The Shoei Neotec 2 helmet. A 2023 update

- Опубліковано 27 вер 2024
- Here at Motolegends we sell a lot of Shoei Neotec 2 helmets; probably more than anybody. Anywhere. We like flips, and we like Shoei helmets. But the Shoei Neotec 2 also just happens to be the right kind of helmet for a lot of our customers. If we were based in Chelsea or Shoreditch, we would probably sell far fewer. But a lot of customers are commuters, and a lot of them do big tours, both here and on the continent. And for that kind of riding the Neotec is the perfect tool for the job.
But so busy have we been fitting Neotecs that we haven’t had to do a lot of marketing on them. Sean did a video about the Neotec when it first came out in 2017, but we’ve barely mentioned it since, other than to, now and again, announce a new colourway.
But that was then, and this is now. The market has changed. ECE 22-06 is now here. And in the Schuberth C5, the Neotec now has a very worthy competitor, in the way that it didn’t have when the Schuberth C4 was around.
We now also have a wealth of knowledge and understanding of the helmet, such that we thought it might be worth re-visiting the Neotec, and to talk about why you might, or might not, want one today.

Honest and well-delivered reviews. Best motorcycle products and news channel on the market today! Cheers!👍
Apart from being very useful, it is such a delight to listen to someone with a great command of the English language.
Just bought my 2nd Neotec 2, fantastic helmet and commas system. As always, great service from you and appreciate the price beat pledge, it really makes a difference 👍
I am going to buy my second Neotech 2 as I just found out the sun visor hits my nose on the 3.... I hated the Sena though. Mine took a crap after a few years and fairly low usage. I managed to install a Packtalk edge in my old Neo 2 (and on my now primary Hornet X2) so will move it over to the new one.
Always by far the best instructive well presented easy to listen to videos about motor cycle gear out there 10/10 , Thank you ,Ash 👍
The comms problem with the Neotec is that you can't mount a Cardo easily. I also disagree on the mesh. I ride with a few friends often and having mesh is a revelation and a safety advantage.
My point was that Mesh is not for everybody. More than 75% of people who buy comms. want it for music, the satnav and telephone calls; or for talking to a pillion or one other rider. For all these groups, Mesh is a waste of time; it costs more and offers a much reduced battery life. Those who need Mesh, need Mesh, but most people don’t. CP
Mesh is good but heavy on battery
@@drmengawyong At least with a Cardo Packtalk, I've had no problems over a full day of riding.
I have a Cardo Pactalk Bold fitted to my old Neotec 2 and it is an easy fit using the adhesive pad mount. It took no more than 10 minutes.
I recently bought a new Neotec 2 and bought the sena integrated mesh comms. I changed because most of my riding group use Sena and I am very impressed with it. The sound quality is now very good and the battery life is superb particularly as you only switch on mesh when you need it unlike the Cardo. It is also much easier to connect to others using the Sena app.
I think the Bluetooth vs Mesh point is valid for most as 98% of the time I am on Bluetooth only.
So what the options in fitting a Cardo Packtalk to a Shoei Neotec 2? I rather not have to purchase a new comms system with a new helmet. Tks!
The best, most professional and informative presentation I've ever seen. I wish I lived closer to your store. Subscribed!
I just really wish that Shoei would bring out an Adventure helmet based on the Neotec to compete against the Schuberth E1/2.
I always enjoy your video productions. I currently wear a GT-Air - but I use a Cardo Packtalk Bold. Placement of my comm unit on either the GT-Air 2 or the Neotec 2 seems a problem to me. A lesser nitpick - I wish the double d ring strap was still used.
An adapter plate that covers the Sena port but supports installation of a comm unit seems a good idea - to pen up the helmet to users of non-helmet specific comms.
Thanks for your commitment to riding and to the rider!
Superb presentation of Shoei Neotec 2. Kudos.
Well spoken, more information on each of the helmets than anyone else!! If I lived in the EU I would buy from you also... THANK YOU, the exact dilemma I am going through, Shoei or the C5. Going to try them on today!!
Great video as always and love my neo tech 2. Agree with all comments Re Cardo being superior so I put up with external attachments. What I still don’t understand is why the tinted visor doesn’t go all the way to the bottom! No one has ever been able to explain this!
