Another great video! I LOVED Firefly! He was my go-to villain for getting stuff done. That grey camo and mask grabbed my attention immediately, so unique -- never understood the hype about Storm Shadow and all the ninja stuff (I always prefered W1 Snake-Eyes as a commando over his cheezy visor ninja versions, as well). For me, Firefly was just ruthless and mysterious and, kill or be killed, it was going to be epic when he came into play. Still easily in my top 5 Cobra figures to this day; and I still have my original figure with all his accessories -- including walkie talkie!
this was one of the last figures i acquired and received extensive use over all of the other villain figures - it was basically the Joes against this guy with an occasional sprinkling of the remaining cast peppered into the plot
The accessories, stuff that mostly goes missing, is a great way to add extra character development. Firefly is a fan favourite but I hear more stories about how people lost his walkie. His backpack was a game changer. It's got soooo much awesome detail
I'm surprised I managed to hang on to my walkie for all these years, especially considering how much I played with this figure. I totally agree about the backpack! :)
I used to play with him and I love that issue with Cobra Commander and Storm Shadow on the cover they would work alongside the Star Wars Imperials and trying to destroy the rebels in GI Joe guess I lost a communicator just like everybody else but I thought his machine gun was pretty badass
I had Firefly as a kid (still have him) and he was one of my favorites, for all the same reasons you mention in your video. I added extra paint detail to his backpack, there was so much cool stuff in there it just had to have some paint.
@@WeHadThat haha! I’ve found that acrylics are best for most action figures. My mistake as a kid was using enamels and Sharpies. Enamels stayed tacky on the plastics that Star Wars and MOTU figure’s limbs were made of. Sharpies would tend to bleed into the plastic over time. Not good if you have figures stored in a bin coming into contact with each other. 😁😬
Thanks for a great nostalgia inducing video!! In india we had a kids chocolate drink called complan. And in the early 90s (when india got licenses for gi Joe from Hasbro), the local vendor made 5 figures for the chocolate drink company using the Hasbro casts and called them "complan commandos" - basically mixing and matching mostly wave 1 and wave 2 figures but some wave 3 too. So short fuze's head and a blue non camo version of Firefly's body with Firefly's gun in black was a good guy called rocker - and he was my favourite for a long long time. By 1993 when I finally got hold of firefly, I was shocked to see both figures having the same body 😅 Then I realised what was going on. And yes, I lost the walkie talkie first, like most kids at that time. Firefly is one of my favourites of all time and I'd love some content around firefly being made by gi Joe resolute animation and team.
One of my alltime favorites. Love Firefly. Amazing camo, super mysterious card art, awesome accessoires and cool cartoon appearances. You are right, he should be in more episodes. And an amazing toy. Loved him as a kid and he has seen lots of action during playtime. Happy to have a complete one in my collection today. Great video buddy.
@@SoundwaveNL1977 Thanks! There are a couple of Toy Shows around here where I've found great deals on vintage Joes, but for the most part, it's been tough to find good prices on figures with accessories.
@@SoundwaveNL1977 Yes! The hunt is definitely part of the fun! We've been lucky around here, we have a big toy show in town each year and regular toy swap meets, plus a second big show a couple of hours away.
I got this from my moms friends few years ago, and the box he gave me had three! So now, I see them as a elite squad called The Firefly’s, instead of just one firefly
Never had the figure. But I fell in love with the character in The Weather Dominator. He was badass and his voice actor nailed it. He was cool in the comics until a reveal about his history, which felt unlikely and lame. Still want that figure!
I really liked this figure as a kid. However, when I learned that I could take the figures apart and make new ones by switching parts around... he was one of the first I did this to. I gave him the Water Moccasin Driver's arms and called him Mongoose. He was an enemy of Cobra, just not necessarily on the Joes' side. lol.
always wanted him as kid, but i was late to the party and had to settle with 88 / 89 figures. Not the coolest Joes, but better then the 90s one. Thanks to technology and Ebay I do own him now :D Firefly is the Boba Fett of Gi Joe. Hope he stay a mystery forever.
Your videos are really cool. One thing I think you can improve on is to stop using the word “wave” for the figure’s year of release. Many of us collectors including Mark Bellomo use the term “Series” for the years worth of figures. A wave is a set of figures released within a year. Example, 1983 had only four of the six G.I. Joe “Joe” figures initially offered and then Torpedo and Tripwire were offered later in a second wave along with Destro and Major Bludd. This is evidenced by the card backs that have the “coming soon” words written over the explosion where the character art was supposed to be.
That's an interesting delineation. For me, a "Wave" would be the group of figures combined in an overall release batch, not necessarily related to a year (you might have two waves in one year, for example), but also not necessarily having the same release date. To me, the wave is a set of figures in development around the same time. For example, the 2nd wave of MOTU figures seemed to actually hit stores at different times, and even started to appear in various media at different times, but they all seemed to be in development around the same time for the second batch of figures for the MOTU line. Is the difference that you see in the term "Wave" vs. "Series" specific to GI Joe or does it extend to other toy lines as well? To me, the word "Series" is more similar to "Line" than "Wave" when discussing toys. For example, the TV show Friends was a television "Series" made up of different "Seasons" rather than being a new "Series" each year.
Firefly was definitely one of my favorite Cobra's

Another great 80's gi joe action figure review and awesome toy photography bringing cobra's favorite saboteur to life!

My favorite Joe figure of all time. I'm currently trying to collect every version
That's a great way to store the walkie-talkie on the figure! Wish I'd thought of that😅

I probably would have tried to add paint detail myself, but I failed so miserably trying to paint my wave 1 figures that I never tried again -Haha! :)
Haha! I ruined so many figures when I was a kid because I didn’t use the right kind of paints. Thankfully Firefly was not a victim of that! 😁

Forgot about the time he was “The Faceless Master.”
Always liked the character, wish he would have been in more episodes.
JUST WOW. I Love it this figure. Spec Ops guy with "hyper" Mat-49 SMG. I want one for myself!:D
He's easily one of my favorite COBRA designs!
Firefly was always flying away at the end in his FANG
My Firefly figure would usually sneak away when the battle got too hot...to return and cause more trouble later!!!

I almost pick airborne as my first G. I. Joe but I end up with Roadblock coz I find him awesome in the comics

Fire flys gun is based on the French mat 49 submachine gun

Short Fuse and Grunt (after a very LONG deliberation in the toy store!)
Firefly is a badass
