Freezing your bag of rice as soon as you bring it home from the store and leaving it in the freezer for at least four days will kill the adult bugs and possibly their eggs. (freezer time may vary upon the research you do) It’s your personal choice what you fill your gnomes with. Just have fun making them!
Miriam's Crafting Cottage Cute Gnomes so easy who doesn’t have odd socks 🧦
You can also mix some food-grade diatomaceous earth in with the rice and it will kill any type of bugs and their eggs. It is non-toxic and I use it all the time. If it is windy, I cover my mouth when applying it because it is a fine powder. Also, I mix it with water and use it as a spray.
@@wiseowls117 we use it for natural flea control too. Please be sure to cover your nose too. Even though it's natural and organic it can really harm your lungs.
@@trollyforest2618 Amen. I had to argue with two different older ladies about this same thing. Terrible management for not showing their employees the ins and outs on things in this department ( or at least a howt oli st behind the counter for them to see and know how).
@@wiseowls117 NO worries it won't hurt you if it gets into your mouth or nose thankfully. A lot of us with Lyme Disease and RMSF use it to detox and on our gardens a lot etc. I have asthma and a co- infection that affects my lungs and this does wonders for my lungs.
These are some of, if not THE cutest ones I've seen, but what I love, as soon as you tie off the white sock, these gnomes become alive in your heart!
Wow what a wonderful idea thanks for sharing.
I have an honest-to-goodness question. How in the world could you watch this video and give it a thumbs down?????? I LOVED it! I am a gnome making fool!! lol!
I know! Over 400 dislikes???????
Jealous people 🙄
I agree completely!
Doesn’t make sense, must be a bunch of Scrooges!
I wondered the same thing🤦♀️
Haters be hatin
adorable gnoms :-)
I am not a gnome person but I wanted ideas for crafts to do with my kids and I am so glad I watched this. What a brilliant and informative tutorial. Not only was it clear and straight to the point but I absolutely loved how much you spoke about his personality and gave him a little persona as you were making him. It made the video quite magical. Definitely going to be making some gnomes with my kids now. Thank you for sharing this.
Nicely done. Easy
I love how you’re falling in love with him as you make this. So cute. Thanks n
Yes! Me too!
Me too. She’s like a sweetheart.
Have you ever watched the Jenny Jones cooking channel here? She's super sweet and funny too. She's the same Jenny Jones that had that talk show years ago.
@@debbietencza190 I’ll be sure to look her up. Yes I know the show you’re referring to. 😃
@@johannebrunner6477 You'll love it!
Nice Christmas gifts. I did enjoy this video. Thanks for sharing.
I watched a gazillion of these “how to make a gnome“ videos and yours is the first one that has ever emphasize the need to reinforce the rubber band, and you do it without using hot glue! You make a perfect example/argument for why you do this and you were absolutely correct, the rubber band will the grain, and glue will harden so that won’t necessarily work. Tying a string is ingenious!
Thank you so much for watching! I really appreciate your comments!
I really need to give you my (belated) thanks for making this video. I stumbled upon it 3 years ago and my other half and I have since made it a tradition to make a new gnome each, every year. He looks forward to it so much that he will spend weeks searching for different coloured socks and working out a new "theme" for the years gnome.
That is such a fun tradition…… I love it! Thank you so much for watching and the kind comment!
I've watched other ladies, you really taught me something that none of them mentioned. It was how you cut the fur from in back, and then, Pull. How neat! Thank you! Use a blush brush to apply the blush, it goes on easier and quicker, than with a small brush.
Looking forward to seeing more ideas from you!
Tom Valveede I’m so glad that I had a tip that could help......... and thank you for the brush tip! I hope you’ve had a chance to make one of those adorable gnomes!
@@miriamscraftingcottage8980 I am making a gnome from your tutorial now. My 1st one ever. =0)
Excellent Gnome lesson.
"he's a little chunker" - you're so funny! Can't wait to make these.
Thank you, I'm going to make them for next year. I crochet a lot of lap robe for our local VA Hospital. I love making and giving my items away to hospitals and nursing homes. There are so many people out there that never get a gift or see their families. Thank you for the video. I'm legally bland from an eye stroke 5 years ago, see only a little in each eye but can still help others in a very small way. M
Your thoughtfulness doesn’t go unnoticed! Merry Christmas!🎄
I have looked at countless videos on gnome making and yours is the one I'll use to make mine. Thanks for a video that's easy to follow
Soo cute thanks for sharing
I had a bag of mini zip ties that worked great for tying off the top and nose, and I filled mine with walnut shell cat litter. Thanks for a cute, quick craft and clear instructions.
Zip ties should last longer than the rubber bands. Great idea
Adorable and cute ,thank you for sharing ♥️♥️💐💐
Cute to place a pair of mini sunglasses on his nose
Zztop
And if you can not find sunglasses, grab in the greeting card section the sunglasses stickers. Stick to card stock paper, cut out to size and one Dan of hot glue between the eyes and glasses will stick
Best video I'vr watched on gnome making. Very organized and easy to understand
So very cute. I am going to get my granddaughter to help me make some as gifts for Christmas. She is 14 and a big help. Arthritis and joint pain make crafting a challenge, but I am fortunate to have her help. Thank you!
You are blessed to have a good helper!
these lil fellas are so adorable, i cant wait to make these for my Christmas gifts and also for my holiday baskets I make, thanks for sharing
I really appreciate your kind comments! I hope you enjoy make these little guys!
excellent host, best I've seen on demonstration. thank you for passing along how-to Hope to see more of you
I'm very grateful for people taking the time to make these videos.
The gnomes are just to cute!! I am not to crafty, just had to try to create a gnome or two! Took me a little longer then 15 minutes and I love the finished gnome!
I love that each little gnome has their own little personality.....I’m sure yours turned out perfect! Merry Christmas!🎄
Thank you for the video! Very cute!
I love your family of winter gnomes. The gray beards must be grampa gnomes. The fake fur you bought is absolutely beautiful. A mantle decorated with them all lined up would be adorable.
They are darling! They would make a cute little hostess gift too. I think you could set them just about any place around or in your house, even the bathrooms, just for a hint of Christmas throughout your house! Very cute and easy to do!
So cute and a great Christmas 🎄 gift. Hand made and it seems very few people need anything anymore.
I always use plastic water bottles and put little rock pebbles at the bottom of the bottle and stuff the rest with stuffing never have to worry about bugs in the rice so cute thank you for the video
These gnoms are the most adorable thing I've ever seen. I just love them can't wait to make them thanks
I 💕 these little gnome's.
Thank you for the great tip, yes rubber band dry out, & so great they make it easy to tie bows/string.
You are a great speaker, very pleasant tones,& comments about the gnomes ! Giggles.

