Special Report: The Mesh Scandal

  • The complication rate for vaginal mesh implants, used to treat urinary incontinence in women, is almost 10% - much higher than the officially reported rate of 1-3% - according to figures obtained by Sky News.
    MPs will debate the risks associated with mesh implants after thousands of women say the device has perforated organs, caused chronic pain and left them unable to work or have sex.
    Sky's Charlotte Lomas has this special report.

    It's really sad that health care companies will push a risky procedure on people to make money. People need to be aware of the risks. If there is a 10% chance of complications, it's not worth it.

      So it's better to allow a patients internal organs (bladder, colon, & uterus) to fall out of their body through the vagina?

      In addition, even the companies producing these devices say they knew the numbers of failures of these products at upwards of 20% and they knew this as early as 2003 and that was acceptable to them.

    When receiving a vaginal mesh sling 9 years ago; a 56 year old lady in the bed opposite me was there for the third time: After the first operation, the mesh protruded into her bladder. The second procedure she said, was unsuccessful; with her incontinence symptoms persisting.
    For me the operation only helped for 2-3 years before incontinence/Diabetes Insipidus-like condition returned - as it was before - during the day, as well as disrupting my sleep at night.
    Fortunately I was able to help myself to recover naturally by using targetted supplements, detoxification methods and by implementing various life style changes. Would not advise anyone to undergo any surgical procedure that deposits plastic material permanently into the body.

    To all those having problems..pls see a lawyer. This is a class action suit that has been awarded millions of dollars for victims to split. I hope that woman can get money to get surgery to help pain etc.

    • @CarterSmith99
      @CarterSmith99 3 роки тому +4

      The problem is those of us who have been affected don’t receive that money in those million even billion dollar payouts the courts have so far ordered. The lawyers representing the class take 40%, taxes eat another 30% and those of us with these issues are given pennies on the dollar for the loss of our sex life, partners, careers, health, and many life itself as they have died from sepsis as a result of mesh migrating through the bowel. Oh, but 9 outta 10 doctors we go to for help will tell us it is all in our heads there is “nothing to see” or it is “impossible for the mesh to cause the symptoms we describe.

    I just went through surgery on the 2 of August to remove mesh out of sinus track and hip joint I wasn't informed I had a sling put in but haven't been able to have sex without extreme pain and bleeding my husband and I haven't had sex in over 2 year any suggestions on what I should do now?

    • @CarterSmith99
      @CarterSmith99 3 роки тому

      Find a doctor to remove it all!!! Search Facebook for groups of women with mesh; most of them will have lists of doctors who perform removal surgeries. So not get a partial removal as it makes total removals more difficult for surgeons. It is a huge surgery; however, the only way to stop the damage from continuing to occur and it will not fix the auto immune disorders that are triggered by this implantation of TransVaginal mesh.

      @@CarterSmith99 Hi, I suffer from mostly the immune disorder. Had consul with Dr he said it's a risky surgery to remove it all. I'm having testing done now. He thinks I have a uretha sling and not a full bladder mesh. I will wait to see what the tests show. He said immune disorder is very rare to occur but I feel so horrid and have had every test and supplements and diets nothing works. I see where just like Breast Implants these mesh can cause illness. This Dr said he had one woman with immune issues and got instantly better after the removal. Again he said some of it was left in because it's wrapped around the pelvic bone and risky to remove. Dammit.

    I was one of the youngest to have the mesh here in the United States at 32 years old. I had it due to sexual abuse and martial rape. Total pelvic floor prolapse.
    I am disabled as a result and made fun of because I can no longer work and worry about my body rejecting the material or it embedding into my organs
