I am hoping that you find comfort after watching this video. I didn't know what to expect, and I think that something like this would have eased my mind quite a bit. If you, or anyone you now, will be having this surgery, please feel free to SHARE this. Also, comment with any questions, and "Like" this. I had a few complications that I hope you wouldn't have, but this may help you to be better prepared if something like this were to happen to you.
Thank you for putting this out. I had the same procedures, hysterectomy, oophorectomy, and bladder mesh done 2 weeks ago. I am still experiencing pelvic pain. Urine stream is a lit smaller. It's painful before urination and pooping. I felt like my colon is expending inside me and felt the fecal movements before it actually out. Yep, i still have a lot of pelvic pain. I hope and pray it will get better, like you said. May you and all of us who underwent or will undergo these procedures find it helpful and with full and speedy recovery!
Yes- the urine stream is much lighter, for sure. And since the surgery (prepare yourself for grossness)....I feel my poop in my right butt cheek before it comes out! They moved my bowels to the right because they said that mine were on the wrong side, so I can only assume that it went a little too right (?). Very odd feeling. BUT- no pain at all, and the bladder mesh was amazing. It was a tough recovery, so just really take it easy and heal. They did alot in there, and some days feel better than others. Hang in there!!
It was good to hear from someone that had the same procedure I just had June 1 I did not have the bladder complications you had so thankfully I only had the catheter one day in the hospital. I did wake up with a very swollen and busted lip from being inverted and the tube put pressure on my lip it looked like someone punched me but it finally healed like a week later. Glad your are recovering well and thank you for being open and sharing your experience. God bless
SO glad to hear that you are recovering from your surgery with no complications! When I woke up, I felt like I was living a nghtmare when I saw that the cathetre was still in (I was questioning the nurses about it before my surgery, and they said that most times, they take it out before the patient wakes up). Yes, I was very swollen too! My kids said that my face looked pretty odd and I kept needing chapstick. Kinda wish now that they had taken a picture of me! Haha!! P.S. I forgot to add that I had 2 infections (UTI) during this, so 2 rounds of antibiotics also.
For hot flashes, I highly recommend buying a chillibed. It is a water cooled mattress topper. Cools you off instantly. Wife loves it.

I'm having a hysterectomy and sling surgery next month. My bladder surgeon told me it's got an 85% success rate but watching this now I'm scared since I'm prone to UTIs. I'm just tired of the leakage. I've had it since I had my kids. My youngest son was born in 2009 and now in December 2020 i still have problems with it. So I've been dealing with it for a while.
I was really prone to getting UTIs as well. In most cases, when you wake up from the surgery, the cathetre will be out and things will go fine. Since my surgeon used those robotic arms, he scraped my bladder as he passed by it, and that is why I had so much trouble. I have heard many many stories of things going exactly as planned, and their recovery was awesome. Please don't let this scare you. It is very much worth getting done. Not leaking and being a slave to the bathroom will make it all worth while. You can do this!!! Let me know how everything goes.
Thank you for your braveness in putting this video out about something so personal. I have an appt with a Urologist this week and I've been told I would do better with a bladder sling since the bladder mesh didn't hold to well. I've been having leakage with coughing and laughing, I wear pads when I go out just in case I don't make it to the bathroom, one time I had a full blown accident and had to go home. I'm nervous cause I am experiencing pelvic pain on the right side now and in my tailbone area so seeing the Urologist could hopefully help me with this problem and I can stop having these embarrassing moments.
SO glad you are getting things taken care of! They found a few things when they actually got in there, so that made me feel better in the long run too (cysts on ovaries and my bowels were on the wrong side!) I am just in AWW of the difference in my life now. No more leakage when I cough, sneeze, or go down a step. No more pads! I actually only "go" when I am supposed to now. My recovery took awhile longer than it should have, but it has all been worth it now! I hope you have great results with yours too. Good luck! And thank you for your nice comment!
Julie Knight, I had my done 2006. You are so brave and I thank you for the video. You went threw more then I did. I hope and I know you will make it. GOD bless. 2021 so far my inside are doing normal thing, (I hope it stays that way) Take care

I had sling, hysterectomy, and posterior anterior repair 5 weeks ago. Stitches very painful and bladder infections. Also lot of pressure while standing. Good points not needing to pee every half hour. Glad it's over and due for follow up with surgeon next week. Main concern I have is burning sensation in urethral area. I hope it's not the mesh.