If you glue a glass or heavy metal coaster as the base, the gnomes will stand up well, and will also give the crafter lots of flexibility about what materials to stuff with. Thank you - adorable!
oh good idea
This is the first time I watched one of your videos and I enjoyed it very much. You do an excellent job
Thank you for watching!
I made these last year for gifts. Everyone enjoyed receiving them but one person was so upset that he didn't have eyes under his hat. She just couldn't understand why I would make something without a face. lol. If this seems to be an issue just glue or sew a couple of black seed beads for eyes. Thank you so much for this tutorial. Hugs and blessings
Cute little gnomes and so simple to make.
So cute! Ya know what might be nice is to put some spices like cinnamon sticks and cloves in with the rice. Then he will be cute and smell good too! :)
Excellent idea!!!
Love that idea!!!
That's a brilliant idea!!! Thanks. I'm going to do that.
Smartest idea ever. If you add a bay leaf to the mix the bugs will stay away too
@@LisaCSCO
Great tip, thanks Lisa! 👍👍😊 ❤
Great gnome recipe. We now have a dozen hanging around for Christmas.
I love this. I see a Gnomes Family in my future and my kids. Hubby and I are empty nesters and have a tee tiny tree. So I decorate with things instead of a big tree. Thank you for this.
Great video and project. Too cute
Soooo cute. Love this... Put rice in freezer for a few days and than add a bay leaf, bugs detest them. Like the cinnamon sticks and cloves, drown out the bay leaf smell, although I like the smell of bay leaf. Great tutorial :)
Wonderful tutorial Thank you! 😀
First tutorial I have seen where the nose is made from the body and not a separate part ... GREAT idea! It was fun to watch and listen as you created the little fella. TFS your idea.
Hello Happy Merry Christmas to you. I hope you are safe and having a good weather. Nice to meet you.
oh my god, thats the cutest ever!!! I am a caregiver and my residents and friends would LOVE these!
They make wonderful gifts for sure! Thank you so much for watching!
Finally someone made a version I can do! Thank you