I have both the SENA bluetooth and the newer mesh version in my Neotec-II. The newer mesh version has speakers that are a couple of mm thicker than the originals, and thus sit slightly closer to the ear. The mesh version also has better coils and also has much better noise reduction electronics. IMHO, the mesh version of the SENA is worth the price for the sound and reduced noise along.
I ride with a Shoei RF-1400 full face but went ahead and splurged on a Neotec 2 Winsome Red. It will be here in two days. Yay!
Side point: I still use a Sena 30K. It has been buggy in the past but with the latest firmware updates and new app, it’s unbelievably rock solid. I ordered a second mounting kit for the new helmet. No need to replace the Sena 30K for my needs.
I have the Shoei Neotec 2 and agree with Chris on most points including the not especially effective detents of the clear visor (which I seldom use) and pretty damn good Sena Bluetooth coms package (which I use for music and enjoy on every ride). That said, I say the helmet is not particularly quiet (at any speed) and doesn't really have much secondary ventilation (secondary meaning the little chin bar vent and scoop vent on top of the helmet). The best ventilation simply comes from riding with the clear shield up and the tinted sun visor down (assuming it's not raining and not after sunset). As Chriss mentions, riding with the lid flipped UP at slower speeds is a great way to gulp some cooler air when needed. Not sure I got the same attention to fit I would have received at Motolegends under Chris's watchful eye, but mine is quite comfortable to wear. My only problem (and I do mean PROBLEM) came from the portion of helmet padding directly on top of my head. That bit has a slotted pattern (sort of a padded grid) that I assume was intended to work in combination with the vent system on top of the helmet. As mentioned, that vent provides minimal (if any) actual ventilation, but the slotted padding does screw up you hair something AWFUL! When you remove the helmet, your hair will retain a negative impression of the slotted padding--meaning alternating rows of some hair UP and some hair DOWN. It short, you'll look bloody ridiculous. I tried solve that issue with all manor of hair nets and scarves with little effect. Finally I found a circular adhesive foam pad (intended to pad a bicycle helmet) which I placed over the slots. That solved the recently ploughed-look and gave me a more uniform and traditional SMOOSHED HAIR look most helmets provide. Not sure I'll bother upgrading to the Neotec 3 when available--I like my Neotec 2 as is. One last point Chriss didn't mention: the helmet is quite heavy--you don't notice when riding, but try walking around it for a while and you certainly will. I consider that feature rather than a bug, but I've read KLIM's helmet is significantly lighter (and much noisier).
A good review of the Neotec 2, I'm on my second now and the fit and quality of the plastics put Schuberth to shame.Stick a Cardo slim on there and its almost perfect, I'd love a larger eye port on the Neotec 3
I am amazed how you and a lot of other people praise Neotec 2 so much. It was the reason I bought one, however for me is the worst of the best helmets I have, if I make any sense. Either mine is defective, or it simply rejects me :). I am quite short, 171 cm, and I ride 3 bikes: Indian Scout Bobber, Indian FTR R Carbon and Triumph Rocket 3R, with GT shield installed. On ALL 3 bikes, the Neotec 2 is the noisiest helmet I have! I even tried to install Focal soundproofing membrane in it, but I got the same noise. The noise I get is in ears and temple sides, without air getting in. My fitment is perfect, I find it very comfortable, and is completely tight, but the noise is.. OMG... It might be related to the fact that I have a Cardo Black installed on it. Actually I will try to remove it and test it again. I did around 4k km with it and another 6k with Schubert C4 Pro Carbon last year. I find the C4 superior in every aspect, which I guess sits weird with you... The C4 Pro Carbon is quieter, lighter, softer inside, it has a bigger vertical field of view so I can see my dashboard without nodding all the time, I can open the shield with my both hands and it ventilates better. The only downside is the smaller pinlock. One big issue I have with the Neotec 2 is the concentration of air flow directly in one point on my forehead, when the sun visor is up and frontal vent is opened. I don't know how to fix that!!!! I tried with and without breather, I tried to obturate some of the vent holes - no luck, it is like the chinese droplet on my forehead. I sincerely would pay the transportation and fee to UK, to you to check my helmet and see if it is really defective or it simply hates me...
As always Chris as enjoyable as informative video 👍
Great review! I reiterate the comment already made, I sure wish we had MC stores like yours here in the US.
I totally agree with the feedback on the detents for the cracked position of the face shield, it's the worst part of my Neotec II. The detents throughout the range are lousy.
