It's a pitty SADC leaders are part of the self-serving cabal that leads Zim, hence their indifference to this. To add insult to injury Mnangagwa has now appointed his children to the cabinet.
We need a sea change of Leadership at SADC level (except in Zambia & Lesotho where this appears to have already taken place) for us to see the required response to this nonsense behavior. I pray that my country RSA is the next to experience such change in next year's elections.

Great interview Trevor and Ibbo. A couple of points :
Trevor, to make out that the opposition and Zanu PF are both to blame for violence is misleading. Go back to the hundreds killed and brutalised by the State in previous elections. There is no comparison.
Ibbo, to suggest that Mnangagwa should head a transitional government sounds like madness. Have we learned nothing ?
Why is Nelson Chamisa not given real credit where it is due ? He has done incredibly against the odds . In my irrelevant opinion the actual vote and support showed that he reflects a massive connection with peoples hopes for change.
    Thank you gentlemen.
    Respectfully

Our fathers, mothers, brothers, uncles, aunties, sisters died for our freedom inside and outside Zimbabwe. Many of these opportunists, who are the ruling elite never fought for our liberation, let the truth be told. The really liberators most of them are dead and only a few remain . Legitimacy is key. The nonsense of yesteryear is fast becoming unpopular and you risk isolation as the world modernizes. If you choose dictatorship path better be benevolent one and development oriented like Singapore founding path. If you can’t then vacate. All people cry for in Zim is a government focused on progress in healthcare, education, water and electricity provision, infrastructure and not obsession with power retention. I’d guarantee that if they focused on real development nobody will be bothered about them ruling 1000 years.

I really enjoyed this conversation. However, I would like to disagree with Ibbo Mandaza and Trevor's view that it might not have been a good idea for Chamisa to enter the election.
If Nelson Chamisa and the CCC had boycotted the election, it would have been judged as credible, free, and fair by SADC observers, leaving Chamisa and the CCC out in the cold. This is because Zanu PF would have contested the election with only a few small and insignificant parties that would not have joined the boycott. Consequently, Zanu PF might not have felt the need to resort to tactics such as voter intimidation by FAZs, ballot paper delays in urban areas, or the suppression of smaller Maduku rallies. In this hypothetical situation, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission (ZEC) could have operated with exceptional transparency, presenting credible figures to demonstrate that President Mnangagwa and Zanu PF had indeed secured a fair victory. All these repressive tactics were employed specifically to prevent CCC from winning and thereby inadvertently exposing ZEC and Mnangagwa's regime to the election observers. Again, without CCC, the ZEC would have conducted a credible election in the eyes of observers.

Great listening to Dr Mandaza, but I disagree with you Trevor on 45:10 when you say “if you really love Zimbabwe you can’t be happy with what Nelson Chamisa is running his thing”! Why shouldn’t we? No one is perfect, but we want a first step forward! Chamisa is the only first step, that’s why you spoke only about ZANU and CCC! If you can’t be happy with the first step then you will never move. I think he even had a better understanding of the situation than you because after the coup you supported ED when many of us including Chamisa understood that it was only “chinhu chavo ” and no miracles to expect from the old man who had been in government for 37 years then! At 57:30, how can you equate the cruel machine in ZANU PF to the opposition? Where do you take that from? Do you really know what happens on the ground in rural communities? I am happy Dr Mandaza on that point stressed that this is “more on the state side”, I think he just played it down not to jolt you. I sense an underlying hatred, or condescending view of Nelson Chamisa in you, that’s my take.

  • @takaadams9156
    @takaadams9156 Рік тому

There are credibility issues with this Ibbo Mandaza creation, which will make it still born. Ibbo is a bitter ex. He regards the Zanu government as a dictatorship but is ok with Chamisa' dictatorship. Chamisa runs a dictatorship. Secondly, when you bring in the transitional authority, Zanu will still have the upper hand because of the army. There is no guarantee that FAZ, a civic body like all the other civic bodies sprouting up in Zimbabwe at election time, will not be there, with a different name, to help Zanu back to square one. Is the transitional authority going to disband the army? Thirdly, why are there no cranes in Harare and no investment? Let us not pretend guys, is this Not what MDC/CCC wanted? Are sanctions and all the negative publicity about Zimbabwe not designed to drive away investment and "force regime change"? Why has Standard bank been fined millions of dollars for transacting with some entities in Zimbabwe. Why is it difficult for Zim banks to have correspondent relationships with banks abroad? How does the Zim govt organize a fake, 'free and fair election" when its own hands are tied to its back?
The whole Zimbabwe election charade is meant for an opposition win and Ibbo and gang actively do Everything possible to make the opposition win. How then does Ibbo turn around, with a str8 conscience, on the other side, proposing something neutral as if He is?
His own duplicity and tone deafness is very loud. Even Chamisa himself mistrusts him, never mind Chamisa's cordial poker face. Zanu PF Does not?
Nothing Ibbo proposes will come to fruition because Zanu will not accept and if they fake a warmness to the idea, the transitional authority will only to be used as a pressure reliever. Like I said, Zanu will not accept any material changes to the army standing, where the source of their power lies.
Ibbo is a great academic. He has great ideas. He is a Patriot. But he is Not an impartial man in this thing. Far from it. He is better off outsourcing his ideas because Zanu PF can see through this.
His energies are actively spent trying to unseat Zanu PF. All the energies he is expending, talking to "people" in the region, all have one goal. He needs to be honest with himself.
In addition, Biti, Coltart, Chamisa etc have all travelled to Washington DC to lobby sanctions and bring about Jambanja in Zimbabwe, (an ungovernable state of affairs, a Kenyan model MDC adopted).
How then can they and their supporters, including Ibbo, expect to see plenty of cranes and plenty of new investment in Zimbabwe?.
MDC/CCC made this Jambanja, scorch earthed policy bed. They must Own it!
It is time for CCC to lobby hard and sincerely to their sponsors to remove the rope on Zimbabwe's neck, and join the re-engagement train, then get to work in Parliament to improve the legislative side of things, including electoral laws that Mumba had no right to criticize.
Afterall, CCC have taken up their "fairly won " seats in Parliament! LOL
How then can they turn around and accept a circumvention of the People's voice? The donkeys have bolted!

why did it take him so long almost 43 years to talk honest politics, he should have all these things during Mugabe's rule and would have done the nation a favour as an objective political analyst. But it was noble for Trevor to bring him under public spotlight

Very good discussion. What I don’t like Is Trevor’s beef with Chamisa and opposition. It shows how true it is when they say a leopard 🐆 cannot change its skin spots!

We are entering a global economic era whereby no country will survive without regional integration. Zim keeps on creating new enemies and further isolating itself.

To my thinking the 2yrs you said dambudzo had proposed to ccc did dambudzo really wanted to surrender or that his intention was to get rid of Chamisa even before the two year period

Very informative conversation, but ED is going nowhere comrades - why would he want to leave in two years so that once he leaves you guys can chase him and the wealth he stole? This GNU talk is just a rouse, that man intends to collapse Zimbabwe and his henchmen will support him because the benefit grossly from the situation. Just a final note, just like ED knows, Chiwenga also knows he is not electable and therefore force and violence will be the only way to govern.

A transitional with technocrats is the way to go. Zim needs people who are allowed to spearhead policies on meritocracy not partisan. We have a lot of big brains who can take our country out of crisis

Trevor was trying so hard to get a nod from the good Prof that Chamisa is power hungry. I’m glad the Prof didn’t entertain that😅
