank goodness. Give tile a try...inexpensive, wipes off easily and fun to work with.
Gorgeous! Thank you again - I love watching you and you keep me trying. I am having issues with markers on tile (regardless it seems, of brand). The marker seems to interfere with the alcohol flow...? Instead of the alcohol flowing nicely as with ink, the alcohol 'gets stuck' and makes little jags in the line of ink. Humidity doesn't seem to be a factor. I use 99% alcohol. I've always used 99%. (FYI - I paid $40 for a gallon on Amazon - I know thats pricey but for me, worth it). So not sure what I am doing wrong but will try again. Oh! someone on youtube suggested moonshine (Everclear) for us alcohol inkers. Haven't tried that but at 190 proof thats 95% alcohol! A thought...Cannot buy it in every state though so might not work for everyone.
Thank you BK. I'm not sure whats going on with your markers. These cheap markers I use work great on tile for me, but not so great on photo paper. The darker colors leave stains on the paper. Are you letting the alcohol sit for a few seconds to soften the ink before blowing it out? (just taking a guess at what the issue may be.) I may have to give the Everclear a try if I can find it in my area or shell out the $40 for the gallon because I'm running SOOOO low.
Just watched your video.. your flower is so pretty. You mentioned alcohol is hard to find.. have you thought about trying EVERCLEAR grain alcohol from the liquor store??? Just wondering if that would also work
I posted this video during the pandemic. You couldn't find 91 or 99% alcohol at the time and if you did, it was very expensive. I've heard others comment on using everclear and they say it works well. I've never tried it.
Janette I have watched so many of your videos and you are amazing. I am into AI for several months and so many tiles, papers and ink used in trying to achieve something recognizable!!! So today I pulled you up again and decided to try the ink markers on tile. I pulled this video and did exactly as you did and then it came time to add ink and blow. You air brush made the most beautiful petal as did the hand blower of which I tried both. I can't get a petal going. it always splits into three or more fingers. My frustration is over the top. HELP😵💫😵💫😵💫😵💫
What do you have your psi set at? It may be too high or you may not be using enough alcohol. When your petals start to split, you can blow on each side of your petal and blow it back together. Also, blow from behind you puddle of ink and alcohol and try using small spurts of air instead of continuous with the air brush. I hope this helps.
this is a wonderful tutorial. what is the green tool that you were applying the snowcap to the center of the flower called? It looked like a small painbrush, but with a harder end.
Thank you. They are called micro brushes. I pinned the supplies in the comment section. It's the first comment you will see, if you would like the link.
I use micro brushes. There is a link in the description box below the video. Click on the arrow pointing down or click on "show more " and the list will expand. There you will find a list of all products used and links.

Very pretty! I cannot seem to keep the petals from having jagged edges and the flower looks like an explosion of colors( still pretty I think ). But have been practicing petals and can’t seem to get it .
Hi Panna. If you're using and airbrush, try lowearing the psi. You can also use the air brush to push those spindles back in by running the airbrush along the side of the petal toward the center. You can try different distances from the paper as well.
Hello Jeanette, I know already that air moisture can effect how the inks flow, I would like to ask if heat / warmth can also make a difference? Thanks so much. Take care 🙏🤗
Hi Nana. I find that it does make a difference. Where I live, I find that when its warm, its usually humid...they go hand in hand for the most part. The inks are so sensitive to either of those conditions. When it's really humid or warm, I usually use my dry palette to paint with the inks rather than my airbrush which only seems to compound the situation by pulling and spraying the moisture from the air it collects.
Hi Nicole. This is the one I use and love - *Master Airbrush and compressor kit - amzn.to/2sMjGjq - it has an adjustable PSI which I find very important when purchasing a compressor for use with AI