We run the Sena 50s and find that the battery life is higher using bluetooth but the sound quality is a bit better with the mesh. Mesh is also nice when you're riding with people you don't ride with all the time.
Good video. I have a Neotec 2 for three years now and do a 20k per year with it. I like the helmet very much until it starts raining (heavily). Then the water comes in via the vent on the chin. The water splashes from the inside of the vent onto my nose and the visor becomes wet on the inside. It doesn't matter if I close the vent. Water is still trickling through. Very annoying. But I found a solution: when it starts raining I put a piece of Ducktape over the outside vent. Yes, then the ventilation is gone and my spectacles get damp because of it, but then at least I keep the interior dry.
As always an informative vid. I have 3 Shoeis. A Qwest ( which i dont wear anymore) a GT-Air and a Neotec 2 and i find the Neotec the noisiest helmet i own. Its comfortable, I believe the fit is good and i did all the checks with a helpful guy in the shop when buying it. Its not rediculously loud but given all the reviews about it being quiet i expected it to be better than the others. That said i know many love the Neotec, several people i know have them. Just goes to show theres not one helmet thats perfect for all.
I found The GT-Air 1 pretty quiet but the GT-Air 2 and the Schuberth C4 noisy, the Schuberth noisy due to it's round shape letting noise in the sides. I now have a Neotech 2 and find it quiet. The down side being it's a bit on the heavy side and although it's snug neck fit helps keeps you warm in winter it can also trap Co2, something any helmet with a chin curtain can do. I am a big fan of Shoei. There is no real quiet helmet and I find myself using earplugs a lot.
Thanks for the reply. I also use earplugs as a matter of course. Interesting what you say about the GT-Air 2. As Chris says in the vid , expecting any helmet to be quiet in its environment is unrealistic. Out of all the helmets I own (which is getting a bit silly) the one I find the least noisy is a HJC Rpha 70.
I got to say, if I lived in the UK, after this video, I would simply go to your store to buy everything I needed. The knowledge and passion here is amazing.
Love my Neotec2, waited a year and a half for the TC 6
Great review on both helmets.....I have the neotec 2 with pactalk comms....I tried the sena but just had constant connection problems when pairing with the riding group that run pactalk..... I've fitted a 12v cloth mesh heater in the top of the helmet for winter riding and it plugs in along with my other heated gear mmmm bloody lovely
Really helpful, Im in the market for a new helmet and both the Shoei and C5 were tried on at the London Bike Show last Saturday. Almost bought the Shoei but was put off by the "lower safety standard" Makes a lot of sense now. Will try and get over to Guilford at the weekend. The fit seemed fine in a medium but want a double check!
Be aware they are closed at weekends iirc
@@mbrunskill thanks, I assumed they would be open Saturday! saved me a trip
Chris, I appreciate your videos. I recently went helmet shopping here in the States. I tried on the Neotec 2 and the Schuberth C5. Based on my shaped head the C5 was the winner. I road several hours with it this past weekend and couldn't be happier. I'm also glad that I bought the SC2 comms unit. I am a big Cardo fan but like the sleakness of having a built-in versus the clunkiness of taped on. Keep up the great content!
Have to say Chris, I've come from years of X-Spirit wearing and 2 yrs ago though I'd give the neotec2 a spin . Simply put , I'll never go back . Great video 🍻
I have used Cardo for many years, after swithing to Neotec II and SENA SRL2 I will never go back to CARDO. So much better sound in SENA and very easy to use
I have a Neotech 2. One thing you don't mention is that this helmet is a heavy helmet over 4lbs. Every year, I have to get use to the weight when I start riding again. If this helmet lost a lb, this helmet would sell out.
It’s a fair point, but all the things it contains, such as the mechanism, the sun visor and the built-in comms. mean that it is going to be heavier. Unfortunately, if they went full carbon, the helmet would get much noisier, and the comms. wouldn’t work as well. There’s no such thing as a free lunch! CP
Neotec 2 was the only one fitted well to my head (money was not a concern). Reasons to get a flip-up are very correct. It is extremally convenient, one thing was not mentioned - wearing glasses is very convenient with flip-up.
