    Hi Paul, Thanks so much for your videos! They are so helpful. I am doing your paid course and i am finding it really great. I find that there is still a big weakness that i have with my Spanish and that is hearing and interpreting what others are saying. I hear a sentance, and it takes me twice as long to translate it in my mind, by which time the person has carried on speaking and ive got myself totally lost. Can i ask a favour? That in some upcoming videos, instead of asking us to translate english into spanish, could you do the opposite and ask us to translate spanish into english? I think this would be super helpful and help with listening. Once again, huge thank you for all your teachings, they are by far the most helpful thing i have found to help me learn spanish.

      Suzannah, During the lesson, I write toe responses in Spanish, then later I go back and write the English translations (sometimes hours later or next day). It really helps with my comprehension.

Other boring courses that teach how to order a table for two please or where is the bank? Are a waste of time - this guy gets you speaking proper sentences straight from the start. Great chanel😀

    Notice, by the way, that when you say "I will have to ask him for a favor," you do NOT need to use a word for "for" in Spanish. The idea of "for" is already contained in the word "pedir." Therefore, you simply say "Tendré que pedirle un favor" -- no need to use "por" or "para" here.

    • @SpanishWithPaul
      @SpanishWithPaul  6 років тому +3

      Yes and if you think of pedir = to request it matches with a literal English translation as well... to request a favor.

    • @legaleagle46
      @legaleagle46 6 років тому +2

      Something else that may help is to know that the word comes from the Latin "petere" meaning "to seek," which is also the source of our word "petition." In other words, when you are saying "Tengo que pedirle un favor," you can also think of yourself as saying "I need to petition a favor from him," or "I need to seek a favor from him."

Wow, really hard to explain... kind of like trying to explain the difference between "to take" and "to bring". You "take a cake to" a party and you "bring leftovers back" home. I don't think I've helped make it clearer, haha..sorry.

      Pauline Powell because le is the correct indirect object for him and her. The something, even if it is inferred is the direct object. So the recipient (indirect) of the something(direct ) has to be le !!
      On any occassion when you are forming a sentence and you have ( something ) in the sentence, then the person recieving that something is an indirect object so LE.

    •  6 років тому

      What I have understood now is: everytime you use a verb which is followed by a personal "a" someone, then the full verb expression is "verb-le". If it is a usual verb without psersonal "a" someone, for examle "hacer" something, then you have to distinguish between "hacerlo" and "hacerla".

      Hi there..!!! In Cuba we always pronounce the V as a B, always. So we wirte FAVOR but we pronounce FABOR. We write VOZ( voice) but pronounce BOZ👍

    • @legaleagle46
      @legaleagle46 6 років тому

      It depends in part on the dialect. Most native speakers pronounce it as a soft "b" by not closing their lips completely while making the "b" sound. This allows a little air to escape, and the result is a sound that makes the lips vibrate just a little. This rule, by the way, only applies when "b" (and "v") for that matter, are found between vowel sounds. At the beginning of a word or before a consonant, both letters are pronounced as a hard "b" as in English "boy."
