    In today's video we start the install of some massive aero upgrades for my 2017 Shelby GT350. The overall goal is to increase downforce, improving overall grip on the track. The splitter I went with is an Archetype Evo 3 Front Splitter which is very similar to that of the Capaldi/Ford Performance from Splitter from the FP350S Track Focused/Built GT350. In an upcoming video we will be installing Archetype Canards and Wing End Plates in addition to an APR GT250 Wing/Spoiler.
    I have recently decided to keep my GT350 instead of trading it in for a 2020 Shelby GT500 or 2020 C8 Corvette / 2020 Corvette.
    I'll have a review on all of the aero once I hit the track with it!

      Any plans for the Mustang GT4 wing (same as is used on the 2020 500)? Also GT4 hood heat extractors.

      You should look at installing a scrape guard for front splitter. I installed scrape guard from "sliplo" on my GT350.

    I like how the support rod lines up quite well with the white stripes on the car, like it extends. Looking good!

      Harm van Barneveld thanks Harm, that let me know the rods were definitely straight! 😁 The stripes may not be on the car much longer though, I have some big changes coming for the car. 😱

    Looks sweet!! You know some info on how composite is made I see👌🏻. Company I work for makes composite parts for Boeing. Crazy how it’s made and unbelievable the strength it has. Looking forward to more mods for the GT350😛

    • @JeffAshton
      @JeffAshton  4 роки тому +3

      The Duffster talking to Curtis sold me, I couldn’t believe the attention to detail in all of his products. The price point is obviously higher, but the strength difference is insane. I was able to see some footage of what happened to a GT350, with an Archetype splitter, that had a major off while on track and the entire bumper was destroyed. The splitter on the other hand was still able to be bolted right back on the new bumper!

      Jeff Ashton Awesome!!! We use to make hundreds of different Aluminum items for Boeing, Bell helicopter, Sikorsky helicopter, etc. but the majority of what we make for them is composite now. We have a layup room where we cut the sheets or cloth into the lengths needed. The sheets are then laid at 0, 45 n 90 degrees which is what gives you the strength. Sheets are then layered and pinned together for the desired thickness which is all calculated before hand. Then off to the CCM that then heats it and presses it like you mentioned. Then off to the water jet to be cut into whatever you want or off to a heated press that has a high temp fixture in it that can press a flat pc of composite into just about anything you want. All parts then go to a robo trim machine that has a program in it to clean up any excess burrs, etc. I was involved at the start up of the composite era and it’s amazing how much it has already changed. Enjoy your builds💯🏁

    Jeff, that front splitter looks incredible man. I'm anxious to see how it works for you on track. I put the R splitter on my GT350 as well so I'm very interested to see how it performs. I might go this route too. Looks really good and aggressive. Nice install video too. Very informative. Thanks.

      Again, love the splitter Jeff and keep up the great content. Looking forward to the rear wing install!

    Amazing video Jeff. I followed this video to mount my splitter for my mustang GT. Only issue I have is drilling into the steel crash bar. What drill bits did you use? The one I have kept breaking or stopped biting into the steel. Thanks!

    Hey, Jeff, everybody goes for the outside upgrades. I have #112 of 500 2013 Shelby GT500 Super Snakes. My outside and inside are immaculate. Something that would right off the bat bump your internals is a set of Shelby logo aluminum gas, brake, clutch, and dead pedals. They are extremely noticeable as soon as you open the door you see them. I have OCD and love to see clean mods to cars. All of my mods are carbon fiber direct replacements for the parts that were on the car stock. Please do not forget the interior it will set you apart from the other GT350r's but does not change the dynamics of it's performance. So keep with our rule, "no tacky" out of place crap on our cars (lol).

    Looks pretty good! However... What's the over/under on how long it takes to destroy that splitter? LOL I have a stock 350R and there is approximately 4" of ground clearance from the bottom of the splitter to the ground. I don't see how it's possible that you haven't scraped yours yet prior to this install. Maybe you can't hear the plastic grinding over the exhaust :) I'm very careful and still scrape routinely. So much so that I installed an Automods skid plate (automodsfl.com/product/mustang-gt350r-skid-plates/) to minimize the abrasions. With your car on factory lowering springs combined with the fact that the new splitter mounts under the factory splitter and appears to be about an inch lower, it almost looks undrivable on anything but perfect roads. Keep us posted! Looking forward to seeing what you do out back.

      Andrew B. The thermally bonded carbon composite I use is the absolute best available material for a front splitter. It’s so many orders of magnitude stronger and wear resistant than the plastics used by the OEM. One of the use cases for this material is blast attenuation and shrapnel mitigation for vehicles subjected to IEDs. If that wasn’t enough, I’ve also paired the material Delignit Panzerholz to the bottom of my splitters, if you choose that option. Delignit is 1/10th the weight of high carbon steel with similar wear properties. Where it absolutely excels is it’s low friction properties. It inherently slides across the race or road surface and doesn’t unsettle the car. This is the exact same material that LMP 24 hour endurance cars. I employ 3x the thickness of material than the LMP car, because they are hyper sensitive to weight. They use 1/3 less material and literally scrape constantly for 24 hours. How long would it take for you to wear out a set of skids?! Back to the carbon splitter. It’s nearly unbreakable. Bulletproof to handgun rounds. It won’t shatter or crack. It’s dense enough that it can be milled. That’s where you see the lightening pockets milled into the top side. I mill my AR logo into the splitter, just to have an external example of the robustness of this material. No one else in the carbon industry does that, because no one using carbon fiber can.

    Curious how you plan to measure the effectiveness of the aero upgrades, as stated goal is function over form. You mentioned that Archetype did wind tunnel testing so wonder if there are any numbers to attach to the products, such as amount of downforce increased at certain speeds, etc. Presuming the goal is to reduce understeer, which the car is prone to, as well as just better overall handling, lateral g's, etc. Who knows, turn 17 at Sebring may just be a bit less pucker inducing...

    • @JeffAshton
      @JeffAshton  4 роки тому +2

      Patrick Prom it’s honestly going to be impossible to tell before and after since I don’t have quantitative data at Sebring prior to the additions. That would’ve been the best/smartest way to measure on track improvements. I was actually discussing this scenario with Max at Xineering, but even if we can data log sessions and ride height changes turn by turn, I won’t have anything to compare with now. While we know there will be improvements, I agree it would’ve been best to have data prior to the additions. I’m supposed to be at Sebring May 2nd & 3rd, but I’m guessing it will be cancelled with everything going on at the moment. The car has a full aero setup now, I just have to get the videos out. :)

    • @deputydog95
      @deputydog95 4 роки тому

      @@JeffAshton I haven't done a DE at Sebring in years, but I do race there and elsewhere pretty routinely. Data before and after would have been interesting, especially if you're at the level to really go beyond your comfort zone to probe how much more you can get out of it. I used to DE a GT3 back in the day and eventually added a cup car wing. Took me a while before I could finally go flat through Bishop's and trust that it would stick. Which it did. Could routinely go 135mph through there on data (2:17's) with no drama. Unfortunately, everything is canceled right now, at least in the SE. Our series has been shut down until further notice. It's a bummer... What club do you typically run with? Chin? I need to get past 1k miles and then I plan on doing some DE's between race events. When it all opens up again of course :)