A bit of cons to my teste (very minor though):
- no crack open position (as mentioned on video)
- wind could hit through the cracks making noise and draft in cold weather
- closing helmet to the click with gloves is not always smooth you need to apply a bit of force but there is nothing to pull
- sun visor rather sliding than flips down while I'd prefer kinda dropping one (as in one of my old IXS helmets)
- chin strap is not perfectly aligned with my fat chin (again was smooth in my old IXS)
- I'd love to have same helmet with 180 flip option
Again those are quite minor, overall very good helmet and very comfortable lining.
There were 369 reasons I bought the N2….that is now the price paid following the N3 introduction. Yet to fit the cardo sh01 which looks a right faff.
Looks like the Schuberth C5 is almost a direct copy of the Shoei Neotec II!
As they say, "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery".
Really like my Neotech 2, must arrange a visit to check my fit. Agree about the crack vent position and a bit frustrating as can’t get a new visor at the moment.
What do you think of the shark type flip tops that go all the way back? Seems the best design to me
Thanks for the video, much appreciated.
I had a Schuberth C5 for a few months then changed to a Shoei Neotec 2. The C5 was definitely quieter and had better sound quality on the intercom, especially music. I couldn’t get the fit right with my (obviously) odd head shape🤪 I also didn’t like the intercom setup, where you have a separate battery powered controller which itself has to pair with the main unit - they’re both on the helmet so why not link with a wire? 🤷🏼♂️
The Shoei fits me better and am happy with it. You’re right about not being able to ‘crack’ the visor for some airflow, there should be another indent before it closes. The sound quality is a bit behind the C5 and I found it a little too quiet at speed - until I discovered the trick of telling the Bluetooth on your phone it’s not headphones. Now works better 👍🏻
Which device type did you select?
I have the Sena SRL2 Bluetooth system. Works great.
@@Builderman5 - I have the same. Sound quality could be better. What is the trick for telling your phone it's not headphones?
Thank you. Im on my 3rd Schuberth C3 C3 Pro and E1. They have all fitted me very well indeed. I have tried on the C5 and it just doesn't seem to fit. Whether a change in internal pads could bring that fit back I don't know. Ive tried 2 large outlets and there was no ready availability to change those pads for me to try. Will have to try the Neotec.
LOL
'Get on the train, buy a car...'
Good one😂
The Neotec 2 has a couple of problems. The visor doesn't sit on the first notch without keep falling down, the dark flip down visor isn't tinted enough so you still have to wear sunglasses !!! And the Sena commutation system hasn't enough voice controls.
Love your reviews 👍
Bought a Neotec 2 yesterday for the equivalent of £280 fitted in the currency where I was.
Hi Chris, interesting, informative and fair video...... BUT! Where is the HJC RPHA 90S (especially the carbon version), I'm guessing that ML don't sell HJC's as they are very mainstream. I recently looked around, tried the the Schuberth (I originally had a C1, 22 years ago), also the Shoei Neotech 2. But I was drawn to the features of the RPHA 90S carbon, such as dual homologation, Pinlock 120, multiply shell and pad options, excellent chin and neck skirting. Plus of course it's superb carbon finish which also helps make it unbelievably light. For me the medium fitted perfectly straight out of the box, the shape is oval, very Shoei like but that suits me. I have fitted a Cardo Pack Talk Bold to mine, but there is also an integrated Sena intercom option, much like the Shoei Neotech. My opinion is the 90S is definitely up there with the Schuberth and Shoei and is worthy of consideration.
These days, we tend only to offer helmets where we can change the cheekpads and headliners to custom fit it. You cannot do this with the HJC, so it’s pot luck. If it fits off the shelf, great. If it doesn’t, forget it. You can actually change the cheekpads within a shell size on an HJC, but when you do so you merely create the other size within that shell size, as the only difference between sizes is the ‘soft furnishings’. The eps sizes don’t change. So nice helmet, I am sure, but if we can’t add value, then a helmet isn’t for us. CP
@@Motolegends Thanks for the reply Chris... You are the expert! but from what I have seen the Shoei's (great lids... I have owned them) offer three sizes of centre and cheek pads in each EPS size. The HJC 90S for example has three different EPS sizes but two combinations of centre and cheek pads. So I'd agree that the Shoei gives a level of additional tweaking but mixing variants of centre and cheek pads does provide an element of added value. I reckon you'd sell plenty of HJC's and your Shoei and Schubert suppliers might be less than impressed :) Either way I'm very happy with my 90S.
