My late wife watched JH open for Bon Jovi in the early 90s and she had no idea who he was at the time. She was blown away by Jeff's set and could not remember anything Bon Jovi did when she walked to her car. Years later she would always say, "Bon Jovi should have opened up for Jeff Healey." RIP Jeff and my wife.
love that man,!!! , God it breaks my heart,,, Jeff was a father, husband, son, & greatest blues musician, guitarist, , singer, Canada ever had, !!! God Bless his wonderful soul, , ,
Great post! So blessed to have seen him a year before he passed away. He was playing at a Jazz festival/concert in Toronto.... he was playing the trumpet!!!! He was a very talented and versatile musician, and he had such an amazing sense of humour. Sadly, sadly, missed. +
i was fortunate enough to have met him and almost asked him if we could jam, but this was between sets and I didn't want to impose myself. He is dearly missed . you might call him my guitar hero.
The thrill is gone.... NO NO .... The thrill is still going on and on.... Man I love this music. Why did Jeff had to go? Maybe they needed good blues music in heaven
The thrill is not gone yet Jeff, we can still remember you vividly and through the treasure house of videos and audio recordings you left us. Musicians give us all so much, we owe them a lot for the powerful feelings they give us and bring US All Together as One. God Bless you Jeff Healey.
I saw Jeff in 1989 at the Concord Pavilion in California he open for Little Feat and he didn't want to steal the show but everybody was raving about him he came on and did The Encore with the little feet and they played for about another 30 minutes and it was awesome I was in the fourth row what a blessing yes miss him dearly God bless you Jeff
Never missed a lick, and if he ever did,(I doubt it), he had a damn good excuse....what an amazing guitarist.....Thanks Jeff, for your contribution to music that still has a special place in my life....Love Ya Man....See ya on the other side Bro!
Damn! Reminds me how much I actually enjoyed his playing and how much I'm saddened by his death. Among the best live music shows I've been to were some of his early shows before "Can you see the light" came out - small venues, enthusiastic crowd, a young and urgent Healey and band.... Sweet.
I still remember when he came up at the end of the 80ies and then he played in that movie with Swayze. great were the days, when we were young, and today we still carry the society.
Loving that naughty little Layla solo right in the middle, like a very subtle hommage to Clapton Jeff should have been on the Crossroads 2010 version of this song, so sad he never lived to see it.
One of the reasons I love Jeff Healey: He actually plays the solo with the chord progression in mind. You can hear it everytime it goes to the F#7. Most of the time when people play this song including BB, they don't watch out for that slight tension and stick with the pentatonic. Jeff always puts some tension in there
"Heal my Soul" just released: 12 new tracks! Met Jeff backstage in '88 after show, Club Soda, Montreal; was the only man to meet him + scores of hot women. His bodyguard let me in after JH said: I hear a man clearing his throat, let this guy in...Great memories!
Mark Malone I was fortunate to have met him as well. Great talent and he was kind enough to give me some advice on playing guitar. You might say he was my guitar hero. He is missed to this day.
Truly amazing Jeff will alway"s be MISSED, but the WAY he PLAYED will NEVER BE DUPLICATED. JEFF WAS BRILLIANT. YOU LEFT US WAY TOO SOON. RIP MR. HEALEY.
Something magical about this version - a bar band that just nails it with a superstar in the guitar world .... B B was honored by the sincerity of this performance ....
As Patrick Swayze would say....."Not bad for a blind white boy." Man, he got that right....Jeff is at the top of the heap for me in jazz, blues, and rock .....God, how I miss him. I'm so glad he passed this way.....playing Angel Eyes for the angels now and they're diggin' it....
If you listen the first guitar chorus (PAT RUSH ° and then after JEFF 's .....you listen first to a good guitar player and then to a MUSICIAN who brings soul and surprises . And Rush never bends enough to get accurate pitch !
WOW, AWESOME....!!!! His 'timing' on guitar was tremendous, the hawaiian style really superb, and the voice...absolutely outstanding !!! F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C medley with 'Layla' at 4.00 !!! *Jeff 4 ever*
I should of gone to watch Jeff play. I live in Toronto and I never even thought about going to see him play live. DAMN IT! The best ...are often ignored by the showbizz waste "stars "
Loved your story, thank you Jeremy. Clearly both your wife and you have/had a fine ear for true musical talent over the MTV big-hair hyped "stars".
Jeremy your story brought a smile to my face. Hope you are doing ok.

I saw him at the Yale Vancouver and once sat next to him on the bus. I don't remember talking to him. I think I wanted to give him some privacy.
Well said !

Damn! Reminds me how much I actually enjoyed his playing and how much I'm saddened by his death. Among the best live music shows I've been to were some of his early shows before "Can you see the light" came out - small venues, enthusiastic crowd, a young and urgent Healey and band.... Sweet.
This Guy is AMAZING!!!!!
One of the best bluesmen ever. And I never knew he was Canadian. You guys have had more great musicians per square kilometer than almost anybody!
More than the British you think ? Im not sure... :)
+Jay Zinho No, probably not.
Mr. Wandsworth there are a fuckin lot of square clicks here in canada buddy cx but as a Canadian i appreciate that
Britain has something in their water. For such a small country the talent seems endless.
magnifique
