She said 80% of produce comes from Mexico. The 20 % we grow here are mostly picked by migrants. So yes deportation of millions will make produce go up and yes tariffs on Mexico will make prices go up.
Might be net zero. If 10 million people are gone, that’s 10 million less to feed, use gas, electric, healthcare, buy cars , rent houses. After the Black Plague in Europe wages skyrocketed and rents declined
There are 25% tariffs on China goods now nothing went up. I’ve been buying from China for 27 years they absorb it they take the loss because they make 100% on imports. They pay people $20 a week to $120 a week depending if you live in the center of the country or coastal.

Can someone please fu...king explain to every god damn republican who thinks that Tariffs punish other countries. THEY DO NOT. I have a business. I import goods. If you raise the tariff on those goods. I PAY THE TARIFF and the first thing I do, is raise the cost of the product I sell to cover this increase so I can stay in business. Literally the dumbest conversation when you have to explain elementary math to an adult.
@wickysmall8607 depends on how much it costs the suppliers to obtain the materials they intend to sell. The materials may be more expensive and/or the labor needed to get those materials could be more expensive. There could also be a shortlist of suppliers that sell specific goods, which can give them more power to raise prices if demand for those goods go up. Sorry, this is not as simple as shopping around for insurance.
As a Purchasing Director, in the Construction Industry. This is going to be devastating especially with Lumber, Metals, & other construction good. I've spoke with my suppliers, and they have encouraged me to prepare for extreme price hikes, that could drive away consumers. And I'm in deep red Indiana, so yes, it's a problem
@ezeedawg you must not know how business works that's a typical Trump voter you people just speak on the most idiotic things and have no idea what you're talking about taxes and prices are going to go through the roof once you put these tariffs out and prices are going to go through the roof once you Deport all the illegal immigrants because I bet you're not going to go pick blueberries for $3 an hour
Conflating Canada and Mexico when it comes to Fentanyl and Illegal Immigrants coming over the borders is the height of idiocy and completely baseless. It is easily argued that more of it comes into Canada from the US than the other way around. We certainly have a large stream of illegal guns coming in from the US. This is thoughtless and endangers Canada's economy needlessly...not to mention the massive uptick of the cost of almost everything for Americans.
More illegal immy grunts cross from the U.S. Into Canada also. Our crime rate is going up because of the flow of guns from the U.S. Canadian snowbirds spend a ton of money each winter in the southern states. We need to spend more on our military and Trump may be justified in applying some pressure here. I think if these tariffs happen, Canadians will take a whole different view of our neighbours to the south. You may find us a little less welcoming on your visits north.
But Trump does not like your PM, so there. Just joking my fellow Americans that voted for the great bronzed blow fish have all boarded the ferry captained by Trump to cross the River Styx because they heard the grass is greener over on the other side. I'll watch.
I am Canadian. We export a huge amount of crude oil to US refineries. Your gas is going to skyrocket. Then there's natural gas, Canada exports a substantial amount of the US needs for natural gas. The cost of heating and cooling is also going to skyrocket as the US enters the winter. I'd vote for just turning off the damn taps. And as far as the border. Anything coming from Canada is going through the US BORDER AGENCY. So it's not our problem. As far as fentanyl, it's AMERICANS transporting, selling and consuming it. And then there's the tourist industry. In 2023, Canadians made 20.6 million trips to the US. That will stop. Today it costs $1.37 CAD to buy $1 US. Once Trump goes into power, our dollar will drop to $1.60 to buy $1 US and we will not be coming.
I think the USA can survive without Canada. Your next government will be very pro-Trump and that will benefit Canada, even if Canadian women don't like that.
Canadian here and you said it, girl! He’ll be the one to destroy businesses and families and anything he can get his tiny hands on. We used to have decent conversations with the American government. This may not be friendly anymore. We are polite but we are stubborn and strong in ways the USA does not understand.
LOL, your country is facing bankruptcy from Castro Jr's policies and fleecing. Who needs Canadian oil when we can produce our own? The point that is missed is tariffs are to encourage re-establishment of the US supply chains. DUH!