@@danjf The issue is that when you change the pads in one size of helmet, you merely create the other size in that shell; so you can turn a Medium into a Large or vice-versa. You can’t, though, change the headliner, so there’s no scope for customisation. CP.
I'm actually suffereing from lots of windnoise at the ear area. Somewhere in my pads or helmet, air is rusing in.
I tried replacing the pads, having a shoei specialist fit my head and all but hte noise just comes at around 50-60kph.
Compared to my cheap 100usd LS2 flipup, shoei is really noisy.
Arai is so far the best, but it's not flipup.
Very Impressive presentation and info. Thanks for the complete honesty about the comparison to the C5.
We have used shoei neotecs since they came out and have been very satisfied, the neoteric 2s comms is great apart from sena will not provide spares eg the battery which one of our systems had fail also one of our systems couldn't be updated due it not communicating with a PC tried many. The only answer you get is buy a complete new system at £250 uk not funny.
Great video, not seen your chanel before, very good information. Are you the company who used to do m/c models, they used to have a stand at Goodwood Festival of speed.??. Keep up the good work.
No need for me to worry about the Schuberth. They aren't sold in NZ!
I bought a neotec 2 a week ago and tested it yesterday. I'll say I think it's the best padding on any helmet I've seen.
I'm comparing it to my LS2 Carbon Explorer, which has 12k miles on it. Quite honestly, I had big expectations for the N2!
Right out of the gate, the N2 looked like a winner. Couldn't wait to test it. It took less than half and hour to decide. It was not nearly as good as the LS2, and that was just the wind noise comparison.
Thankfully I bought it from Amazon and was able to return it.
My primary complaint with LS is they didn't honor their warranty when the sun shade mechanism failed. That was in just 4 months. Amazon took it back and replaced it with another for a small restocking fee, including a new Lexin com, which was permanently attached to the helmet.
The sun shade mechanism failed again on the second LS2 helmet. This time I decided to put up with it and use my hands to move it. I actually didn't use it much on the first, until I realized how great it was for wind protection and ride with the clear visor open.
The LS runs very small imo. I wear an xl in every other brand I've owned. This is a tight xxxl, and that's with removing half the thickness of the cheek pads.
So far, it's the best helmet option I've owned.
Makes me wonder, when the local bike shop's primary helmet selection is Shoei, are people just putting up with the issues?
Another great review
I wanted to try the C5 but refused to give up my perfectly working CARDO. By making it so the mic can't be removed, Schuberth alienated a large customer base. So, I purchased another NeoTec 2 and my CARDO fits nicely - as does my noggin.
What a good review. Subscribed
i have a sena 30k and dont really care to purchase the integrated version for this helmet. Can I still install my 30k on this helmet?.
Lost me when you said the visor don't have any levels of staying open. I often may want to only crack my visor 2 clicks open for airflow. This helmet maybe very nice but I don't think I can get past that 😞
Any news about a possible Neotec 3 since this vid?
You didn't deal with the issue of ease of operation of the SENA Neotec 2 specific unit while underway and with gloves on.
Had mine 2 years...comfy with lid up....a struggle to get lid down......aches behind ears with lid down.....11000 km onto it....decent helmet but $1100 canadian is grim...mine is mat black xxl....wish i could have got a different design
in 2023 they make helmet with a visor you can open only with left hand!!! Sometimes you need to open visor while holding clutch!
Is the BMW system Seven not in the running as an option? I need to upgrade my C3pro... I had a Shoei years ago and liked it but my C3 has been superb. I have some money to spend with BMW and can't decide which way to go..although I would probably go for the E2 rather than a C5 if I went with Schuberth as it is essentially a C5 with a peak and imo looks great with the peak removed..i think it possibly has better venting than the C5. I also particularly like the way Schuberth integrate their Comms units. Tough decision...would be interested in your opinion...E2, system 7 or Shoei Neo2
Hi Chris. Thanks for another top-notch video plenty of useful tips and info. One comment: I have tried the Neotec2 in a shop, in the M-size (according to the size table my head circumference falls in this range) and I have to say is not as comfortable as the Arai Tour-x that I have. Maybe it fits better oval shape heads rather than my rounded head, don't know. Would you find this strange? Is something that you heard before about the comfort compared to other top brands?
