- This footage of a heavy cargo drop followed by Airborne Soldiers jumping at the Deadhorse drop zone for Arctic Pegasus 2014. This mobility exercise enables the military to build proficiency in Arctic Airborne operations in extreme cold-weather conditions. Arctic Pegasus 2014 is a Joint-Interagency Military training exercise held above the Arctic Circle, with a goal to enhance U.S. Army Alaska's mobility and operability in arctic conditions.

Been on a few of these drops in a C-130 with Special Forces just inside the Arctic Circle in Norway back in late 60s. Those were some fun days.
The hardest part about jumping out of a perfectly good airplane is the 6 hour wait with no bathroom break before the flight.
Wait soldiers cant use bathroom during the flight?
dallas yap no go. Using the bathroom compromises your Jump gear.
@@TheGargoyle how does it compromise the jump gear? I mean u just take it off, go to bathroom then put the gears back on.
dallas yap not when i was in you didn’t
@@TheGargoyle well sorry I havent been in the Army, so I don't know how those jump gears work.
This brings back memories. I went to Northern warfare training center in fort greely Alaska. Those vehicles are called anfibious susves. They were put out first on the heavy drop. Then we jumped out with Snowshoes, and weapons. That was over 40 years ago. Time flies.
Do you remember how many men died ? They had one in 1955 and the planes started going down in the USA, across Canada and finally in Alaska.
Yes it does! Airborne
Same, Cold weather training in Vicenza Italy; jumping into Asiago with 1/509th Inf. ( airborne) S.E.T.A,F. Over 40+ Anni, although it was tailgating from a CH- 47 Chinook
@@509Heavydrops21w2
@@509Heavydrop Back in those days personnel and heavy drops could not go out of the same aircraft. Times have changed!

Thank you so much AIRBORNE.
i love the cheers as the vehicles are released.
Salute to all these soldiers God bless you and thank you for everything you dew for this country the 🌎 and us
Will always be proud of my efforts at Douglas when we built the C-17.
I first heard about the C-17 when Reagan was in office, and the way he built our military he and Weinberger and I can't remember the other guy but anyway he gave us the right combination of aircraft tanks everything we got the F-16 out of it the Abrams tank Airline battle 2000
They seem so calm.
Jumping out of a C-5 Galaxy felt like 2 opening shocks at the same time! Did it once; not bad, but I'll keep my good old C-130 jumps!
Haha lol
Me too. C130
This is a C-17.
Keith C thank you for serving our country. Are you still deployed or home?
@@karenhermon8926 Been home for many years now, and thank you.
I was an Arctic paratrooper. I'm amazed to see they still wear VB boots. Booya! AATW. FT. Wainwright, Ak.
Best damn cold weather boots I've ever worn. We called them Mickey Mouse boots. I was at Ft. Rich for a spell back in the early 90's. A bit warmer climate than Ft. W.
Yep! same here, just got to wonder if everybody has opened the VALVE to allow the air inside the boots to escape. remember very well some newbie having a BLOW OUT at altitude!
@@willie_mccoy yep, used the black mickey mouse boots in Korea. the white ones we used at Fort Wainwright, Alaska and can remember some newbie always forgets to open the valve in the boots, otherwise they have a BLOW OUT at altitude!
Thank you for your service
I remember the C130 jumps, if you didn't have a strong exit, you would hit the side of the plane, I have heard many people bouncing off the side. Kinda hilarious, in jump school they told you many times, do a strong jump, or you will pay. How can I forget the 34ft tower. Jumping over and over until you did it perfect. Ahh the memories!
Wow! That's a Hell of thing!
Brave men. All of u. U have my respect and thank u for your service
I proudly served and jumped the C46/47 , 119 , 130 and 2 helicopters long ago. Airborne!
Здарова, десантура !
Outstanding .I salute each and every one of you 😍😍
Wow, they all jump with no fear 😮❤
Love the wind deflector that is pushed out so that initial blast doesn't get you while in the door.
I noticed that too! 😁 It's awesome!
It is helpful.