Thanks for this video! I was searching for an easy gnome tutorial to do with a group of ladies in November. THIS IS PERFECTION! Thanks for doing it live so we can see pitfalls and successes. Better than full-on edited where you don't see the problem-solving.
Hello Jen Happy Merry Christmas to you. I hope you are safe and having a good weather. Nice to meet you.
Awesome and you make it look so easy to make. Thank you for sharing your video.🙂

Can I just say how much of a joy it was watching your video!!! Just hearing you all gitty made me love it more! I want to make me some “chunker gnomes” I’m going to do it with my children and give them as Christmas gifts and put a card with a pin on it that sayes “so you gnome what to do with stress”
I absolutely love that you put this video out! Working with a group of adults with challenges, watching the video, pausing between each step, helps them make these lovely gnomes to raise money for their organization and make gifts for others. You speak in an easy to understand way and it keeps everyone calm. You are truly a blessing!! Thank you so much!!
Im so happy that your group was able to make these little gnomes! I really appreciate your kind comments!
Brilliant! These are so easy and they would be the cutest little stocking stuffers or decorating the house with them for Christmas. Make a few for each Holiday and all seasons, even Superbowl parties. The ideas for these cute little guys are endless. I volunteer at a old age home and making a bunch of these would bring quite a few smiles to my senior friends. Thank you Miriam!!
This was the first of your videos that I have watched. I wanted you to know how much I enjoyed watching you make that sweet little gnome. I think that I will make one for my daughter, granddaughter and myself, because they are the cutest little things.

I'm glad I looked at your vedeio the second time . I believe I can cut the fur better then I do now . Thank you so much . Love the different ways a person can make the Gnomes. I enjoy makeing them .
Inspiring video, thank you for sharing! I volunteer at a resale shop that helps support homeless women and children in my local area. I found most of all the things I needed at the store and made two of these little cuties today to sell. One of them didn't even make it out of the back room before another volunteer fell in love with it. Your video is so good that I had no trouble making them and they look absolutely adorable! Kudos to you!
I'm just searching for odd socks now. Lol I like to keep a small bag of them in case their partner turns up. Now they have a use. Thanks so much for cute and easy Xmas ornament Super cute.
How cute! This ticks off all of the boxes: cute, affordable, easy and does not require a great deal of artistic talent! Keep up the good work. Great craft to do with kids or grandkids!
wow very nice. Congrats! Thanks for giving this for us.

These little gnomes are so cute. I bought socks last year, to make some of these, but never got around to doing it. I discovered the bag of socks a few days ago, so watching this video has inspired me to make a start. Thanks.
I did the same thing, only I was going to make snowmen last year. Based on this tutorial, I believe I can make some gnomes.
Hi lovely from the UK. How cute. Love these Gnomes! 😊👍

I love ❤️ your Gnomes they are so cute and easy to make , thanks for sharing!🙏👍
Very cute project!
These are really cute and I'm glad others suggest cat litter rather that rice and faux fur rather than killed rabbits and other animals for holiday decorations. Adorable.
Debbie Flinkman the fur was faux fur purchased from the fabric store.
Very cute!!!
Absolutely gorgeous, thank you so much for sharing your method.

I have my rice in the freezer and going to pick up supplies for my Christmas Gnome tomorrow! I think it will be a fun project for the grandkids while they're off for the Christmas holidays! Thank you for doing it great tutorial!!
My daughter came to visit, and we made a few of these ~ well, actually, about 10 because they are too much fun to stop! We had so much fun with them!! Each one has its own personality. We used a variety of socks and trims, and love them all. We had to make another trip to the dollar store for more socks. We are officially addicted!!
I love when daughters come to visit.... that’s the BEST! I’m so glad that you had a wonderful time together making these cute little gnomes! It’s fun to see each little personality develop! I made some using valentine socks and I absolutely love them! Thank you so much for watching!💕