I want to comment on the comparison of the Neotec 2 to the C5. I have the C5 as well as the C4 and the C3. I have used Schubert's for several years. The C5 fails dramatically for me in the face shield. The detents for each position are far too slight and the shield doesn't like to stay in any one position. What's worse though is how it locks into the "down" position. The tabs on each side of the shield that are meant to snap the shield into place are really poorly designed and the shield struggles to lock down. I finally gave up a month ago and went to the Neotec 2. I was rewarded with all the other good qualities it shares with the C5 and the shield works flawlessly. Yes, its first position should be smaller for simple airflow but that's a minor nit. Get the Notes 2 and pass on the C5 in my view. At a minimum, pay close attention to how that shield works and make sure you are ok with it. Note that I verified this issue with two different C5's. It's a problem pattern. Great channel folks and thanks for creating this!
Received mine today and im not sure i cannwear it. The chin strap buckle sits firmly against my adams apple. Very annoying. The RF-1200 it is replacing does not have that issue.
I've heard of a possible neotec III
I am in the market for a new helmet and I happen to have a Shoei head shape. I tried both the Neotec II and the Schuberth C5. As expected, the Neotec II was instantly comfortable while the Schubert needed tweaking in the cheek area. The thing is that Schuberth got the timing for the ECE 22 06 right. Shoei also knew that this new safety standard was coming. However, Shoei needs another year or so to present an independent homologation. To me this is a disappointment which is why I am going with the Schuberth C5.
We have 3 Neotec 2’s!
Are you from the same town as Michael Caine?
I just got called an old fart!
But I'm still biking. 😉
Want the same package but cheaper: Scorpion ADX-2 with their Com system. Good enough for most, but better field of vision and the visor stops where it should😊
Well, if the time frame you predict for getting the Neotec 3 is realistic, not many will bother to wait so long. After all the Schuberth C5 IS, already on sale.....Many other helmet makers have, also, already, released helmets with ECE-R 22.06 .... They may be not SO refined, but for some, it's better to replace the helmet more frequently, than keep it for many years, just because it's SO fucken expensive.
Shoei better take the finger out 'nd start sending the newest helmets to shops pretty fast 😀 And NO - I'm not buying the OLD model, with OLD safety standard, unless they go for, at least 1/2 price !
"If your bike is to noisy then maybe go and buy an electric as I have heard they are quiet" - Nearly made me spit my coffee out laughing 😂
This is the only flip front helmet I would buy, I might borrow a lesser one, but this is the only one I'd actually pay for :).
The Schuberth C5 is a joke in comparison.
Can I ask is this a special Shoei? I went on to have a look but the markings are different in what I can buy here in the UK
Hi I’ve ordered a Shoei x14 pro can you recommend the best comes that fits the helmet ? I’ve iPhone and Ducati diavel many thanks in advance Derek 👍
The problem with that helmet is that I can't hear my engine as much as I'd like.
Is it easy to flip the visor up on this Shoei Neotec 2?
I'm still hoping for Shoei to release a new Hornet with an integrated sun visor...
any helmet that has the chin piece sitting on top like a sail is not a good idea, that’s why I went for the LS2 valiant
Having a large melon with an oval to long oval shape, the Neotec II 2x was the only modular helmet that I could get on my head at the shop.
Is the run off why it’s so hard to find a replacement standard visor? Don’t have them in stock by any chance? Thanks
No, not sure that’s the reason, as even when the Neotec 3 comes out they will need to support the Neotec 2 for years to come. I think it’s just a cock up. They are now due in April, we are told. CP
9:43 ... helmet noise? No need to take the train, buy a car or stay home. The easiest way to reduce helmet noise without spending anything is to learn and apply a technique of using the muscles around your ears to put pressure on the mechanism of the ear. This method works regardless of helmet or what earplugs you use. Imagine holding your nostrils, closing your mouth and trying to take in a deep breath through your nose ... this will assist in putting the 'park brake' on your ear drums. At the same time as you try breathing in through your blocked nose, try to 'pull' your ear drums into the centre of your head ... then all goes quiet (guaranteed to block out the sound of a nagging wife!). This will kill the wind noise when riding, yet you'll still hear the essential sounds (eg your own bike exhaust, emergency sirens). When you get to your destination, take off the helmet, pinch your nose and try to breath out through your nostrils to 'release the parking brake' of your ear drums. Putting your ear drums on hold takes a little practise, however once mastered, it becomes a standard routine prior to a ride. If you have a quiet helmet and wear ear plugs as well, then you may find that riding your bike is actually more quiet than driving a car.
