Freezing your bag of rice as soon as you bring it home from the store and leaving it in the freezer for at least four days will kill the adult bugs and possibly their eggs. (freezer time may vary upon the research you do) It’s your personal choice what you fill your gnomes with. Just have fun making them!
You can also mix some food-grade diatomaceous earth in with the rice and it will kill any type of bugs and their eggs. It is non-toxic and I use it all the time. If it is windy, I cover my mouth when applying it because it is a fine powder. Also, I mix it with water and use it as a spray.

Rice needs to be frozen so you don’t get little bugs. I use cat litter, the gravel kind, not expensive and doesn’t get bugs. Easy to store and stands up better. 👍
Thank you, I'm going to make them for next year. I crochet a lot of lap robe for our local VA Hospital. I love making and giving my items away to hospitals and nursing homes. I made a gnome using your video. Thank you so much. Instead of new socks I used items from the thrift shop: white sports socks; upcycled sweaters sleeves for the body and the hat.I even found a piece of fur for the beard. I used a sewing machine to construct the clothing pieces but they could be sewn by hand too. Actually one sweater could make many gnomes. Very cute.
The gnomes are just to cute!! I am not to crafty, just had to try to create a gnome or two! Took me a little longer then 15 minutes and I love the finished gnome!
So very cute. I am going to get my granddaughter to help me make some as gifts for Christmas. She is 14 and a big help. Arthritis and joint pain make crafting a challenge, but I am fortunate to have her help. Thank you!
Started making these for this Christmas. Very easy to make. I did use wood noses and less beard to show the shirt underneath. Also glued them to a wood slice so they stand up forever. I used my own old white socks! Four cups of rice was perfect. Had to order the little rubber bands from Amazon, but they really work great. Added the jingle bell and I am really pleased with how they turned out. Again, her directions are easy to follow and you can keep the cost down by making the beards a little smaller.
These little gnomes are so cute. I bought socks last year, to make some of these, but never got around to doing it. I discovered the bag of socks a few days ago, so watching this video has inspired me to make a start. Thanks.
These are so fun to make! I’ve already made 4 and will be making 4 more. I used solid colored anklet socks (black) to cover the white sock and stitched them in place so no white shows through. I’m going to use mini red bows with Christmas buttons & bells as decoration for the hats. I can’t wait to give them away as gifts & see everyone’s expressions! Even my husband thought they were cute. Have fun making these.

Did you make snowmen out of the white sock tops? I love the gnomes, made 12 yesterday! So fun! They are adorable! I made a felt backpack that I glued to the gnomes back. It opens up so you can put a gift card, note, or lip gloss! Great grandkid st nick day gift!
I loved the look of these so i decided to try to make it myself! They turned out so adorable!!! So much so that i actually made 3 of them, giving one each to my sisters and keeping one for myself! Thank you for the easy-to-follow instructions.
When cutting fur I find that a very sharp craft knife will do wonders to prevent all the fibers from getting everywhere! It’s a little more difficult on smaller pieces, so an extra set of hand would be helpful to pull the material taut in this case.
I REALLY ENJOYED WATCHING ON HOW YOU MADE THE CHRISTMAS GNOMES, THEY ARE ADORABLE. I WILL TRY IT AND PRAY MINE COME OUT HALF AS CUTE AS YOURS. THANK YOU FOR SUCH A CUTE AND GREAT IDEA AND YOU ARE A GREAT TEACHER ALSO!!!!

I made three of these last year after watching her video and I'm going to make more this year. They are quick, easy and fun to make and so cute when they're done.
This was the first of your videos that I have watched. I wanted you to know how much I enjoyed watching you make that sweet little gnome. I think that I will make one for my daughter, granddaughter and myself, because they are the cutest little things.
Thank you for teaching me how to make them.
The rice would be easy to put in the sock using a Ball canning funnel.
I recycle plastic bottles to fill bird feeders. They would work well for these too.
I absolutely love that you put this video out! Working with a group of adults with challenges, watching the video, pausing between each step, helps them make these lovely gnomes to raise money for their organization and make gifts for others. You speak in an easy to understand way and it keeps everyone calm. You are truly a blessing!! Thank you so much!!
Im so happy that your group was able to make these little gnomes! I really appreciate your kind comments!
excellent host, best I've seen on demonstration. thank you for passing along how-to Hope to see more of you
Those are the cutest Gnomes ever and I plan on making some myself this holiday season. Thanks.

Great gnome recipe. We now have a dozen hanging around for Christmas.
I'm making these for all my friends...whether they like it or not!! Also, white aquarium gravel will work just fine.

Lol, well I think you're a wonderful friend bc no matter what your friends' personal tastes are, who couldn't love these adorable little guys!?☺️
fake snow may work too
@@marinal. it might be too light on its own. I think you would need something heavier in the bottom
Oh yes!!! I"ll be your friend!!😂😂😂😂
I 💕 these little gnome's.
Thank you for the great tip, yes rubber band dry out, & so great they make it easy to tie bows/string.

First tutorial I have seen where the nose is made from the body and not a separate part ... GREAT idea! It was fun to watch and listen as you created the little fella. TFS your idea.
Hello Happy Merry Christmas to you. I hope you are safe and having a good weather. Nice to meet you.
I'm so excited to make one. Thank you for your video

I spent hours looking at different DIY Gnome videos. This is the VERY BEST! Excellent job, and so very cute! Thank you!
I've seen these gnomes made with a pair of boots on the bottom...the kind that come as ornaments to hang on a Christmas tree.
Super cute.
Nicely done. Easy
Did you make snowmen out of the white sock tops? I love the gnomes, made 12 yesterday! So fun! They are adorable! I made a felt backpack that I glued to the gnomes back. It opens up so you can put a gift card, note, or lip gloss! Great grandkid st nick day gift!
Can you post a photo of the backpack?
Adorable and cute ,thank you for sharing ♥️♥️💐💐
Can I just say how much of a joy it was watching your video!!! Just hearing you all gitty made me love it more! I want to make me some “chunker gnomes” I’m going to do it with my children and give them as Christmas gifts and put a card with a pin on it that sayes “so you gnome what to do with stress”

Lindsey F you are going to have so much fun making these little gnomes. They make great gifts for family and friends...... that is if you can part with one!
You might like to fill the cup with the rice and put the sock over the cup and tip it in. Such cuties.
So adorable!!! Your comments are so funny "Oh, isn't he cute!!" I enjoyed this tremendously! Thank you!!
I also thought so. I had such a good giggle, watching the video and listening to the commentary!X
Love these. I added eyes which gave him more personality. I also cut the bottom out of the red cup and made a funnel for pouring the rice. Lots easier. Thanks for a great video.
