Every time I watch your videos I always end up buying more books and end up reading three at the same time because I get too excited 😂 love your content ❤ xx

That green shirt with the dark red lipstick looks gorgeous on you! Unethical social workers/therapists/psychologists in thrillers annoy me so much as someone in the field myself, so I'll definitely be avoiding The Unraveling.

Thank you! I can’t stand that it’s become such a thriller cliche also. Dumb women and unethical therapists. Make it stop!

That was my first Dennis Cooper book and I liked it a lot! Have you read Frisk? I read it right after and although I didn’t like it as much, it was good too. Very similar vibe. I hadn’t realised it was part of a series before watching this video so I’ll be reading the rest too, thank you! 🩷

I haven’t! I want to give it a try. Closer didn’t really do much for me so I was iffy on continuing but I am curious now after loving this one so much

The unraveling looks like a ya romance book if you judge it by the cover😅

July was meh for me too.
    12 books 4174 pages avg rating 3.58☆
-Between Two Fires by Christopher Buehlman was good with a fair bit of body horror, but a bit too long and I hear his newer stuff is better.
-Wolf Winter by Cecilia Ekbäck was a good historical with psychological and horror elements.
-Karmilla by Luna Fury was my fav, its mt fav smut author retelling my fav classic vampire story (Carmilla by J.S. leFanu).
Fun fact "First Blood" by David Morrell is the book Rambo is from, it's actually a pretty good story about ptsd, p*lice harrassment, and ppl who fall through societys cracks. Hollywood turned it into an action franchise.

I love The Bell Jar, but I also agree that diary entries would have worked. Really really well here

I read The Bell Jar back in June. I really like your summary and review. I think I enjoyed it more than you did. I understand the criticism about the choppy narrative and the slow pacing at the start. For me they both seemed really intentional. The section in New York felt like Plath’s riff on Catcher in the Rye. The narrative being so erratic drew me into the erratic thoughts of Esther, and actually Plath herself.
I think if the book had been longer both elements would’ve annoyed me a lot more but because the book was pretty short it was easier to forgive. I went with 4 stars.
Great video and some new stuff for my TBR. 😁

I know I'm always throwing book recommendations at you, but no one else I know read "unhinged women" books! Anyways, How to be Eaten by (can't remember) was amazing. It's a lit fiction, but it's like final girls support group, but modern Grimm's fairy tale characters. I don't know how else to explain it, but it was definitely unique.

Aside from The sluts, the only other book I've read by Dennis Cooper is The Marbled Swarm and is very messed up in classic Dennis Cooper fashion, but it's also very weirdly written (the reason for this is actually explained by the main character), it can be tiresome at times so I'm not quite sure if it'll be to your liking but you could check it out if you're interested in more of his works

have you seen "the thing"? it's a sci-fi horror movie. 10/10.
the book it's made from is called "who goes there? ".
i found "the things" from Peter Watts.... it tells the same story but from perspective of the thing..... it's super creepy!!!! 😱
it really reads like what you'd expect the thoughts of a truly alien creature with both intelligence and hostility engraved in every single of its cells would be like. thoughts of a strange creature. 10/10 for the creativity alone.

I recommend “Blue Nights” by Joan Didion it’s kinda a sequel to The Year of Magical Thinking. It follows the death of her daughter. I also like books about death and grief unless it’s a Rebecca Serle book 😂❤️‍🩹