I've been using a Neotec 2 for about three years but when this one needs replaced I'll not buy another Shoei for one reason: the moronically bad visor attachment mechanism. I can change an Arai or Schuberth in less than 20 seconds; the Shoei is normally five minutes of fighting and pain. It's so bad I suspect that Shoei did it as a practical joke on its customers. It's really a pity because the Neotec 2 really works for me so long as I don't need to change the visor or take it off to do a complete cleaning.
Hi. I currently own a C4 carbon and find the ventilation very poor.
I Wear prescription glasses and cannot ride with the visor shut, which is a real pain during bad weather due to fogging.
What in your experience is the better out of the Neotec or C5 for this issue?
Thanks
David.
I have a Neotec 2 and I find the ventilation terrible. My C3 was way better.
Niether will be brilliant in this respect. Both these helmets are quiet because their tighter neck roll stops air getting in. But this stops air getting out, thus exacerbating misting up. So this is the downside to a good-quality flip, (cheap flips don’t suffer in the same way). Now this was a particular issue with the C4 because it had such a large outer visor. And it was made worse by the fact that Schuberth fitted a cheap, inferior lookalike Pinlock. Fit a genuine 120 Pinlock, and you will improve the position. Both the Neotec and the C5 will be better than the C4, but the issue will not go away completely. One trick, obviously, is to make sure both vents are open, but I’m sure you realise this. CP
I swore by SHOEI for decades but when I went over to a Modular (NEOTEC II) i was gob smacked to discover that my beloved CARDO system would not fit. They had configured the helmet to have a SENA system. Why? I've tried the SENA system and sorry US it's rubbish. So SHOEI lost one customer and HJC won one.
Do helmets (Neotec 2) still have 5 years lives? By the way the com’s are good - just the battery life sucks - just saying).
Yes, five years is kind of the norm these days. CP
@@Motolegends yes, just watched your vlog on when to change your helmet and I agree there’s no ‘real’ set time except if the helmet has taken a real whack. It’s kind of like food expired - the companies expiry date is a CYA!
How come at a race track, where the RIDERS can afford ANY brand of helmet, you only see three brands worn during the race??? 85% of the racers wear Simpsons. Why? Because they've either done like me and slid one nearly a half-mile at 200+ MPH or SEEN someone slide one! Only other two brands I've EVER seen are AGV and Arai and both of those the riders were PAID 6 figures to wear, oh and let's see, those are the only three brands APPROVED to wear by the AMA and FIM for racing! An evil Yamaha TZ750 spit me off at 209.08 MPH and the track and my head wore my "Bandit" thru to the foam, while the bike shot-up the Armco barrier on the front straight. I slid "gently" to a stop against the hay bales, counted my fingers and toes, staggered over to the Simpson trailer, got a new brain bucket, undies, got new leathers, boots and gauntlets, pushed the ole' TZ back runnin' and re-entered the next heat.
Am I the only one who chokes on the neotec? I can't look down because the lock at the neck is pressing my throat
Best for noise use moulded ear plugs agree with mesh
You seem to have a lot of bias towards the Shoei helmet although you have admitted that the Schuberth is a better helmet. Without even using the Schuberth to give it a fair shake you give it a great deal of grief.
A key Helmet feature for me is a Sun Visor ..... I wont buy a helmet that doesn't offer a good one ..... Flip lids fail
I don’t understand. Why do they fail? Never heard anyone complain about the sun visor on a Neotec a C3 or a C5. CP
Love the helmet, but Sena is rubbish
I use it every second day
The speakers are rubbish, old model not the new one
Had two srl2 units fail within 24 hrs , due to riding in a storm , water ingress, how?
No one repairs or will even look at them.
Over a thousand dollars in intercoms gone
No one I know personally has a good word for Sena , Shoei should distance themselves from them.
Cheers
Hi, can I come in next week for a helmet fitting? Best Regards, Stewie Griffin
Any time, except weekends! CP
What a great review… very professional and knowledgeable! 👍
Any time; well except weekends! CP.
I have the hjc Rpha 11. I have Cardo fitted. Annoyingly the hjc speaker cut outs are not near my ears so I can't really hear anything.
Problem with video. No, problem with tablet
Old farts lol
Funny how any faults you find will be your fault.