The indiscriminate use of tariffs, like what Trump is proposing NOW (these are NOT what Biden left in place), just hurt Americans When there is no domestic producer that American consumers can buy from. There are MANY products and parts that are not produced in the US anywhere. Do, obviously, those have to be imported and obviously a tariff will raise the price of those items for American consumers.
It's not "retaliation" for past policies and practices that have harmed America. It's incentive to change those policies and practices to prevent future harm to America. Why is that so hard to understand?
Maybe it will open the door to trade deals with the EU. As for China they're going to be the number one exporter of EV's and with the sales of ICE vehicles having to be fazed out in Europe in the coming six years, they'll be able to manufacture more than the big European manufacturers. In short, there's more Countries in the World to trade with than the United States.
Imagine being a worker in a small manufacturing plant who voted for Trump because you were angry about inflation only to immediately get a lay-off notice saying that due to Trump's tariff's the company has to cut costs and prepare for lower sales, and then you hear that Trump is jacking up the prices of everything you buy by 25% on day one of his Presidency.
I'm not sure if you understand this but Kamala had planned to allow Trump's corporate tax breaks to expire, this would have driven all the business that came back from over seas back off shore. Wait, what I am thinking, I am sure you don't understand that, because you were told those tax breaks were bad, didn't have anything to do with business coming back correct?
The best part is that democrats typically live in wealthier blue states instead of the poor red states and can afford the hit on tariffs. This is getting good.
As an Albertan, I’m hearing a lot about the potential consequences Canada-especially Alberta-may consider if Trump follows through on these threats during his 2nd term. Given how interconnected our economies are, particularly with Alberta’s role in supplying vital resources like oil, and natural gas (and building materials from across Canada) any disruption and these tariffs would be disastrous for both countries. Next, blaming ***Canada*** for the fentanyl crisis and illegal immigration is absurd!!! It would be laughable if it didn’t have such serious, far-reaching consequences for Canadians, Americans, and the rest of the world, too! This kind of rhetoric he spews only deepens divisions and undermines possible, real solutions! While I feel bad for everyone affected by this "leadership"-especially those misled by his rhetoric (aka about 90% of his voter base). Still, it’s hard to ignore how widespread functional illiteracy and a MAJOR lack of critical thinking (which includes a HUGE amount of adults - who's lack of education is underreported/under-acknowledged) have contributed to his rise and to why he was (supposedly) voted in... and he's doing everything that he can to keep Americans "stupid" (his/their term, not mine). With Trump as the president-elect, the policies he's (apparently) planning, including these tariffs, threaten to destabilize the global economy. His reckless governance doesn’t just impact the countries he's threatening to hit with tariffs-it jeopardizes financial stability everywhere, including the US. Most Americans have no clue how much this is going to screw them! I still can't believe that this is our reality and that he got his grubby tiny hands on the WH again! Smh. This is insanity!
If the federal government withholds money from California and New York then California and New York will withhold its tax dollars to the federal government. Run that by all the red states that rely on Cali and NY taxes FO&FO.
You do realize that if CA and NY withhold federal taxes, they are both screwed. It's amazing how petty some Democrats can be. They think they know what's best for everyone. I'm not a Trump fan in the slightest, but Harris would have been an absolute disaster. Why can't Democrats realize the reason she lost was that she was a horrible candidate? It's really not that difficult.
Scott, look at a produce aisle. It will tell you some things are imported, some come from here. Tariffs will increase the price of grapes, for example. Mass deportation will increase the price of corn, oranges, etc. Crazy how the world has lots of different parts, huh?