I didnt have stitches. I had my incisions glued. The pain there was minimal. You really shouldn't have that burning feeling. I had a terrible time with infections at first. Maybe see if you can switch antibiotic types to feel better. Good luck! Hope you feel lots better soon.
Does it hurt when you micturate? How was it the first the first few days after surgery and using the bathroom to micturate, how painful it is.
Hi Julie Glad I found your video. I'm having sling surgery in 3 days, my question is how long will you have to self catheter. Will things go back to normal and be able to go regularly. My Dr told me I Might have to go home with a catheter. I'm really hoping I won't have to, and self catheterization wast even a thought till I watched your video, but it's better to be informed. @nanjohnston You will be so glad you did. My thoughts were that without all those parts, I cant get uterine cancer, ovarian cancer, etc. That helped keep me calm.
Thank you for your story, i just canceled my TVT/sling surgery because I was so afraid of putting that polymer in my body.
I wish you the very best. It has been a little over a year for me, and things are going well. I have a terrible cold right now, and the coughing isn't causing me to leak at all. The pressure isn't there like it was before the surgery, so that's nice. So far, I am very satisfied. Long recovery, but things are much better now.
Thank you for all this great information. I will be going through the same procedures next week. I know I will have my tubes and ovaries removed but already on the tail end of menopause. I’d like to understand the position you were in? Inverted? Did you experience neck pain?
I was upside down for a good portion of the surgery. When I woke up, my face actuly.looked really funny and it felt so weird. I guess the blood rushing to my head and staying there for hours was the reason. It made my lips feel bad, so I just needed chapstick alot, and water. I looked much better the next day. No neck pain from it though. Best of luck to you during your surgery. Let me know how you're doing afterwards.
Thank you for this video. I am just about one week post OP for same surgery. I had a suprapubic catheter in my abdomen when I left the hospital but was having more problems so they took it out the next day. Thankfully no potty problems so far. My problem is that when I feel bad, I wonder if it's normal and when I feel good, I wonder if that's normal. Starting to feel stronger each day. My sling is a little different and the whole surgery was vaginal. Its mainly uncomfortable with the external stitching.
I was VERY thankful for no stitches at all, and just the glue.......but since my bladder was bruised from the robotic 'arms', I am wondering if I would have been better off dealing with the stitches from a vaginal one.

A few months after the surgery, I went on the NutriSystem plan because I gained weight from being down so long. I have lost 26 pounds from that, but it does seem to be harder than before. No, I cannot feel the sling at all. My urine stream has changed and is much smaller than before, but honestly that is about the only difference I notice. My surgeon said that as long as I don't strain myself or push too much, the sling should last a very long time. No pain at all, so I feel optimistic about that.

Julie Knight are you still catheterizing? How are you doing and is the sling an issue is mesh or just only your own tissue?I’m having same surgery post hysterectomy though
@@MINAWOOLZEY No, my bladder decided to start working on it's own. I had the bag catheter for about 6 weeks after my surgery (mesh bag sling attached to my cervix), and then my bladder wouldnt empty when they removed it. So, I had to self catheterize for exactly 1 month and 1 day. I had to pee more on my own than what was coming out with each catheter, and I finally did. That was VERY scary. But, please know that it wasn't painful to catheterize. Just slow and easy, then it starts coming out! And the home catheters are about 1/3 of the size of the one they put in me in the hospital.
I am going through this now. I had anterior, posterior pelvic repair along with a partial hysterectomy (only uterus, cervix, one Fallopian tube), and a sling put in. Today is one week since surgery and although I’m feeling much better I am having issues with urinary retention and have to self catheterize. How long did you have to do that for?
I had to self catheterize for about 5-6 weeks. I just couldn't empty my bladder and felt like I still had to 'go' all of the time. I had to measure and record about 3 times a day. I would go to the bathroom on my own, then catheterize to see how much was left. Eventually, it got better and better, and I emptied on my own. It was such a long road to recover. And now, I see differently than before. Not nearly the strong stream I once had. Good luck to you in your recovery! Just take it slow.
Julie Knight thank you so much for your response. My surgery was almost 2 weeks ago and I’m seeing some improvements in voiding by myself hopefully it won’t be more than another week but even if it is I’m ok with it as long as I recover. Glad to hear you’re recovering.