Buy a Scorpion helmet save yourself a bunch and just as comfy, I own both
Always liked the Shoei helmets but over the years found them too expensive and started wearing NEXX helmets. But recently I found a Neotec 2 on sale at around £525, it was a no-brainer so I bought it. The one thing I find a problem with is fitting an external comms system, there are not that many flat surfaces. It's like they're trying to force you to buy the built-in comms package.
I've heard the Packtalk clip will work after removing the blank cover on the helmet. Hoping so anyway as I just ordered a second helmet kit with the JBL speakers because I threw the first clip out. Packtalk Bold seems to be discontinued but was able to order the kit.
@@bradleygordon5973cardo’s sh01 edge solo or duo system is designed to fit. Battery pack sized to fit in the rear compartment and their clip system fits the slender controls and main unit to left and right sides. N2 is lots quieter than my shark Spartan FF.
Who??
Is that a non certified Amazon special???
Looked at their website! Doesn’t mention the word safety once looked up it sharp rating and it’s a poor 3* my first HJC cost less and got 5*
Do not make me laugh!
Pleased to be in the lucky position of wearing a Shoei X-spirit 3 now (thanks son! Wants to keep dad safe) but there are great HJC’s for less money that this Nexx crap that are massively safer!
Excellent information. I sure wish we had dealers like this in the US.
So very true! Motolegends sets the international standard.
Chris, great video as always, very informative. I like you would only trust an Arai RX7 back in the day when I rode sports bikes. However I now only use a Neotec 2, and it’s simply brilliant.
I've had a Neotech 2, fitted by yourself. It was the best, quietest, most comfortable helmet I have had. The ventilation was also excellent. I crash tested mine when a car took me out and it was fantastic in a crash. Highly recommended. If I return to biking in the future I will get another.
that was hilarious, an unexpectedly dark twist 💀 get well soon sir, get back to biking soon
@@moonchipss Thank you. Yes I do want to return.
The SENA comms system in Neotec 2 and C5 has a great identical problem.
The accu is not available , its a custom made size and Sena does not sell it, they want you to buy a new comms. This is a problem if you ride long tours, like we do between 20-25000km/year. Than after 3 years the accu is weak and does not last a full day.
I am not for more laws generell, but here a EU wide law is needed that accus in devices must be replaceable by enduser.
A very intelligent, enjoyable presentation that's also immensely informative! 🙂
Given that I already own a Neotec2 and the length of the video, I don't know why I started to watch, but it was definitely worth it.
I have a long oval head and always looked for the holy grail that would perfectly fit it. Fit for the head shape is often overlooked, but is a prime safety feature that I put over almost any other features when I buy a helmet. Unfortunately, you can't necessary feel in the shop if the helmet will give you unbearable headache after half a day of wearing.
I tried several models in the last 25 years, and found that long oval head is best served with BMW, Schuberth, Caberg and the Shoei flip-ups. At least these are the ones I owned. Many brands that produce otherwise desirable helmets simply only fit round heads so I always had limited choice.
But here is the experience I want to spread here: none of them were a perfect fit, after half a day of riding I was always relieved to take them off. Except the Neotec2.
When I had to change my Schubert c4 after an accident, I tried the c5 on, and was surprised that it was not a long oval anymore, but more rounded. Custom fit parts were not available yet, so I went for the Neotec2. I bought it and without any break-in, the next day I used it on a 600km tour. The weather was cold, and I didn't take the helmet off even when we stopped for breaks, it was so bloody comfy even after hours of riding that I just enjoyed wearing it as a cap in the cold. After 23 years of riding I found a helmet that was like casted on my head. It's an unspeakable joy and I can only hope the next version will not change internal shape as Schuberth did. The Neotec2 is also the best quality feel helmet I ever had, no cracking sounds when I put it on/off or operate the chin or visors.
The negative that was not mentioned in the video: bugs can freely reach your hair/skin via the top ventillation channel :((. (Same with the Schubert c4! They fixed it with the c5). So I installed a bug net DIY-way.
I have been wearing a Shoei Neotec 2 for 2 years and do about 15000 to 17000 miles a year. Excellent helmet. Great Video.
i must be the only owner which finds Neotech 2 noisy - the wind noise is deafening , i have to stuff the ear plugs in so far - i can not really listen to the SRL2 intercom , there appears to be no visor adjustment i have searched all of youtube