It only works for things the US makes when they've monopoly on it, which is basically nothing. They don't even make the chip technology anymore. That is from ASML the Netherlands. If the Dutch cut that off it's over for the US.
Canada has 40% of the world's potash that the Koch brothers have been importing, like mad to make fertilizer. That will increase the cost to grow your own food. Plus, tariffs can be import and export, so Canada could add export tariffs on resources to make things even worse for Americans. Remember the N95 mask issue where the trees used to make those masks are found only in Canada. Better hope nothing breaks out. Lumber to build homes comes largely from Canada at lower prices than can be produced in the US. America doesn't have the supply to meet the demand, nor can Americans afford the cost increase. Tariffs are not a punishment on the other country. They are a tax on the US importers. Why do these, supposedly professional, journalists keep making this misleading categorisation.
It only ends up being a "punishment" to the other countries because it will (supposedly) force people looking for trade goods to instead source those goods from within the U.S. This only "punishes" the other country by making the U.S. companies less attracted to doing business with those other countries. One of my concerns is that U.S. based companies currently providing product here will look to just jump ship and move where the grass is greener, and they can get their components/chemicals/goods without tariffs, or potentially without even importing.

There's something else I haven't seen a lot talked about in the coverage, and that's international goodwill towards Americans. It is true that Americans spend an awful lot of money on defence spending, including NATO. It's also true that Americans contribute more than their share to world agencies like the WHO. But let's be frank here: other countries in the world have allowed the US to run things in ways that benefits the US. The International Monetary Fund, large swaths of the UN, the military and intelligence bases abroad, the use of the US dollar, etc. etc. All these are designed to hugely benefit the US and they do, because much of the rest of the world has decided, "well, better the Americans than ____." I don't think Trump or Americans more broadly have understood that the crass selfishness and vilification of even close allies like Canada means eventually other countries are going to say, "why are we letting these guys run the world again?" You already see it with poorer and less stable countries siding with China and Russia. It's not true that the US gets ripped off by the world; it's the price you pay for the rest of us going along with American imperialism.

When we impose tariffs, we are not merely adjusting prices on products; we are impacting the very fabric of family budgets. Families across America-particularly those in low- and middle-income brackets-will feel the strain as the costs of essential goods rise. Imagine the single mother juggling her household expenses, or the father striving to provide for his children’s education, suddenly faced with increased prices for groceries, clothing, and vital electronics. This is not just an economic challenge; it is a call to action for us all to advocate for policies that protect our communities while promoting fair trade. What Tariffs Would Mean to American Families As we navigate the complexities of our global economy, it is crucial to understand the profound implications that tariffs can have on the lives of American families. A 25% tariff on goods imported from Mexico is not just an economic statistic; it is a significant shift that resonates deeply within our communities, influencing everyday choices and the future of our households. Impact on American Families Increased Cost of Living: A 25% tariff on goods from Mexico would raise prices on various imported items, directly impacting household budgets and overall cost of living. Adjustment in Consumer Choices: Families may need to adjust their purchasing habits, seeking alternative products or brands to mitigate the financial burden imposed by tariffs. tariffs are imposed, they could cost Americans an estimated $78 billion annually, NBC News reported, with everyday goods costing more.Automobiles and Automotive Parts Mineral Fuels and Oils Electronics Agricultural Products Plastics and Plastic Products Machinery and Industrial Equipment Aluminum and Steel ProductsSupply Chain Adjustments Domestic Production Boost: Higher tariffs could encourage domestic manufacturing and production, leading to job creation in certain industries. Supply Chain Resilience: Companies may seek to diversify their supply chains to mitigate the impacts of tariffs, leading to changes in sourcing practices and logistics. Inflationary Pressures General Inflation: A widespread increase in prices across various categories can contribute to inflation, leading to a higher overall cost of living. Wage Stagnation: If wages do not keep pace with rising prices, families may experience diminished purchasing power, exacerbating economic inequality. Effects of Tariffs Price Increases: Tariffs typically lead to higher prices for consumers, as businesses pass additional costs onto customers. This can reduce purchasing power and alter consumer behavior. Economic Disruption: Tariffs can disrupt established supply chains, leading to inefficiencies and increased costs for businesses relying on imported materials or components. Retaliation: Other countries may respond to tariffs with their own tariffs on exports from the imposing country, leading to trade wars that can escalate and impact global markets. Canada buys more from the United States than China, Japan, France and the UK combined.” Adding 25 percent to the price of imported products could make many too costly, potentially crippling trade around the continent. It could also invite retaliation from other governments, which could put their own levies on American exports. The tariffs can lead to higher inflation in the US, meaning the Fed will find it harder to cut rates,” Gary Ng, senior economist for Asia Pacific at Natixis in Hong Kong, told Al Jazeera, referring to the US central bank.