What do you mean you had to self caterize?
Did you get a bladder test known as urodynamics before your hysterectomy? This can give the doctor information about whether your bladder is involved or not. This would be done before the procedure and involves three small catheters in the front and back and a full bladder to see how everything moves when organs are propped up into proper position. All the best to you recovery. Sounds like it was an ordeal.
Yes, they gave me a bladder test, but it doesn't sound like it was like the one you are mentioning. It was a catheter with fluid being pumped in to see the capacity and when I felt full. Then, they pumped in a certain amount, and had me urinate without the catheter to make sure I was emptying. Then, they put it back in, pumped me full again, and then asked me to try to pee around the catheter. I sat on the jeep, and passed out! So, I didnt get to finish that test. The thought of peeing around a catheter is just terrifying and doesnt make much sense to me anyway. I understand the other tests though.

Was you in a lot of pain the first day I’m scared to death I’m 45 and in stage 4 endometriosis and have the sling and hysterectomy in 2 weeks anything special I need to pack for the night stay
I thought that my stomach would hurt a lot because of the places they go in for the surgery, but it wasn't bad at all. I ended up with 8 little places about an inch long that they used glue to close up. So no stitches or staples that pulled and hurt. That was a relief! They gave me a wrap thing with velcro for around my stomach that made it easier for me to get up and down. Pain was not an issue much at all. I was surprised about that. They have everything you need at the hospital, so just wear your super comfy outfit and slip on shoes. The key is to take it VERY easy when you get home. You will feel pretty good, but your insides have been through a lot, and you cannot overdo things or you will be sorry. Most times, it is an uneventful surgery, so just relax and do what the doctor tells you. You will be just fine!
I had the same thing done the only issue is im on day 5 and finally I pooped omg so painful i was scare to push but i kinda had to im scare i undid something in there i feel like i just gave birth vaginal
I know what you mean! My surgeon told me to take a stool softener every day for the rest of my life. I think it will be worth it. Good luck to you!!

Did all return to feel as before in your intimate relationship? I’m afraid of fixing one thing and then having another issue.
Well, I am working on that right now. I take a 1mg pill called Estradiol that took away all of the hot flashes and night sweats (that were unbelievable!) and are supposed to help the moisture return, as well as the sex drive. It is better, but I think I will be taking 1 1/2 or 2 pills a day soon for more help. There is a definite difference, so I am hoping that the estrogen pills will have me back to normal soon.
You all nothing ever will be the same and no amount of leakage is worth the hell mesh will bring to your life. If not right away then after a time...
What did the mesh do to you
When they attach it to your vaginal wall, that is where the problems can occur. They attached mine to my cervix, so the success rate for those is 94%.
@@julieknight7036 that's really good to know. I had my cervix removed so I'm very leary of this procedure now.
Did you have vagina hysterectomy or went through C-section scar tissue. In some parts of the world bladder slings are not done any more.
It was vaginal as well as the DiVinci method through the abdomen. I had never had a c-section birth, so my scars are fresh ones, and pretty small.
I didn't know that they don't do the bladder sling in some parts of the world. I wonder why? That's a bit concerning.
@@julieknight7036 bladder sling cause pain after they are put in. Lawsuit for doctor putting them in, patient are getting them removed. On surgery day did they shave off pubic hair before surgery. When women go into menopause after surgery some time pubic hair will not grow back in.
@@kervindow2444 My surgeon said that the slings that have the problems and lawsuits, are the ones that were attached to the vaginal wall. Mine is attached to my cervix. The cervix is a much thicker tissue and the mesh joins in with that tissue and grasps it more and more as time goes by. The vaginal wall is too thin for much weight at all, and that's where the issues lie.
Your doctor sounds horrible!
I was definitely scared. I think it may have been one of his first robotic surgeries, but not sure. SO glad it is all over.