Hi
@tbone1492, unless you're jumping a missile pack! Nobody wants to be around then.
Unbelievable these soldiers!
Damn...Don't miss those winter rucks! Granted, they make for a good exit. Once the ruck hits the slipstream, you just get sucked out.
I’m really surprised they jump with no eye protection, especially in the cold
why would we? the shit would fly off your head as soon as you jump anyway
My guess as it says it was practice and they were probably jumping here in the US. Maybe Fort Drum. If you look, 2 "jumpers" didn't have any gear on at all and were dressed for warm temperatures.
@@trvman1 It says in the video description they were above the Arctic circle.
Once you exit the bird your back is to the wind, and with the adrenaline you don't feel the cold until you hit the ground. Its a good time

I get the Santa Bin part but why the “loggin” ?
@@MarcLloydZ Loggin’ because they’re landing in a turndra
Apart from it was a Heli insertion which went bad. Again.
glad that they were given gloves. after years in the Army in a lot of northern climes, my hands still suffer the most from frost bite
When the GWOT kicked off the Army finally got smart about boots, gloves and ballistic armor.
I like watch their videos
The look from the guy at 3:00 is CLASSIC!! “GET ME OFF OF THIS FUCKING AIRCRAFT!!” This was some GREAT editing. Anyone that’s DONE this knows that they went HOURS without going to the bathroom, doing an in-flight rig (because they entered the A/C WITHOUT their gear on), getting JMPI’d, waiting for the equipment to go out and THEN you get to jump and getting the 100+ pounds off of your back and legs!!
That"s what Huggies are for. If you've ever been on a C-130 for 6 hours taking off from Pope, making a loop around Cuba and predawn jumping on Holland DZ, you know what I mean.
@@946towguy2 I do. I took off MANY times from Pope and NEVER wore a Huggies.
@@paulmorris6177 Well, then it must have been raining lemonade on the DZ when you landed or there were some wet seats on the bird.

Gotta love the guy at the door with a square chute with brakes watching all the others jump with round chutes with no brakes, they hit a lot harder
What?
@@IndraSunrise The speed at which you hit the ground depends on what type of chute you have.
Dwight, how many times did you look up and see panels missing? After you count the missing panels you realize how hard your gonna hit the ground.

Nice training
I loved watching this footage and love high altitudes. Any that can't be dropped by plane?
if it can fit inside the C141, it can be rigged and dropped.

Yes sure Mariana, but the country and people in it need defense and protection so we must ensure that is done.
Surprised at how little treads appear to be on their boots.
Its to not let the enemies follow there tracks, it quite smart.
No idea what it’s like now but back in the ‘60’s when stationed in Alaska they expected soldiers to SKI with those Damn boots ! They kept your toes from Freezing but had virtually Zero traction on any type of snow. Hard to believe they’re using (Mickey) “Mouse” (VB) boots still today ! (Given the appearance and sole tread, etc.)
Love it...AATW
An Arctic jump is one I never made. Glad of it I hate the cold. Made that jump up for one small group.

at 3:09 the guy leaning out... looks like he has neither a chute not a safety rope, or is his lil backpack a chute in case he falls out?
He's wearing a parachute he doesn't need one though
That's the AEBP. It's a parachute... but it needs twelve hundred fifty feet altitude. They're are one thousand feet AGL, so they need to be very careful.
This would scare the crap out of me!!! Cheers to the brave men and women who do this.
It was all men.

How does the plane retrieve all the static lines after the jumps?

Jumping out on cold weather is a big challenge. Freez air coming all the way to your body till you landed
While working for the federal government, I met a soldier in uniform. We started talking and he said he was leaving for winter training. I asked where in Alaska he was going. He said he was not going to Alaska, he was going to Camp Drum in New York State.
God bless our country and especially our military. And God bless all the soldiers that are serving our country.

According to the information, this was a jump to build proficiency in extreme cold weather conditions, so do we have an outside temperature when they jumped?
Dan Rodrigues 🤷🏽♂️ can’t be that bad, no eye pro, light gloves, no face protection... just speculation but maybe a low level summer jump?