Literally the dumbest conversation when you have to explain elementary math to an adult.
Many Republicans voters are intellectually children
So your first move is to raise your prices on to your customer base? Not looking for other local suppliers? 😂👏
This isn't the 1950s anymore, this is the part you don't understand. "Local suppliers" no longer exist for certain things.
They think consumers will start buying from a US producers if the prices go up on imported goods.

Are you looking for one of those safe spaces i’ve heard so much about?
It's not "retaliation" for past policies and practices that have harmed America. It's incentive to change those policies and practices to prevent future harm to America. Why is that so hard to understand?
I hope Mexico, China, and Canada call his bluff
Maybe it will open the door to trade deals with the EU. As for China they're going to be the number one exporter of EV's and with the sales of ICE vehicles having to be fazed out in Europe in the coming six years, they'll be able to manufacture more than the big European manufacturers. In short, there's more Countries in the World to trade with than the United States.
They won't, their economies are in the dumps...they will capitulate....
Mexico cannot. China cannot. Canada cannot.
They will all stop trading with the US, inflation will skyrocket.
Each country should try to be more independent
As they always say, "elections have consequences"
@huntstyle so that's the solution to the stupidity???
@@MAGOLD1120 No, that's a consequence of the stupidity.
The best part is that democrats typically live in wealthier blue states instead of the poor red states and can afford the hit on tariffs. This is getting good.
Scott Jennings is so disingenuous and slimy.
He is a MAGA buffoon!!
Why can't america grow their own They have the land and the seasonal weather for it Oh that's right that means they have to pay their workers a fair rage people like black illegal now legal Latino immigrants like myself who voted for Donald Trump
So we are going to see you and your trump voting friends in the fields? Sure thing, jose.@jamesbomd3503
A 25% tariff will cripple all three economies.
I hope you are wrong... but I have a feeling you will be mostly correct. There is going to have to be some quick shuffling to different providers or revenue streams by a lot of people/companies in order to even provide affordable product to U.S. citizens. I worry most that a lot of companies just won't believe it to be worth it and will look to just pack up and do business elsewhere.
Putin smiles with satisfaction.
not just all 3, it will cripple the world - i.e. a big tariff on China hurts Australia immensely as we export heaps of raw materials to China.
@@lionel3469 He will tariff Australia and Europe directly too. This is just the first announcement of tariffs. He's gonna tariffs every country, he said this in speeches and interviews.
If you send directly goods to China there's no tariff. Only products into the US. Only if China tariffs Australia. This is exactly why it won't work. It only works for things the US makes when they've monopoly on it, which is basically nothing. They don't even make the chip technology anymore. That is from ASML the Netherlands. If the Dutch cut that off it's over for the US.
Not really, Canada and Mexico can find other markets
Canada has 40% of the world's potash that the Koch brothers have been importing, like mad to make fertilizer.
That will increase the cost to grow your own food.
Plus, tariffs can be import and export, so Canada could add export tariffs on resources to make things even worse for Americans.
Remember the N95 mask issue where the trees used to make those masks are found only in Canada. Better hope nothing breaks out.
Lumber to build homes comes largely from Canada at lower prices than can be produced in the US. America doesn't have the supply to meet the demand, nor can Americans afford the cost increase.
America can't use the light oil it is fracking, so drill baby drill won't increase US petroleum position, Canadian oil is needed because it is heavy.
Go ahead and let it rip.
Yup, I’m sure Trump will try to get his greedy hands on Canadian oil and more of our natural resources

Also, let's not act like these companies are going to let a good opportunity to price gouge us go to waste. They'll raise their prices before anything happens, claim that it's in anticipation of tariffs, and then just never lower them even if Trump's tariff talk was all bluster.

