    I'm sorry but 50£ is nothing in tunisia and even in your country so before complaining about food consider the price point. If you pay more you get more there are multiple hotels in tunisia that are way more expensive like "La badira", or "hasdrubal" or even "les orangers" in hammamet. Speaking about your reservation problem, the extra money paid is totally normal for a same day reservation all around the world

    • @andrewhoult
      @andrewhoult 19 днів тому +2

      I think he's referring to the tourist tax, its normally included in TUI bookings but they probably messed up.
      Onthebeach don't include it but they do mention that it will cost extra when you book, I paid £34 tourist tax for 2 people for 5 days. The phenicia was definitely a good hotel, les orangiers was next door and did look fancy but I was happy with the staff at the phenicia.

    • @youssefjouini7850

      @@andrewhoult no sir they are talking about the price going up a little bit because they came to the hotel a week late.
      Do you actually think that such mistake can cost you 0£ in any country you visit ? of course not.

    • @andrewhoult
      @andrewhoult 18 днів тому +1

      @@youssefjouini7850 Fair enough then, didn't notice the week late bit. Normally I'd expect bookings through agencies like TUI and they do often include all extras etc. Looking at Yads other vids it seems like they are in Tunisia for a while rather than a specific booked trip from the UK so they may have done it direct with the hotel. I did have to pay tourist tax myself at the hotel but perfectly normal if not through one of the larger agencies and I wasn't bothered about the cost. It was strange to see all the paperwork they had to do though, I didn't have any of that at the Phenecia. They also had fresh fruit and squeezed juice out at breakfast, no problem.

    no fresh fruit is really sad, i was staying in Iberostar kuriat palace in Monastir and there i paid 630 euro for 7 nights and there they had fresh fruit and fresh pressed juices every morning, and fresh fruit at lunch and dinner to. And also there was always live cooking/baking at breakfast, lunch and dinner. and in between there was more food, drinks and snacks in a smaller restaurant. To be honest , what you need to know about hotels is that they sell their rooms to Tour Operators like TUI in this case at a volume and much cheaper rate. The part you said it was cheeky it’s actually what a normal Tunisian or any customer who walks in would have paid. The blame is on TUI that have had to readjust your reservation.
    As for the food I completely agree very poor , there is a lot better places , a 5 star also should provide smellies in the room all dishes and cutlery should be branded . I would say that’s more of a 4 star standard not including the food

    I stayed 5 days in the phenecia hotel in hammamet sud recently, £390 all inc for 2 people and that included the flights...
    The hotel was actually really good along with the tours they could arrange (£100 for 2 for an all day visit to Tunis inc Carthage, Sidi Bou Said and the souk and they also did a quad bike and camel ride trip for £40 for 2 direct from the hotel and they charged using UK bank visa in sterling, no currency exchange costs). Wish I could say the same for the hawkers but they seemed really desperate in December to grab tourists and try to sell stuff at ludicrously inflated prices. The worst was yasmine hammamet medina with conmen all over the place. On the flip side they did have some fixed price shops that were alright and a few smaller shops here and there that were reasonable. Pupput just down the beach from the phenecia is well worth a visit too, some roman mosaics sat out in the open. Food was actually very impressive, better in fact than the usual stuff in the canaries for example. The hotel staff seemed to manage English better than Morocco too imho, despite me having decent french and some basic arabic they insist on it :)
    The airport security at Enfidah is a bit of a nightmare as there are several sections to go through and even a drug swab on the way out which didn't allow us to get a smoke in (of normal tobacco I'd have to add after reading this back lol) before catching the plane but at least its under 3 hours for the flight.
    My guess is its best in summer as you probably won't get hassled by street vendors as much and more stuff is open etc but its definitely a bargain destination in winter and the weather is reasonable around 18-20C or so.