You must have seen that on my FB page where I was doing a textured painting on canvas using acrylic and clay based paint. If using ai on canvas, I would use kilz2 primer...not gesso.
Hello. This is beautiful. May I ask what type of ink/paint did you use for the center of the flower (black color) and the white snowcap part? Thank you.
@@VivoVintageDesigns lol. Im forgetting these videos have been out longer than Ive been doing this. Lol Thanks for your comment in my group. Im excited to learn more.
Wow! I just clicked on the link for the markers and they are incredibly inexpensive compared to Copic. Do you have an opinion as to how they compare? My guess is they are not refillable and limited in color, but beyond that, what do you think of them? Gorgeous flower, will have to try this method. Thank you!
These markers are very inexpensive and work well on tile, but not so much on paper, as they stain. I've used them on paper to create stems and leaves, but I cant use them for this technique on photo paper or Yupo. I've not used Copic, but I hear wonderful things about them.
I tried to buy the markers you suggested, but they were out. Bought some other ones, they say permanent. But the alcohol doesn't even melt the ink. I'm only using 94%, could that be why? Or, are the pens not supposed to be permanent? Thank you.
Hi Venus. 94% should work. I imagine it's the markers. Here is a link to an inexpensive set - amzn.to/3jWz4RS. I've not used this brand, but if you take a look at the description, perhaps you will know better what to look for.
Beautiful work! Great artist! 😊 Where do you find your tiles? I went to lowes and home depot in my area (phila burbs) and can't find plain white tiles larger than 6" sqr.
I get my alcohol at Walmart for 91* for less than $3.00 for the full quart bottles. Good luck, but l am still getting it there, where others only have 71*.
That's a great idea. It all depends on how you want to use the tile. If you're going to use it as a coaster, I recommend 2 coats of kamar varnish and 2 coats of kamar UV protection. Once it's completely dry, use resin over it. Use blue tape on the back so the resin doesn't drip on the back of the tile. If the tile will be decorative. Just follow the first 2 steps with varnish and UV protection. I will try to get to a video on the process soon.😊

Where do you find your tiles? I went to lowes and home depot in my area (phila burbs) and can't find plain white tiles larger than 6" sqr.
Hi Chris. Thank you so much. I find them at my local home depot.
Hers is a 6x6 tile. She says so at the very beginning of the video. Have fun!😊❤
Thank you. Which alcohol do you use please?
I use 99% - here's a link - *Amazon brand - Solimo 99% Isoproply Alcohol 16 fluid oz - amzn.to/35SVYlG
@@VivoVintageDesigns Thank you so much for your quick reply. I was using 70% and getting frustrated 😀. Thank you 🙏
@@lamaisondecath4180 oh no! 70% contains too much water. AI and water don't work well together. You can use 91% or 99%.
@@VivoVintageDesigns Thank you! Just ordered. I can’t wait to try tomorrow 😃
For white which brand and what kind of color you used 🤔
*Ranger Snow cap - amzn.to/2TPcRbK
I found 1 gallon of 99% alcohol on target.com for $19.99! Thank you😊
Try flower with air blower on paper?
Are you asking if I've tried the ranger air Blower on paper? If so, yes and it works well also.
Will this work the same on Yupo
I believe it would
I get my alcohol at Walmart for 91* for less than $3.00 for the full quart bottles. Good luck, but l am still getting it there, where others only have 71*.
Can you do these on canvas?
I've painted many ai flowers on canvas. I seal the canvas with kilz2 primer.
I got mine at rite aid 90 percent alcohol
What is the colour in the centre, please?
Pitch black to start and then snow cap for the dotted detail.
How do you set it ?
Once completely dry I spray a couple of light coats of kamar varnish and then a couple of light coats of kamar uv protection. I also resin after.
Hi could you please do a tutorial on how to seal alcohol ink on tile please.
@@VivoVintageDesigns Thank you, this is very helpful and very kind of you to get back to me so soon. ♥️
do you varnish it ?
Yes, you would seal it as you would any alcohol ink painting. You can also resin once you have properly sealed it with varnish and uv protection