Tariffs are not a punishment on the other country. They are a tax on the US importers. Why do these, supposedly professional, journalists keep making this misleading categorisation.
Lol
It only ends up being a "punishment" to the other countries because it will (supposedly) force people looking for trade goods to instead source those goods from within the U.S. This only "punishes" the other country by making the U.S. companies less attracted to doing business with those other countries. One of my concerns is that U.S. based companies currently providing product here will look to just jump ship and move where the grass is greener, and they can get their components/chemicals/goods without tariffs, or potentially without even importing.
@@danieliusblackius1130 Do you know what happened when Trump put a tariffs on China in his first term? China responded with tariffs on US agricultural goods exported to China. That cost US farmers tens of billions of dollars. Which they were compensated for, by US taxpayers. Also the reason Trump gave for those tariffs was the same reason he's giving now. But China did nothing that he insisted on the first time. Trump is a spoilt brat and a dumbass.
That Republican on the panel is soooo close to putting it together. (arm throwing) “Last time you said we rely on Mexicans to pick our crops NOW you’re saying most of our produce comes from Mexico…” as if the two issues can’t possibly both be true.
The International Monetary Fund, large swaths of the UN, the military and intelligence bases abroad, the use of the US dollar, etc. etc. All these are designed to hugely benefit the US and they do, because much of the rest of the world has decided, "well, better the Americans than ____."
I don't think Trump or Americans more broadly have understood that the crass selfishness and vilification of even close allies like Canada means eventually other countries are going to say, "why are we letting these guys run the world again?" You already see it with poorer and less stable countries siding with China and Russia.

What Tariffs Would Mean to American Families
As we navigate the complexities of our global economy, it is crucial to understand the profound implications that tariffs can have on the lives of American families. A 25% tariff on goods imported from Mexico is not just an economic statistic; it is a significant shift that resonates deeply within our communities, influencing everyday choices and the future of our households.
Impact on American Families
Increased Cost of Living: A 25% tariff on goods from Mexico would raise prices on various imported items, directly impacting household budgets and overall cost of living.
Adjustment in Consumer Choices: Families may need to adjust their purchasing habits, seeking alternative products or brands to mitigate the financial burden imposed by tariffs.
tariffs are imposed, they could cost Americans an estimated $78 billion annually, NBC News reported, with everyday goods costing more.Automobiles and Automotive Parts
Mineral Fuels and Oils
Electronics
Agricultural Products
Plastics and Plastic Products
Machinery and Industrial Equipment
Aluminum and Steel ProductsSupply Chain Adjustments
Domestic Production Boost: Higher tariffs could encourage domestic manufacturing and production, leading to job creation in certain industries.
Supply Chain Resilience: Companies may seek to diversify their supply chains to mitigate the impacts of tariffs, leading to changes in sourcing practices and logistics.
Inflationary Pressures
General Inflation: A widespread increase in prices across various categories can contribute to inflation, leading to a higher overall cost of living.
Wage Stagnation: If wages do not keep pace with rising prices, families may experience diminished purchasing power, exacerbating economic inequality.
Effects of Tariffs
Price Increases: Tariffs typically lead to higher prices for consumers, as businesses pass additional costs onto customers.
Canada buys more from the United States than China, Japan, France and the UK combined.”
Adding 25 percent to the price of imported products could make many too costly, potentially crippling trade around the continent.

Canada sends 190,000,000 barrels PER DAY to the US and a 25% tariff on it will appear at the American gas pumps, not in Canada.
35 of the 50 US States have Canada as their #1 trading partner in the whole World. A 25 % tariff on the goods produced in those States will result in a whole lot of lost jobs
That is about 8 times the amount of oil produced in the WORLD. I assume you mean about 4 million barrels per day, which is what is reported by the Dept. of Energy.
That's a hundred and ninety million barrels or 190,000 thousand barrels and you're sort of right in that is monthly, not daily.
